Sonar Fishfinder
For information on transducers, visit garmin.com/transducers.
Different sonar views provide insights into the fishing environment. Views vary based on the transducer and sounder module. Common views include full-screen, split-screen, split-zoom, and split-frequency.
Traditional Sonar View
Displays a large image of sonar readings. The range scale on the right shows depth. Detected objects scroll from right to left.
Key elements:
- 1: Depth information
- 2: Suspended targets or fish
- 3: Bottom of the body of water
Garmin ClearVü Sonar View
Provides a detailed picture of the fishing environment and structures. ClearVü uses narrow beams for a clearer image compared to traditional conical beams.
SideVü Sonar View
Shows what lies to the sides of the boat, useful for finding structures and fish.
- 1: Left side of the boat
- 2: Right side of the boat
- 3: Transducer on your vessel
- 4: Logs
- 5: Old tires
- 6: Trees
- 7: Water between the vessel and the bottom
- 8: Distance from the side of the boat
Split-Screen Frequency
Allows viewing two frequencies simultaneously for deeper and more detailed sonar returns.
Flasher
Shows sonar information on a circular depth scale. Flashes indicate sonar return strength.
- 1: Depth at your present location
- 2: Depth scale
Split-Zoom View
Displays a full-view graph on the right and a magnified portion on the left.
- 1: Zoomed depth scale
- 2: Zoom window
- 3: Depth range
Selecting the Transducer Type
Set the transducer type for proper sonar function. The transducer name is on the cable label.
- Select Settings > My Vessel > Transducer Type.

Sonar Frequencies
Frequency affects sonar performance. Higher frequencies offer narrow beams for high-speed operation and better bottom definition. Lower frequencies offer wider beams for detecting more targets and better deep-water penetration. CHIRP frequencies provide better target separation in deep water.
NOTICE: Be aware of local regulations regarding sonar frequencies.
To select frequencies: From a sonar view, select > Frequency. Then select a frequency.
