Assembling the RP301
Assembly instructions for the Roland RP301 digital piano.
General Assembly Precautions
To ensure correct assembly, please read this manual carefully before beginning. Keep this manual nearby for reference. Keep the unit horizontal when lifting it during assembly or transport. Be careful not to pinch your hands or drop the unit on your foot. Assistance from at least one additional person is required for assembly or transport. Keep small parts like screws out of reach of children to prevent accidental swallowing. A Phillips screwdriver is required but not included. Initially tighten screws loosely, then tighten them fully. Do not use a power screwdriver for final tightening to avoid stripping threads. Tighten screws firmly and place the unit on a level, stable surface. Never place the unit on shag carpet, as the pedal may become unstable and cause damage. Do not place the piano body directly on the floor, as this can damage jacks, holders, and the bottom panel case.

1. Stand Assembly
At first, assemble the entire stand temporarily without fully tightening screws. Check overall alignment and gently shift parts as needed before final tightening. Spread a blanket or similar material to protect the stand or floor from scratches. Be careful not to pinch the pedal cord during assembly.
Step 1: Attach Side Boards to Pedal Board
Place the left and right side boards onto the pedal board. Ensure the metal brackets are on the inside. Fasten them provisionally using screws C (5 x 40 mm).
When attaching the pedal board, ensure there is no gap between the side board and pedal board.
Step 2: Hand-tighten and Secure Screws
Hand-tighten screws C in four locations. Then, use a [Phillips screwdriver] to tighten them securely.
Step 3: Position Side Boards Upright
With the help of another person, raise the left and right side boards to an upright position. Take care that the pedal boards are not twisted.
Step 4: Align Rear Board
Place the rear board as shown. Adjust the screw holes of the rear board and the pedal board for alignment. If the rear board is difficult to insert, loosen screws C to ease positioning.
The RP301-RW model has a simulated rose wood finish; ensure the wood grain faces forwards.
Step 5: Attach Rear Board to Side Boards
Attach the rear board to the metal parts on the side boards from the front using screws A (4 x 14 mm). Press each upper portion of both side boards for clamping the rear board.
Step 6: Fasten Rear Board to Pedal Board
Fasten the rear board to the pedal board from the back using screws B (4 x 20 mm).
Step 7: Final Tightening and Alignment
Go around and tighten all screws. Simultaneously, correct the orientation of any piece as needed until everything fits together properly. Before tightening screws for the rear board, adjust all screw points to ensure the rear board is parallel with the pedal board.
2. Assembling the Piano
Step 1: Attach Piano to Stand
Align the screws on the bottom of the piano (one at the left and one at the right) with the metal brackets on the side boards. While keeping the front of the piano slightly raised, pull it toward yourself to engage the screws in the metal brackets.
When handling the piano, grasp it firmly. Be careful not to get your fingers pinched.
Step 2: Secure Piano to Stand
Fasten the piano to the stand using screw D (5 x 20 mm).
Step 3: Attach Music Rest
Loosen the music rest screws slightly (2-3 mm). Insert the music rest brackets between the screws and the piano body. Turn the screws to secure the music rest, using one hand to support it during this process.
Ensure the music rest is firmly inserted all the way toward the back. Support it with your hand to prevent it from falling and avoid pinching your hand. Do not apply excessive force. To remove, loosen screws while supporting the rest, detach it, and retighten screws.
Step 4: Connect Power and Pedal Cords
Connect the AC adaptor to the DC In jack on the back of the piano. Connect the pedal cord to the Pedal connector. Use the coated clip on the bottom of the piano to fasten the power cord and pedal cord as needed.
Step 5: Attach Headphone Hook
Use screws E (4 x 16 mm) to fasten the headphone hook.
Step 6: Connect AC Adaptor and Power Cord
Connect the supplied AC adaptor and power cord to an AC outlet. Place the AC adaptor with the indicator side facing upwards and the textual information side facing downwards. The indicator will light when plugged in.
Step 7: Adjust the Adjuster
Turn the adjuster to lower it until it makes firm contact with the floor. This is especially important when the piano is on carpet, to ensure the adjuster presses firmly against the floor.
The pedal may be damaged if there is a gap between the adjuster and the floor.
About Ground Terminal
In certain setups, you might experience a slight static sensation or a gritty feel when touching the device. This is due to an infinitesimal, harmless electrical charge. If concerned, connect the ground terminal (refer to figure) to an external ground. Grounding may introduce a slight hum depending on your installation. For connection methods, consult a Roland Service Center or an authorized Roland distributor.
The terminal block includes jacks for MIDI Out, MIDI In, DC In, Output, and Mono, along with a ground terminal.
Unsuitable places for connection:
- Water pipes: May result in shock or electrocution.
- Gas pipes: May result in fire or explosion.
- Telephone-line ground or lightning rod: May be dangerous in the event of lightning.
When Moving the Unit
To move the unit, first detach the music rest, close the keyboard cover, disconnect the AC adaptor, and raise the stand adjuster. With at least one other person assisting, lift the unit horizontally, carrying it carefully to avoid pinching hands or dropping it on feet.
