Toyota Warranty Advantage: Terms and Conditions

Toyota Warranty Advantage

Terms and Conditions

This document pertains to the Toyota Warranty Advantage program, illustrated by images of a red and a grey Toyota vehicle in a vineyard setting.

This document outlines the terms and conditions for the Toyota Warranty Advantage program applicable to new Toyota vehicles first registered in Australia from 1 January 2019.

Overview

Toyota vehicles are designed and manufactured for trouble-free motoring, provided they are properly maintained, used for their intended purpose, treated with care, and equipped with Toyota Genuine Accessories. If a defect covered by the Toyota Warranty Advantage occurs, Toyota will, at its discretion, refund, repair, or replace the vehicle according to the terms and conditions specified herein.

The Toyota Warranty Advantage is supplementary to, and does not limit, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) statutory consumer guarantees. In circumstances where ACL rights exceed warranty rights, Toyota will always honour your ACL rights.

Standard Warranty Period

For new non-commercial vehicles, the standard Toyota Warranty Advantage period is 5 years with unlimited kilometres. If properly maintained, this can extend to:

Specific terms and conditions apply, as detailed in this document.

Key Features and Benefits

Keep it serviced, keep it covered

Extended coverage is available for up to 7 years with unlimited kilometres on Engine, Electric Motor, and Driveline (Hybrid, 48V & EV systems), excluding the Traction Battery, provided the vehicle is serviced and maintained according to the vehicle's Warranty and Service book.

Traction Battery and Traction System Health Check

This program allows for annual inspections to potentially extend coverage on the Traction Battery each year, up to a total of 10 years. Consult your Toyota Dealer for booking details.

We'll keep you mobile ?

If a defect covered by the Toyota Warranty Advantage renders your vehicle undriveable, towing to the nearest Toyota Dealer and a loan car are provided.

60-day money-back guarantee ?

This guarantee applies to any failure that prevents the vehicle from being driveable, or any failure that has required multiple unsuccessful repair attempts, within 60 days of vehicle collection.

Your Rights under the Statutory Consumer Guarantees ⚖️

Toyota is committed to honouring all rights under the Australian Consumer Law. These rights may, in certain situations, offer greater protection than the Toyota Warranty Advantage.

Commercial Application

For vehicles used for commercial purposes (e.g., taxis, hire vehicles, transport for payment, rideshare), the Toyota Warranty Advantage is limited to a maximum of 5 years or 160,000 km, whichever occurs first. This warranty excludes coverage for perforation (rust through panels) and any extended coverage mentioned elsewhere. Refer to your vehicle's Warranty and Service book for full details. Your ACL statutory consumer guarantees may still apply and may offer additional protection.

Important Notice Regarding Consumer Guarantees

Toyota goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

The Toyota Warranty Advantage or other applicable Toyota warranties do not limit your ACL statutory consumer guarantees. In situations where your ACL rights provide greater protection, Toyota will always honour those rights.

Your Responsibilities

You must operate, maintain, and care for your Toyota properly, in accordance with the instructions in your vehicle's Owner's Manual and Warranty and Service Book. Maintaining your vehicle at a Toyota Dealer ensures it is serviced by experts using Toyota Genuine Parts, keeping it in optimal condition.

To make a claim under the Toyota Warranty Advantage, contact an authorised Toyota Dealer. If your details have changed or you are the new owner, update them via the Toyota Owner's Portal: www.toyota.com.au/recalls-update-my-details or contact Toyota directly.

If your odometer is changed, ensure your Toyota Authorised Service Centre verifies the date and kilometres travelled on the form provided in your vehicle's Warranty and Service Book.

Expenses Associated with Claims

In most cases, there will be no charge for expenses related to making a claim under the Toyota Warranty Advantage. Any potential charges will be discussed with you in advance.

Where Coverage Does Not Apply

Notes

  1. The Toyota Warranty Advantage period begins on the day the Vehicle is registered by the Dealer and the customer takes delivery. For ex-demonstrator vehicles, the period commences when registered and put into service as a demonstrator. Customers are entitled to the balance of the period (except in Western Australia, where it starts from purchase date but kilometres are counted from demonstrator service start). The 60-day money-back guarantee begins on vehicle delivery.
  2. Dealers will review claims made outside the applicable Toyota Warranty Advantage period in conjunction with Toyota Australia.
  3. Toyota genuine parts/accessories fitted by a Toyota Dealer are warranted for the remainder of the Toyota Warranty Advantage period or 2 years/unlimited kms from installation, whichever is greater. Over-the-counter parts (not fitted by a dealer) have a 2-year/unlimited kms warranty (excluding labour and fluids).
  4. If a vehicle breaks down due to a covered failure, towing to the nearest Toyota Authorised Service Centre and a loan car are provided. If Toyota reasonably determines the failure is not covered, reimbursement for towing and loan car charges may be sought.
  5. 5a: The Traction Battery coverage period includes the standard 5-year/unlimited kms warranty plus an additional extension of up to 5 years with an annual Traction Battery Health Check, provided operation, charging, and maintenance comply with Toyota EV Operating Instructions. This excludes Traction Battery Capacity Degradation issues, which are covered separately (see note 5b). Replacement traction batteries will have an energy capacity at least equal to the original, considering age and mileage. Measurement methods for capacity and repair/replacement decisions are at Toyota's discretion. Exclusions include Commercial Use Vehicles (160,000 km limit) and the Auxiliary Battery (12 volt).
  6. 5b: For Electric Vehicles only, Traction Battery Capacity Degradation is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km (whichever occurs first). The traction battery will be repaired or replaced if its energy storage capacity falls below 70% of the original capacity, provided regular Health Checks are performed according to Toyota specifications, and operation/charging/maintenance comply with EV Operating Instructions. Measurement, repair, and replacement methods are at Toyota's discretion. Driving range is an imperfect measure of capacity.
