Astro A50 Wireless + Base Station Quick Start Guide
This guide provides essential information to set up and use your Astro A50 Wireless + Base Station gaming headset.
Product Overview
The Astro A50 Wireless + Base Station is a premium audio solution for gamers, offering wireless connectivity and high-quality sound. The headset features a swappable headband and ear cushions, with a microphone that can be flipped up to mute (Mic Up: Mute, Mic Down: On).
Base Station Components & Controls:
The Base Station serves as the hub for charging and connectivity. Key components and controls include:
- Mode Switch: Selects between PS4 and PC/Mac modes.
- USB Play & Charge Port: For charging the headset when not in the dock. (Note: Do not use while headset is charging in the dock).
- Optical In Port: For audio input.
- Optical Out Port: For audio output.
- AUX IN/MIC OUT: Auxiliary audio input or microphone output.
- USB Power/Audio Port: Provides power and audio connection (5.0V - 0.5A).
- Power Switch: Turns the Base Station on/off.
- Dolby ON/Source Audio: Toggles Dolby Audio processing or Source Audio Passthrough.
- EQ Button: Cycles through audio equalization presets (ASTRO, Pro, Studio).
- Volume Control: Adjusts the overall audio volume.
- USB Charge Port: Located on the back for charging the headset.
- Charge Contacts: Connects the headset to the Base Station for charging and pairing.
- Game:Voice Balance: Adjusts the mix between game audio and voice chat.

LED Indicators
Headset LED Behavior:
- Amber: Charging
- White: Power On
Base Station LED Behavior:
The Base Station features LEDs to indicate status:
- Battery Status: Indicates charge level (5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%). Low battery is indicated by a blinking red light with an audible tone; a fully charged battery is a solid red light with an audible tone.
- Mode Indicator: White light indicates PS4 mode (PS4 icon), and white light indicates PC mode (PC icon).
- Dolby: White light on headset indicates Dolby is ON. White star icon on Base Station indicates Source Audio Passthrough is ON.
- EQ Mode: White light indicates selected EQ preset (1: ASTRO, 2: Pro, 3: Studio).
Setup Instructions
Pairing and Charging
- Align the microphone with the mic slot on the headset.
- Place the headset onto the Base Station to initiate pairing and charging.
- If the battery status does not display on the Base Station, reseat the headset.
- Pairing is complete when the battery status is shown on the Base Station.
- Note: Charge the headset fully before first use.
PS4 Setup / Configuration
- Ensure the Mode Switch on the Base Station is set to PS4.
- Connect the Micro end of the Micro USB cable to the Base Station and the USB end to your PlayStation 4.
- Connect the TOSLink Optical Cable to the PS4's Optical Port and the other end to the Base Station's Optical In Port.
- The A50 Wireless Headset comes pre-paired. Charge it before use by seating it on the Base Station.
- Once connected, the Base Station will be detected as a USB device by the PS4.
- On the PS4 Dashboard, navigate to 'Settings' > 'Devices' > 'Audio Devices'.
- Set 'Input Device' to 'USB Headset (Astro A50 Voice)' and 'Output Device' to the same.
- Set 'Output to Headphones' to 'Chat Audio'.
- Go back to Settings > 'Sound and Screen' > 'Audio Output Settings'.
- Set 'Primary Output Port' to 'Digital Out (Optical)' and 'Audio Format (Priority)' to 'Bitstream (Dolby)'.
- Change the Input and Output Device in PS4 settings to 'USB Headset (ASTRO Wireless Transmitter)'.
- Press the EQ Button on the Base Station to cycle through and select your desired EQ preset.
- Your Astro A50 headset and PS4 are now set up and ready for gaming.
PC/Mac Setup / Configuration
- Ensure the Mode Switch on the Base Station is set to PC.
- Connect the Micro end of the Micro USB cable to the Base Station and the USB end to your PC or Mac.
- For PC: Navigate to your PC's Sound settings, then the 'Playback Devices' tab.
- For Mac: Navigate to System Settings > Sound > Output, and select 'Digital Out'.
- On your PC/Mac, select 'ASTRO A50 Game' and set it as the Default Device (right-click).
- Select 'ASTRO A50 Voice' and set it as the Default Communication Device (right-click).
- On your PC, navigate to Sound settings and select the 'Recording Devices' tab.
- Select 'ASTRO A50 Voice', right-click, and set it as the Default Device and Default Communication Device.
- Your Astro A50 headset and PC/Mac are now set up and ready for gaming.
