ASKO WM85 Washing Machine Installation Instructions

Model: WM85 DOMESTIC

Introduction

Dear Customer,

Read these installation instructions carefully and completely before installing the machine. Installation should be performed by a qualified person familiar with local codes and ordinances for electrical and plumbing connections. Refer to the general Safety Instructions in the Use & Care Guide.

Report any cosmetic damage to the ASKO dealer within five days of purchase. Thoroughly check the machine for cosmetic damage immediately after unpacking.

Before Using the Appliance for the First Time

Packaging

Remove all packaging. Sort materials according to local recommendations (see chapter "DISPOSAL").

Transport Protection

Before using the appliance, remove the three transport bolts and plastic plugs that protect the appliance during transport.

Step 1: Release and remove the bolts as shown in the figures. [Diagram Description: Diagrams illustrate the removal of three transport bolts and plastic plugs from the rear of the washing machine. Step 1 shows unscrewing the bolts.]

Step 2: To remove the plastic plugs holding the bolts, squeeze them and then pull them out. [Diagram Description: Step 2 shows squeezing and pulling out the plastic plugs from the bolt holes.]

Step 3: Remove the caps from the plastic plugs. Push the caps over the three holes where the plastic plugs were inserted. Save the bolts and plastic plugs for future transport of your washing machine.

If you wish to transport the washing machine, reinstall the bolts and plastic caps to lock the machine. This prevents damage from vibrations during transport. Replacements for lost transport bolts or plastic caps can be ordered from your dealer.

Installation

Read these instructions carefully and completely before installing the machine. Installation should be performed by a qualified person familiar with local codes and ordinances for electrical and plumbing connections.

Report cosmetic damage to your dealer within five days of purchase. After unpacking, thoroughly check the unit for cosmetic damage.

Adjusting the Feet

Place the washing machine so that it is stable. It is important that the machine is level to prevent excessive vibrations during spin cycles. Each foot is adjustable to level the washer on any surface. Once level, securely tighten the lock nuts on the feet.

  1. Level the washing machine horizontally and vertically by rotating the adjustable feet using a No. 32 (1.26") spanner. The feet allow levelling by +/- 1 cm (0.39").
  2. When the appropriate height is set, use wrench No. 17 (0.67") to firmly fasten the counter-nuts towards the bottom of the appliance. [Diagram Description: Diagram shows a close-up of a washing machine foot. Arrows indicate rotation for leveling. A spanner is shown engaging the lock nut.]
  3. Tighten the jam nuts (counter nuts) to the end position.

This will minimize washing machine noise.

Connecting to Water Supply

The machine must be connected to the water supply by an adequately trained person.

ASKO washers have a built-in heating element, requiring only a cold water inlet. The connection should be made by a sufficiently skilled individual. Use the hose supplied with the washer (marked for correct connection). Water pressure must be between 15-146 PSI. A valve should be fitted on the water supply pipe. If a new supply pipe is installed, it should be flushed thoroughly to remove foreign particles that might clog the fill valve filter.

[Diagram Description: Diagram shows the rear of the washing machine with numbered steps for connecting the water inlet hose. Step 1: Connect hose to water tap. Step 2: Connect hose to machine's water inlet. Step 3: Ensure the hose connection is secure and check for leaks.]

Only use the water supply hose supplied with the appliance. Do not use used or other hoses.

If the unit is installed on a second story, follow local building codes. Installation of a drip pan is recommended.

Hot Water Connection (depending on model)

After starting a program, the machine fills with hot and cold water. If hot water is unavailable, it waits one minute and fills with cold water only. The wash drum starts rotating only after filling begins. If connecting to cold water only (ECO-machine), ensure the hot water connection is shut off.

Installing the Drain Hose

The drain hose can be connected directly to a washbasin drain via a siphon. The hose should be positioned 24" to 36" (610 mm to 914 mm) above the floor. The internal hose diameter should be at least 0.71" (18 mm). [Diagram Description: Diagram shows the rear of the washing machine with the drain hose routed. It illustrates routing the hose over a sink edge or into a drain pipe, indicating a recommended height range of 24 to 36 inches (610 to 914 mm) from the floor. A close-up shows the required minimum internal diameter of the hose coupling (at least 0.71 inches or 18 mm).]]

If the hose is extended, the internal diameter of the coupling must not be less than 1/2" (12.2 mm).

Do not extend the drain hose higher than 36" (914 mm) from the bottom of the unit.

Electrical Connections

The machine is delivered with a plug and is intended for connection to an ASKO Dryer with a matching receptacle. The washer's plug can only be used with an ASKO Dryer. If used separately or with another dryer, it requires a separate 208-240 V single-phase circuit.

If used in a wet area, the supply must be protected by a residual current device.

Specifications: 208-240 V, 60 Hz, 2000 W heating element, 15 A fuse required.

Repairs and maintenance must be carried out by a qualified professional.

Connection to a permanently wired supply point must be made only by a qualified electrician.

WARNING! Certain internal parts are not grounded and may present a risk of electric shock during servicing. Service Personnel: Do not contact the Motor, Pump, or Control unit while the appliance is energized.

Grounding Instructions

This appliance must be grounded. Grounding reduces the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for electric current in case of malfunction or breakdown. The appliance has a cord with an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. Plug into an appropriate, properly installed, and grounded outlet according to all local codes and ordinances.

Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Consult a qualified electrician or serviceman if in doubt about proper grounding.

Do not modify the provided plug. If it does not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

Freestanding Installation

The washer can be placed next to the dryer. It is essential that the machine is leveled and locknuts are tightened to prevent excessive vibration during spin cycles. Leave a minimum of 1/2" (12 mm) space between the washer and the dryer.

The height adjustment range for the washer is 35 1/2" to 37 1/2" (900 mm to 950 mm). Do not raise it higher than 34 1/2" (876 mm). [Diagram Description: Diagram shows a washing machine and a dryer side-by-side. Arrows indicate minimum spacing and height adjustment range for the washer.]

Installation Clearances and Options

Clearances Around the Washing Machine

[Diagram Description: Diagram shows a washing machine from the front and side. Minimum clearances of 50 mm (2 inches) are indicated on the sides and rear.]

[Diagram Description: Diagram shows the washing machine door opening outwards to an angle of 110 degrees. Dimensions are provided: 1057 mm (41.61") height, 376 mm (14.80") width.]

Built-in Installation

ASKO washers can be installed beneath a cabinet or worktop with a height of 34" to 35" (900 to 950 mm) or in a closet. A gap of about 1/2" (12 mm) must be maintained all around the machine, including between the rear edge of the top panel and the back wall. The opening width must be at least 24 1/2" (622 mm). Ensure space is available for fill and drain hoses. [Diagram Description: Diagram illustrates dimensions for built-in installation, showing a cabinet or worktop with a height of 900 to 950 mm (35.5 to 37.5 inches). It indicates space for water and drain connections and a minimum opening width of 622 mm (24.5 inches).]]

If the drain outlet is higher than 24" (610 mm), the connections will need to be recessed.

Stacked Installation

ASKO washers should never be stacked on a counter or a dryer. However, an ASKO dryer can be stacked on an ASKO washer. Refer to your Dryer Use and Care Guide for instructions.
