ResMed AirMini Patient Guide
This guide provides essential information for using your ResMed AirMini device and its companion app.
About the AirMini App
The AirMini app is designed to sync with your ResMed AirMini machine, allowing you to start and stop therapy, adjust comfort features, and monitor your sleep data. It helps you stay on track with your sleep apnea treatment journey.

Note: Read your entire AirMini user guide and this eHelp before using your machine with the AirMini app.
Indications for Use
The AirMini app is a mobile application for patients to remotely operate a prescribed compatible ResMed machine and transfer, analyze, and display usage and therapeutic information. It also allows healthcare professionals to remotely configure compatible OSA therapy devices.
Contraindications
Positive airway pressure therapy may be contraindicated in some patients with the following pre-existing conditions:
- Severe bullous lung disease
- Pneumothorax
- Pathologically low blood pressure
- Dehydration
- Cerebrospinal fluid leak, recent cranial surgery, or trauma.
Adverse Effects
Patients should report unusual chest pain, severe headache, or increased breathlessness to their prescribing physician. An acute upper respiratory tract infection may require temporary discontinuation of treatment.
Potential side effects during therapy include:
- Drying of the nose, mouth, or throat
- Nosebleed
- Bloating
- Ear or sinus discomfort
- Eye irritation
- Skin rashes.
Security Features and Updates
Built-in security features protect your smart device and data. These include:
- Quick response (QR) code for trust establishment.
- Unique keys for device pairing.
- Application-level encryption for data transmission.
- Encryption of data stored within the AirMini app.
- Server-side authentication for firmware upgrades.
ResMed recommends the following for device security:
- Enable personal identification number (PIN) or fingerprint security on your smart device.
- Avoid unsafe modification of your smart device's operating system.
- Consider enabling remote data wipe for lost or stolen devices.
- Keep your operating system up to date with security patches.
Software and Firmware Updates
To ensure optimal performance, install the latest software and firmware versions. You will be notified in the app when updates are available.
To install a firmware update:
- Tap 'Update' to begin. An active internet connection is required.
- Choose to install immediately or later.
- Keep the AirMini app open and your smart device nearby during the update.
- Tap 'Continue' upon completion.
Note: Required software updates must be installed to continue using the AirMini app.
Connecting Your Machine and Smart Device
System Requirements
Refer to ResMed.com/AirMiniApp for compatible smart devices. iOS operating system version 9.3.5 (minimum) is required.
Connecting Process
- Ensure the AirMini machine is set up and plugged in.
- On your smart device, enable Bluetooth.
- Open the AirMini app. You will be prompted for consent regarding analytics, terms of use, and data upload.
- Once selections are complete, tap 'Continue'.
- On the AirMini machine, press the [Bluetooth icon] button. The light will flash blue when enabled.
- On your smart device, tap 'Connect'.
- Select your AirMini machine from the list.
- Perform the authentication procedure by entering the four-digit key from the back of your machine or scanning the [QR Code] using your device's camera.
- Tap 'Done'. A Bluetooth connection icon will appear in the app.
Notes:
- The machine is in standby mode when plugged in.
- Keeping Bluetooth enabled on your smart device allows automatic connection when in range.
- Data sent via Bluetooth is encrypted.
- Pair your smart device with only one machine at a time.
Guided Equipment Setup
Use the interactive setup feature in the app to configure your equipment. Not all masks are available in all regions.
- Tap 'Get started'.
- Select your mask type and model.
- Tap 'Continue'.
- Connect the air tube to the AirMini.
- Tap 'Next'.
- If using specific masks (N20, AirFit P10, AirFit N30), insert HumidX™ or HumidX Plus for humidification. For F20 series masks, use HumidX F20.
- Tap 'Next' after inserting the humidifier.
- Fit your mask.
- Tap 'Next'.
- If using N20, F20, or F30 series masks, connect the tube assembly to the mask.
- Tap 'Next'.
After setup, you can choose 'Let's Go!' for Test Drive or 'No Thanks' to view the Dashboard.
Test Drive
Test Drive allows you to experience different therapy pressures and check your mask seal. Bluetooth connection to the AirMini device is required.
- Tap 'Start air'. The device begins at 4cm H₂O. Adjust your mask as needed.
- Tap 'Continue'. You can exit by tapping 'Stop air'.
- Tap 'Check mask seal'. If adjustment is needed, tap 'Need Help?' for troubleshooting.
- Tap 'Increase air pressure' to reach 7cm H₂O.
- Tap 'Increase air pressure' again to reach 10cm H₂O.
- Tap 'Finish' or 'Stop Air' to complete.
Notes:
- Tap 'X' to quit Test Drive at any time.
- Test Drive has a 3-minute limit.
- You can also access Test Drive from the 'More' menu.
Using the App for Therapy
Mask Fit and Therapy Sections
The Sleep screen has 'Mask Fit' and 'Therapy' sections. Use 'Mask Fit' to check for air leaks and 'Therapy' for comfort settings.
Checking Mask Fit
- Fit your mask as per the user guide.
- Tap 'Sleep' in the Navigation tab.
- Tap 'Mask Fit'.
- Tap 'START Mask Fit'. The machine blows air.
- Adjust mask, cushion, and headgear for a good seal.
- Tap 'STOP Mask Fit' to finish.
If a good mask seal cannot be achieved, consult your provider.
