Getting Started: Scanning for Channels

Auto Scan or Channel Scan is a necessary process that must be run on your HDTV or converter box before you start receiving channels. Ensure you are scanning for TV Antenna (ATSC) and NOT Cable TV (QAM). Scanning for cable stations may bring up a partial or no channel list.

Follow these steps on your device:

Assembly Instructions

This section details the steps for assembling your HD1080X Xtreme Series HD Antenna.

Parts Overview

The antenna assembly includes components such as the Reflector Element, Spacers, Phasing Lines, and a Matching Transformer. The antenna boom is visible, with a Mast Clamp depicted for attaching to a mast. Bolts, hex nuts, and screws are shown as fasteners.

Step-by-Step Assembly

  1. Remove the antenna from its carton. Unfold all elements and reflectors, ensuring they are straight and perpendicular to the antenna boom.
  2. Attach the Mast Clamp assembly (consisting of a U-bolt and nut, as shown in Figure 2) to the back boom, which is the larger section of the antenna.
  3. Using the provided bolts and hex nuts, connect the smaller antenna section to the larger section. The diagram shows spacers being used between these two sections.
  4. Mount the assembled antenna onto the top of your mast. Lightly tighten the mast clamps at this stage.
  5. On the rear of the smaller antenna section, align the two phasing lines. Insert the smaller screws from the hardware bag through these lines, ensuring the screw heads face the larger antenna section. Place two washers onto each screw, followed by a nut to hold the washers in place (do not tighten fully yet). Connect the matching transformer to the downlead connection point. Slide the spade lugs of the matching transformer between the washers on the screws and tighten the hex nuts securely. With the screws now in place, connect the coaxial downlead cable to the matching transformer on the antenna, but do not secure it at this time. Finally, connect the coaxial cable to your TV.
  6. Orient the front of the antenna towards the direction of the broadcast TV stations. Once positioned correctly, securely tighten the mast clamp.
  7. Use tape to secure the coaxial downlead cable along the mast, preventing it from moving or whipping in the wind.
  8. Ensure the antenna and mast are properly grounded according to safety regulations.

Antenna Placement for Best Signal

For optimal performance, antennas rely on a clear line of sight to broadcast towers. Place the antenna where it has an unobstructed view. Obstructions like buildings or hills directly in front of the antenna will reduce signal strength more than those located further away. It is advisable to avoid placing the antenna within 3 feet of any metal objects that could interfere with reception.

Placement Tips:

Aiming Your Antenna

This antenna is designed to pick up signals from approximately 60 degrees wide out of a full 360 degrees. To achieve the best reception, aim the antenna to face the center of the group of TV stations you wish to receive.

If you encounter difficulties receiving a particular weak channel, try pointing the antenna directly at the compass heading for that station. Information on station locations and compass headings can be found on websites such as www.antennaweb.org.

The diagram illustrating aiming shows a top-down view of the antenna, indicating its directional reception pattern with a 60-degree reception angle.

Safety Warnings

WARNING: RISK OF ELECTROCUTION

Each year, individuals are injured or killed due to antennas or masts making contact with overhead power lines. Before selecting a mounting site, carefully check to ensure there is no risk of the antenna or mast touching a power line.

Always exercise caution and be aware of your surroundings when working at heights, such as on a roof. In addition to the risk of falling, the electrical shock from contacting a power line with your antenna or mast can be severe.

Grounding

Please consult your local electrical code for specific grounding requirements. Outdoor antennas should always be grounded to protect against lightning and static electricity.
