Important Safety Information
Read this guide carefully before using the TSM4-IS.
To safely use your TSM4-IS with the Tait TP95/96 IS radio, refer to the Safety and Compliance Information (MPG-00006-xx) provided with your radio.
Intrinsically Safe Audio Accessories
Intrinsically Safe (IS) audio accessories are certified by a third party to be safe for use in particular hazardous locations or in potentially explosive atmospheres.
The TSM4-IS is approved to the following ratings:
- Class I, Division 1, Groups C, D
- Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D
- Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, G
- Class III, Division 1
- T4, Ta = -4°F to +140°F (-20°C to +60°C)
Only use the TSM4-IS with radio models: Tait TP9500 IS, Tait TP9600 IS.
Compatible radios and accessories are marked with a black diamond on an orange background.
Control drawing number is D25508.
Warnings:
- Explosion hazard! Risk of electrostatic discharge. Do not connect or remove audio accessories in hazardous locations.
- Do not engrave or modify the TSM4-IS in any way.
- Do not use the TSM4-IS if it is cracked or damaged.
- The TSM4-IS must be serviced only by an agency certified by both the approval authority and Tait International Limited. Any unauthorized repair or substitution of parts invalidates the IS rating and the third-party IS approval. To have an IS device serviced, return it to your regional Tait office.
- Substitution of components may impair intrinsic safety.
- Fitting an accessory that is not IS-approved and not compatible with TSM4-IS creates a risk of explosion which could cause serious injury or death. For an up-to-date list of approved accessories, contact your regional Tait office.
This product is not intended for permanent outdoor installation.

Recommended Wearing Position

Connect to a Radio
- Loosen the cover screw.
- Remove the cover.
- Attach the TSM4-IS connector.
- Tighten the TSM4-IS connector screw.
Transmit Audio from the TSM4-IS
- Hold the TSM4-IS 2-4 in. (5-10 cm) from your mouth.
- Press and hold the PTT button.
- Talk into the microphone.
Receive Audio on the TSM4-IS
To adjust the volume to a comfortable level, turn the volume control knob on the radio.
The connection of the TSM4-IS to the radio disables the radio speaker.
Listening at high volume can cause hearing damage. Always reduce the volume to a comfortable listening level.

Connecting an Earpiece
The TSM4-IS speaker is muted when an earpiece is connected.
- Remove the connector bung.
- Turn the volume down.
- Plug the earpiece accessory cable into the audio connector jack.

No Earpiece Connected
When you are not using an earpiece, keep the 3.5 mm connector bung inserted into the audio jack.
Seal the 3.5 mm earpiece connector with the bung.
Cleaning Procedures
- Wipe the body of the TSM4-IS with a damp sponge and diluted dishwashing liquid.
