ReaderPen Functions
ReaderPen operates as a stand-alone product, requiring no connection to other devices for basic functionality.
Talking Menu
An audio navigation feature. When enabled, all menu items are read aloud, assisting users, particularly those with visual impairments.
Text Reader
An assistive reading function. Scan words, lines, or paragraphs to have them read aloud. The ReaderPen can be configured for automatic reading upon scanning or manual reading via the OK button. Audio can be played through the built-in speaker or earphones. You can re-read text as many times as needed by using the navigation buttons to select a starting point and pressing OK. Pressing and holding the OK button on a selected word zooms in and reads it aloud.
Scan to File
Capture and save notes from books or papers as text files in the ReaderPen's internal memory. These files can be uploaded to a computer via USB. Using the Connect Desktop app allows for sharing, editing, and re-downloading files. Text files can be opened, edited, and saved directly on the pen. You can also have text files read aloud using the Text Reader function. Files can be renamed via the 'Open file' option.
Definitions
Access built-in monolingual dictionaries to look up words. Select the function, scan a word, and use navigation buttons to find its definition. Definitions can be read aloud by the pen. This feature can also be accessed directly from the Text Reader mode if a difficult word is encountered.
USB Connectivity
When connected to a computer, ReaderPen offers additional modes:
- U-Disk: Connects as a portable disk to access/download text files, import usage statistics, or use as a storage drive.
- Keyboard: Acts as a keyboard, inputting scanned text directly into any text field on the computer. Ensure the computer's keyboard language matches the ReaderPen's.
- Charge: Allows the device to charge while functioning in stand-alone mode.
How to Scan
For optimal scanning, hold the pen almost straight up, ensuring the text line is centered between the two white nibs at the front. Make sure only the Scan Trigger is pressed during scanning. The pen scans one line of text at a time. Scanning start and stop points align with the edge of the transparent window.
When the Scan Trigger touches paper, the scan light activates. Move the pen smoothly along the text line at a steady pace, avoiding stops or rotation, keeping the text within the nibs. The Left/Right hand setting is important for accurate scanning, but you can scan from left-to-right or right-to-left.
Example scans:
Scan this line from left to right.
Scan this line from right to left.