Starting Therapy
- Ensure the machine is set up and powered on.
- Confirm Bluetooth connection is active.
- Fit your mask.
- Tap 'Sleep' in the Navigation tab.
- Tap 'Therapy'.
- If SmartStart™ is on, breathe normally to start. Otherwise, tap 'START'.
Stopping Therapy
If SmartStop is enabled, removing your mask automatically stops therapy. Otherwise, tap 'STOP'.
Changing Comfort Features
Adjust comfort features like Ramp Time, Pressure Relief, SmartStart, and SmartStop on the Sleep options screen.
Note: Pressure Relief must be enabled by your provider.
Ramp Time
Ramp Time gradually increases pressure from a lower start to the prescribed treatment pressure. Settings include Off, 5-45 minutes, or Auto (detects sleep). To adjust:
- Tap 'Sleep' > 'Therapy' > 'Options'.
- Tap the current ramp setting.
- Select your preferred setting.
- Tap 'OK'.
Note: Settings cannot be adjusted during an active therapy session. Stop therapy first.
Pressure Relief
Pressure Relief makes exhaling easier. To switch on/off:
- Tap 'Sleep' > 'Therapy' > 'Options'.
- Use the toggle switch to enable or disable Pressure Relief.
SmartStart
SmartStart automatically begins therapy when you breathe into your mask. To switch on/off:
- Tap 'Sleep' > 'Therapy' > 'Options'.
- Use the toggle switch for SmartStart.
SmartStop
SmartStop automatically stops therapy after a few seconds when you remove your mask. To switch on/off:
- Tap 'Sleep' > 'Therapy' > 'Options'.
- Use the toggle switch for SmartStop.
More Menu
Access the AirMini App User Guide, AirMini Machine User Guide, support website, Equipment setup, and Test Drive. You can also upload sleep data to the cloud.
Notes:
- AirMini must be Bluetooth connected with an active internet connection on the smart device.
- Only data not previously sent will be uploaded.
- To re-upload all data, uninstall/re-install the app, connect via Bluetooth, and upload.
Dashboard Overview
The Dashboard provides a snapshot of your therapy data. Synchronize the AirMini to the app to view recent data.
- myAir score (100 points): Analyzes usage hours, mask seal, events per hour, and mask on/off events for a total sleep score. Higher is better. Access previous scores via the date selector.
- Usage hours (70 points): Displays hours of therapy received. More hours yield more points (up to 70).
- Mask seal (20 points): Assesses mask seal quality. Points awarded for minimal leak (20), moderate leak (10-15), or higher leak (0-10). Refit mask if score is low.
- Events per hour (5 points): Average of apneas and hypopneas per hour.
- Mask on/off events (5 points): Number of times mask was removed. Fewer removals yield more points.
- Pressure: Displays pressure delivered, indicating treatment effectiveness.
About AirMini Screen
Provides information on Total usage hours, Firmware version, and Last synced time.
Traveling
Take your AirMini machine with you. Ensure you have the appropriate power adapter for your region. Contact your provider for adapter purchasing information.
Traveling by Airplane
Medical equipment policies vary by airline. The AirMini meets Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements for air travel. Air travel compliance letters are available at www.resmed.com.
When using the AirMini on an airplane:
- While powered, disable Bluetooth by pressing and holding the [Bluetooth button] for at least ten seconds until the indicator light is white.
- Do not use the AirMini app.
- Use the [Start/Stop button] on your machine to start therapy.
- To reconnect Bluetooth or exit airplane mode, press the [Bluetooth button].
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues, consult these suggestions. If problems persist, contact your ResMed dealer or office. Do not open the AirMini machine.
Problem/Possible Cause | Solution |
---|---|
Cannot establish Bluetooth connection. Bluetooth may be disabled. | Check smart device and AirMini machine for Bluetooth status. Ensure the AirMini's Bluetooth indicator light flashes blue [Bluetooth icon]. Reconnect and pair devices. Restart smart device if needed. You can still start therapy using the machine's [Start/Stop button]. |
Bluetooth connection may be poor. | Ensure AirMini is away from interference sources (microwaves, Wi-Fi routers, cordless phones). You can still start therapy using the machine's [Start/Stop button]. |
Machine may be in airplane mode. | If a white light shows on the machine, it's in airplane mode. Press and hold the [Bluetooth button] for 3 seconds to disable it. The light should flash blue. If unable to disable, use the machine's [Start/Stop button] to start therapy. |
Bluetooth indicator light is constantly white. Cannot pair. | Press and hold the [Bluetooth button] for 3 seconds. Light should flash blue for pairing. |
Machine appears in device list but cannot connect. | Tap the device name in the list to confirm connection. |
Therapy data not transmitted. Bluetooth may be disabled. Smart device in airplane mode. | Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both devices. Reconnect and pair. Restart smart device. Turn off airplane mode on smart device. |

Air pressure seems low or not enough air. | Check if Ramp Time is enabled in the app. Wait for pressure to build or disable Ramp Time. Inspect HumidX or vent for blockages. Ensure HumidX is dry. |
Cannot start therapy. Power not connected. | Connect power supply. Ensure the green indicator light on the power supply unit is illuminated. |
Therapy has stopped. Air tubing disconnected. High mask leak with SmartStop enabled. | Ensure air tubing is connected. Press [Start/Stop button] to continue. Ensure mask fit is correct. Alternatively, disable SmartStop. |
