Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
The ironing board cover becomes wet or there are water droplets on the garment during ironing. Steam has condensed on the ironing board cover after a long ironing session.
You have an ironing board cover not designed for high steam output.
Replace the ironing board cover if the foam material has worn out. Add an extra layer of felt material under the ironing board cover to prevent condensation. Felt can be purchased at a fabric shop.
Water droplets come out of the soleplate. The steam in the hose has cooled down and condensed into water. Steam away from the garment for a few seconds.
Steam and/or water come out from under the EASY DE-CALC knob. The EASY DE-CALC knob is not tightened properly.
The rubber sealing ring of the EASY DE-CALC knob is worn.
Switch off the appliance, let it cool for 2 hours, unscrew and properly retighten the EASY DE-CALC knob. If the problem persists, contact an authorized Philips service center for a replacement knob.
Dirty water and impurities come out of the soleplate or the soleplate is dirty. Impurities or chemicals in the water have deposited in the steam vents and/or on the soleplate.
Too much scale and minerals have accumulated inside the appliance.
Clean the soleplate with a damp cloth. Descale the appliance regularly as per the 'Descaling appliance' chapter.
The iron leaves a shine or an imprint on the garment. The surface being ironed was uneven, such as ironing over a seam or fold. PerfectCare is safe on all garments. Shine/imprints are not permanent and will wash out. Avoid ironing over seams or folds, or place a cotton cloth over the area to prevent imprints.
The appliance does not produce any steam. There is not enough water in the tank (water tank empty light flashes).
The appliance is not hot enough to produce steam.
You did not press the steam trigger.
The water tank is not placed properly.
Automatic steam or speed mode is off.
Fill the water tank. Wait until the 'iron ready' light is continuously lit. Press and hold the steam trigger while ironing. Slide the water tank back in firmly. Ensure the desired mode's indicator light is on.
The appliance has switched off. The on/off button light flashes. The auto-off function is activated automatically after more than 10 minutes of inactivity. Press the power on/off button to switch the appliance on again.
The appliance produces a pumping sound and/or a metallic rattling sound. This is caused by water being pumped into the boiler. This is normal and more frequent in Speed and Auto modes. If the pumping sound is continuous and excessive, switch off the appliance, unplug it, and contact an authorized Philips service center.
