ABB CM-EFS.2 Voltage Monitoring Relay for Single-Phase AC/DC Voltages

Introduction

The ABB CM-EFS.2 is a compact voltage monitoring relay designed for single-phase AC/DC systems. Part of ABB's CM range, it offers a wide selection of powerful and compact devices, all featuring a narrow 22.5 mm (0.89 in) width. This series provides voltage monitoring for over- and undervoltage protection across a range of 3 V to 600 V. Leveraging ABB's extensive experience, the CM range ensures high safety and reliability for electric installations.

Functions and Operating Controls

The relay features several controls and indicators on its front panel:

Application and Operating Mode

The CM-EFS.2 relay is used for simultaneous monitoring of overvoltages (>U) and undervoltages (<U) in single-phase AC/DC systems. The output contacts can be configured as 1x2 c/o (common signal) or 2x1 c/o (separate signals for >U and <U). The operating principle can be set to open-circuit or closed-circuit, and an adjustable ON- or OFF-delay is available. A latching function can also be configured.

The unit is adjusted using potentiometers and DIP switches. Four measuring ranges are available: 3-30 V, 6-60 V, 30-300 V, and 60-600 V. The threshold values for overvoltage and undervoltage, as well as the tripping delay [TV], are adjustable. The hysteresis is fixed at 5%.

Function Diagrams (Textual Description)

Open-circuit principle, ON-delayed, without latching

When the measured voltage is within the normal operating range (between the [undervoltage threshold] <U and the [overvoltage threshold] >U, considering 5% hysteresis), the [green LED] indicates control supply is active, and the output relays are de-energized. If the measured voltage exceeds the [overvoltage threshold] (>U) or drops below the [undervoltage threshold] (<U), the [red LED] indicates the fault (glowing for overvoltage, flashing for undervoltage), and the [tripping delay TV] begins. Once the [tripping delay TV] is complete, if the voltage remains outside the normal range (adjusted by hysteresis), the output relays energize, and the [yellow LED] glows. If the measured voltage returns within the normal range (within hysteresis), the output relays de-energize, and both the [red LED] and [yellow LED] turn off. If the supply voltage is interrupted, the [green LED] turns off.

Open-circuit principle, OFF-delayed, without latching

When the measured voltage is within the normal operating range, the [green LED] is ON, and the output relays are de-energized. If the measured voltage exceeds the [overvoltage threshold] (>U) or drops below the [undervoltage threshold] (<U), the output relays energize, the [yellow LED] glows, and the [red LED] glows (overvoltage) or flashes (undervoltage). After the [tripping delay TV], if the voltage returns within the normal range (considering hysteresis), the output relays de-energize, and the [yellow LED] turns off. If the supply voltage is interrupted, the [green LED] turns off.

Open-circuit principle, ON-delayed, with latching

When the measured voltage is within the normal range, the [green LED] is ON, and output relays are de-energized. If voltage exceeds >U or drops below <U, the [red LED] indicates the fault, and the [tripping delay TV] starts. After [tripping delay TV], if voltage remains out of range (with hysteresis), output relays energize, and the [yellow LED] flashes. If voltage returns within range (with hysteresis), the [red LED] turns off, but the output relays remain energized (latching). If supply voltage is interrupted (reset), output relays de-energize, and the [yellow] and [green LEDs] turn off.

Open-circuit principle, OFF-delayed, with latching

When the measured voltage is within the normal range, the [green LED] is ON, and output relays are de-energized. If voltage exceeds >U or drops below <U, the output relays energize, the [yellow LED] flashes, and the [red LED] glows (overvoltage) or flashes (undervoltage). After the [tripping delay TV], if voltage returns within range (with hysteresis), the [red LED] turns off, and the output relays remain energized (latching). If supply voltage is interrupted (reset), the output relays de-energize, and the [yellow] and [green LEDs] turn off.

Closed-circuit principle, ON-delayed, without latching

When supply voltage is applied, the output relays energize, and the [green] and [yellow LEDs] glow. If the measured voltage exceeds >U or drops below <U, the [red LED] indicates the fault, and the [tripping delay TV] starts. After [tripping delay TV], if voltage remains out of range (with hysteresis), the output relays de-energize, and the [yellow LED] turns off. If voltage returns within range (with hysteresis), the output relays re-energize, the [yellow LED] glows, and the [red LED] turns off. If supply voltage is interrupted, the output relays de-energize, and the [yellow] and [green LEDs] turn off.

If voltage returns within range (with hysteresis), the [red LED] turns off, and the output relays remain de-energized (latching). If supply voltage is interrupted (reset), the [yellow] and [green LEDs] turn off, and the output relays re-energize upon re-application of supply voltage.
