How a Rinnai Tankless Water Heater Works

When hot water is requested, cold water enters the unit, signaling the igniter. A combustion fan supplies oxygen to the burner, igniting the gas. Water passes through copper heat exchanger coils, exiting to the home's fixtures. The gas valve and blower automatically adjust to meet demand, using a smaller flame for less demand and a larger flame for greater demand, maintaining the set temperature.

When the fixture is turned off, water flow stops, and the flame diminishes. The combustion fan continues to operate briefly to exhaust combustion gases.
