GPI Control
GPI Trigger Cabling and Circuit
The recorder has a GPI socket on its rear panel. The circuit operates on less than 5V DC supplied by the port. A GPI trigger cable is needed for simple 'contact on closure' buttons.
The unit can be configured for Record/Record Pause or Play/Play Pause using GPI triggers.
SET GPI
Configure via [MENU] > SET UP > SYSTEM SET UP > SET GPI. Choose between PULSE or LEVEL trigger.
PULSE Trigger Record Process
Select an empty BIN, ensure source is connected and configured. Press and hold Record, then Play to start recording. Pressing the connected GPI button pauses recording. The next GPI press resumes recording, creating a new CLIP. Max 99 CLIPS per BIN. Press STOP to end.
LEVEL Trigger Record Process
Similar to PULSE trigger, but the GPI button press pauses for its duration. Releasing the button resumes recording. A new CLIP is created each time recording starts. Max 99 CLIPS per BIN. Press STOP to end.
A mechanical change to the GPI trigger might be needed if it operates inversely (e.g., press starts, release pauses).
Initial seconds of footage may need trimming after transfer.
PULSE Trigger Playback Process
Select a pre-recorded BIN. Press Play on the front panel. Pressing the GPI button pauses playback. The next GPI press resumes playback from that point. Press STOP to end.
LEVEL Trigger Playback Process
Similar to PULSE trigger playback, but the GPI button press pauses for its duration. Releasing the button resumes playback. Press STOP to end.
A mechanical change to the GPI trigger might be needed if it operates inversely.
Transferring Files to a Computer
Recorder File System Limitations
The recorder uses NTFS format, compatible with PCs and readable by Macs. Its advantage is one large file per recording. Some editing software may have issues with files larger than 40GB.
File Organization
Video bins appear as folders named BINxx (01-99). Each clip within a BIN folder is a file (.MXF or .MOV). Files are named BxxCnn (xx=BIN number, nn=CLIP number).
Mounting the HE-3 Drive Enclosure to a Computer
To unlock the HE-3 drive, move the lock lever to the right. Push the HE-3 into the unit, and it will pop out slightly. Gently pull the enclosure clear. Some resistance is normal during disconnection.
The HE-3 enclosure has a mini USB connector for power and data exchange. Some PCs/Laptops may require a second USB connection for sufficient power.
Safely Dismounting the HE-3 Drive from a Computer
To prevent damage, use the computer's drive dis-mounting process (e.g., 'Safely Remove Hardware' on Windows, 'Eject Drive/Hardware' on Mac) before physically removing the HE-3 drive.
