OUR SOLUTIONS PERFORM. A CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORY.

Interoperability, automated readings, customer satisfaction

Izmir Jeotermal, operating one of the world's largest geothermal district heating networks, faced challenges with diverse meter brands and incompatible radio systems, making automatic readings impossible. Manual data collection was time-consuming and prone to errors. In 2011, they adopted 2,500 units of SHARKY 775, enabling remote data reading. Today, over 30,000 SHARKY meters are installed, utilizing walk-by solution (AMR) for reliable monthly billing, customer satisfaction, and network optimization through improved flow rates and leak detection.

MARKET DRIVERS

THERMAL ENERGY METERS

EU ENERGY EFFICIENCY DIRECTIVE (EED)

The EED, introduced in December 2018, mandates new requirements for the real estate and district heating/cooling sectors to increase energy savings. Since October 25, 2020, remotely readable measuring devices are mandatory for new installations. Consumers must be informed about their consumption data at least twice a year, or four times upon request. From January 1, 2022, monthly consumption updates are required if technically feasible. By January 1, 2027, all installed measuring devices must be remotely readable. Diehl Metering's SHARKY thermal energy meters, combined with their end-consumer app, meet these EED requirements.

European regulations, such as Germany's FFVAV, also mandate remotely readable meters for district heating/cooling. Devices installed after October 5, 2021, must be remotely readable. Those installed before this date, if not remotely readable, must be retrofitted or replaced by December 31, 2026.

DISTRICT COOLING

District cooling is increasingly relevant due to growing global demand for clean cooling. Air conditioning and electric fans account for nearly 20% of global building electricity use. Without measures like switching to district cooling for energy efficiency, energy demand for space cooling is projected to triple by 2050. Metering solutions are crucial for district cooling success, enabling accurate billing, energy consumption optimization, and minimized production costs. Diehl Metering's SHARKY ultrasonic cooling meters meet strict regulatory standards and national cooling approvals, ensuring accuracy and durability in challenging environments.
