Refrigeration and Cold Chain

Refrigeration is a vital industry worldwide, forming the backbone of the food supply chain and enabling the production of sensitive products like pharmaceuticals. It is also crucial for food safety and environmental preservation. Manufacturers and operators of refrigeration equipment face increasing demands for operational safety and environmental protection. Regular checks of pressure, temperature, superheating, and subcooling are essential for smooth, safe, and efficient system operation.

International standards and regulations concerning refrigerant systems are continuously updated, particularly due to the high global warming potential (GWP) of many refrigerants. This necessitates frequent testing of all components within the cold chain, including production installations, refrigeration plants, freezers, refrigerators, and refrigeration units.

Temperature and Pressure

Temperature and pressure are the most critical parameters for maintaining refrigeration systems, ensuring the proper functioning of the cooling process. Digital technology has significantly improved the adjustment of refrigeration systems and heat pumps. Digital manifolds offer high-precision temperature and pressure measurements, enabling the determination of subcooling and superheating, as well as accurate vacuum measurement for system evacuation.

These instruments allow for simultaneous checks of refrigerant circuit tightness, gas filling, differential pressure, and subcooling/superheating temperatures.

The Sauermann Si-RM350 and Si-RM450 manifolds, along with their probes and accessories, can be interconnected independently. Additional features are accessible via the Sauermann Pilot mobile application (available on iOS and Android), designed to simplify and expedite the work of HVACR professionals.

Data Logging

Data logging is essential for monitoring the operation of cooling systems over extended periods, particularly tracking temperature behavior within cold stores. It serves as the primary tool to ensure the integrity of the cold chain during storage and transportation. Recording temperature and humidity data allows for certification that the cold chain has been maintained, especially for sensitive sections like the transport of thermal-sensitive goods such as vaccines.

Given the significant health risks associated with a broken cold chain, data loggers help the food and pharmaceutical industries comply with strict quality requirements and international standards.

The KT 50 temperature data logger is suitable for recording temperatures along mobile parts of the cold chain, including transportation and storage.

Leak Detection

Refrigeration systems are vulnerable to refrigerant gas leaks, which can also be detrimental to the environment as most refrigerants are potent greenhouse gases. It is crucial to easily locate any leaks to promptly repair the affected parts of the gas circuit.

Finding gas leaks can be challenging. Professional leak detectors are vital for precisely locating even the smallest leaks in a refrigerant circuit. These detectors can identify leaks of HCFC and HFC refrigerants, R1234yf, R290, R600a, and hydrogen-nitrogen mixtures.

The Si-RD3 refrigerant gas leak detector is designed for this purpose.
