ABOUT GRINDING COFFEE
The proper grind gives the most flavorful cup of coffee. The grind size and amount depend on the method by which the coffee is to be brewed. By adjusting the different grind settings, you can change the grind of the coffee powder. Due to many different factors such as coffee/bean variety, room temperature, personal taste, etc., the flavor of coffee can be affected. Generally speaking, for espresso a finer grind setting is used, for filter coffee a medium grind setting, and for French press a coarser grind setting.
Coffee that is ground too fine for a particular brewing process will result in over-extraction and bitter, pungent tasting coffee. Conversely, coffee that is too coarse for will result in under-extraction and weak, watery coffee. In addition to providing a range of grind settings, coffee grinders provide a consistent grind. This is important to ensure the extraction is consistent across all of the ground coffee particles.

CUP MODE, TIME MODE AND ESPRESSO MODE
The ground amount is determined via the grinding time. The grinder stops automatically when the set total grinding time elapsed. You can adapt the grinding time as preference. For this, the appliance offers three modes of operation.
Cup mode
- Without protafilter cradle installed, the cup mode is active and the cup icon illuminates, four buttons are on light. Use this mode for grinding into the coffee powder jar.
- Defaults: 1 cup and 4s pro cup.
- The cup number (1 to 12) could be increased or decreased by pressing the adjusting buttons “+” or “-”.
- The grinding time pro cup (3s to 5s) could be adapted by holding the “SET” button for approx. 1s until the grinding time pro cup flashes on the display. Then select the desired time on the adjusting buttons “+” or “-”. By short pressing, the time goes 0.1s less or more each time, while by long pressing, the time goes continuously. The time pro cup could be memorized the last setting even after unplugged.
Note: In Cup mode, the total grinding time until automatic shut-off is determined via the number of cups multiplied by the grinding time pro cup.
For example:
- Case 1: 1 cup and 4s pro cup, when setting 2 cups, the total grinding time is 8s.
- Case 2: when setting 4.5s pro cup and 2 cups, the total grinding time is 9s. After unplugged or plugged again, the pro cup keeps 4.5s as your last setting.
Time mode
- Without protafilter cradle installed, switch to time mode by double-clicking the “SET” button. The time mode is active and the default time “10.0s” illuminates. Use this mode for grinding into the coffee powder jar.
- The time selection (1s to 60s) can be increased or decreased by pressing “+” or “-” buttons. By short pressing, the timer goes 0.1s or 1s less or more each time, while by long pressing, the timer goes continuously.
- Time selection between 1s to 15s adjusts in 0.1s increments. Time selection between 16-60s adjusts in 1s increments.
- If required, switch back to the cup mode by double-clicking the SET button.
For example: By double-clicking the “SET” BUTTON:
- Case 1: Default 10s, to decrease the time to 8s by pressing “-” button, it shows 9.9s, 9.8s, 9.7s,... 8.0s, then start grinding.
- Case 2: Default 10s, to increase the time to 17s by pressing “+” button, it shows 10.1s, 10.2s, 10.3s ... 14.9s, 15.0s, 16.0s, 17.0s, then start grinding.
Espresso mode
- You may install a provided protafilter cradle and grind directly into the protafilter.
- With the cradle installed, the espresso mode is active automatically and the espresso icon illuminates, and 3 buttons are on light.
- Default time: 8s. You may select the total grinding time (5s to 20s until shut-off) by pressing the adjusting buttons “+” or “-” for getting the desired amount. By short pressing, the timer goes 0.1s or 1s less or more each time, while by long pressing, the timer goes continuously.
- To start the grinding, push the protafilter into the machine, which activates the grinding. Push it again to stop grinding. No need to press the "start/stop” button on the display.
Tips: When you choose a very fine grind setting, it is normal for there to be a smaller amount of powder. It is recommended that users adjust the grinding time or cups to increase the powder according to needs.

[Diagram showing a portafilter with a <5mm dimension indicated]

Notes and Tips
Please note:
- When using the filter holder accessory, turn the grinding selection regulator to number 1 or 7 of the "Espresso" section.
- When using the filter holder accessory, you can only grind coffee for 1 or 2 cups of espresso. You cannot choose the number of cups.

- When using the portafilter without a Dosing Ring, to avoid coffee powder spillage, you can stop grinding by pushing the filter again, tamp the coffee powder, and then push again to resume grinding.
TIPS for Start/stop button
- Tip 1: After time or cup set, press the Start/Stop button to start grinding. Press it again to stop grinding.
- Tip 2: Under time mode, press and hold this button to activate pulse mode. The grinder will grind continuously until you release it. The grinding time range is from 0.1 to 60 seconds. Double click the SET button to exit pulse mode.
- Tip 3: Under espresso mode, keep holding this button; the display timer will count up to a maximum of 20s from 8s. When you release the button, the grinder stops grinding.
TIPS for the adjusting buttons “+” “-”
Keep holding down the buttons “+” and “-” together for approx. 2s. The display shows “OFF” indicating the press sound is off. To turn the sound back on, hold down the same buttons together. Your set sound preference will be retained even after unplugging.
