Clearance and Weight Requirements
Clearance must be ensured according to ECE-R 55 regulations, Appendix 7, figures 25a and 25b. This involves maintaining specific minimum clearances and angles relative to the vehicle and bumper. The tow bar's towing capacity is influenced by the vehicle's maximum permissible gross weight and towing capacity, as defined by the D-Value.
General Warnings and Instructions
- National guidelines concerning the installation and approval of towing devices must be observed.
- Any alteration or conversion of the tow bar is strictly prohibited and will result in the cancellation of its type approval.
- Remove any insulation material or underbody protection from the vehicle in the areas where the tow bar makes contact.
- The tow bar is designed exclusively for towing trailers and for the use of load carriers. Any other application is forbidden.
- Parking Assist Interference: Vehicles equipped with parking assistance systems may experience malfunctions after tow bar installation. This occurs if components like the tow ball are within the sensor's detection range. Adjust the sensor's range or disable the parking assist system if necessary. Using removable or pivoting tow balls may reduce the likelihood of such interference when the ball is not in the operating position.
- The tow bar is a safety-critical component and must only be installed by qualified professionals. Incorrect installation poses a severe accident risk.
- The Swedish text in this manual is binding.
- Subject to change without notice.
Installation Steps
Step 01: Preparation
Begin by removing any necessary vehicle components, such as exhaust parts or bumper trim, as indicated by numbered points and arrows in the diagrams.
Step 02: Bumper Modification and Bracket Attachment
Prepare the vehicle's bumper by cutting a specific area according to the provided template. The template details the dimensions and the section to be removed. Attach the tow bar mounting brackets to the vehicle chassis using the specified hardware, for example, M12x1.25x35 (4x) bolts.
Step 03: Tow Bar Mounting
Mount the main tow bar frame to the vehicle's chassis, ensuring it aligns correctly with the designated mounting points. Secure it using the appropriate fasteners.
Step 04: General Assembly View
A general diagram illustrates the assembled tow bar fitted to the vehicle.
Step 05: Tightening Fasteners
Securely tighten all relevant bolts, such as M12x40, to the specified torque of 83 Nm. Ensure all connections are firm and properly torqued.
Step 06: Final Checks and Usage Notes
Perform final checks to ensure all components are securely fastened and that sufficient clearance is maintained. For example, check clearances are greater than 49mm and less than 49mm in specified areas. Note that the typical installation time is approximately 90 minutes. Observe load limits, such as the 18kg limit for certain components.
Cutting Template Details
A template is provided for modifying the vehicle's bumper. It outlines the precise area to be cut away, with key dimensions including a height of 79mm, a top width of 13.5mm, a maximum width of 28mm, and specific distances from the bottom edge of the bumper (27.5mm and 55mm).
Important Note: Variations in car models can occur without prior notification. It is crucial to carefully check that this template is the correct one for your specific car model and the installed tow bar.
