Sonar Fishfinder

For information on transducers, visit garmin.com/transducers.

Different sonar views provide insights into the fishing environment. Views vary based on the transducer and sounder module. Common views include full-screen, split-screen, split-zoom, and split-frequency.

Traditional Sonar View

Displays a large image of sonar readings. The range scale on the right shows depth. Detected objects scroll from right to left.

Key elements:

Garmin ClearVü Sonar View

Provides a detailed picture of the fishing environment and structures. ClearVü uses narrow beams for a clearer image compared to traditional conical beams.

SideVü Sonar View

Shows what lies to the sides of the boat, useful for finding structures and fish.

Split-Screen Frequency

Allows viewing two frequencies simultaneously for deeper and more detailed sonar returns.

Flasher

Shows sonar information on a circular depth scale. Flashes indicate sonar return strength.

Split-Zoom View

Displays a full-view graph on the right and a magnified portion on the left.

Selecting the Transducer Type

Set the transducer type for proper sonar function. The transducer name is on the cable label.

  1. Select Settings > My Vessel > Transducer Type.
  2. Select the appropriate transducer type (e.g., Dual Beam, Dual Frequency).

Sonar Frequencies

Frequency affects sonar performance. Higher frequencies offer narrow beams for high-speed operation and better bottom definition. Lower frequencies offer wider beams for detecting more targets and better deep-water penetration. CHIRP frequencies provide better target separation in deep water.

NOTICE: Be aware of local regulations regarding sonar frequencies.

To select frequencies: From a sonar view, select > Frequency. Then select a frequency.

Creating a Waypoint on the Sonar Screen Using the Device Keys

  1. From a sonar view, use the arrow keys to select a location.
  2. Select .
  3. Edit the waypoint information if necessary.

Adjusts the rate at which the sonar image moves. Faster speeds show more detail; slower speeds display information longer.

  1. From a sonar view, select > Sonar Setup > Scroll Speed.
  2. Select an option: Auto (recommended for ClearVü or SideVü), or Ultrascroll®.

Setting the Bottom Search Limit

Sets the maximum depth for auto range to search for the bottom. A lower limit acquires data faster.

  1. From a sonar screen, select > Sonar Setup > Bottom Search Limit.
  2. Select a range.

Sonar Appearance Settings

From a sonar view, select > Sonar Setup > Appearance.

Turning on the A-Scope

This feature expands recent sonar data for easier viewing.

Configuring the Appearance of Suspended Targets

Settings apply to all screens. Not available on all sonar views.

  1. From a sonar screen, select > Sonar Setup > Appearance > Fish Symbols.
  2. Select an option.

Sonar Noise Rejection Settings

From a sonar view, select > Sonar Setup > Noise Reject.

Interference: Adjusts sensitivity to reduce noise effects.

Surface Noise: Hides sonar returns near the water surface to reduce clutter. TVG (Variable Gain Control) reduces surface noise.

Overlay Number Settings

Customize data shown on the sonar screen.

From a sonar screen, select > Overlay Numbers.

Garmin Quickdraw Contours Mapping

WARNING: Garmin is not responsible for the accuracy of user-generated maps.

Create maps with contours and depth labels for any body of water.

When recording, a colored circle surrounds the vessel icon, indicating the scanned area.

Data saved depends on device memory, sonar source, and boat speed. A single-beam sonar allows longer recording times.
