Pack Contents
Please ensure the following items are included in your pack:
- 1 VDO computer
- 1 battery for the computer
- 1 universal handlebar bracket with cable and sensor
- 1 spoke magnet (clip magnet)
- Cable ties for attaching the bracket and the sensor

Display
The VDO M1 WR features a large, easy-to-read display divided into three areas:
- Top line: Displays the value for the selected function.
- Middle line: Shows "am" or "pm" for 12-hour clock format, and indicates km/h or mph for speed.
- Bottom line: Displays the name of the selected function in clear text.
Only one function is displayed at a time. To return to the speed indicator from another function (e.g., ride time), press the SET button. The settings can also configure the speed indicator to automatically display after five seconds from other functions.
Buttons
The VDO M1 WR has two buttons:
- BIKE Button:
- In function mode: Accesses functions, resets trip data to zero (press and hold).
- In setting mode: Scrolls through the setting menu, changes data to be set.
- SET Button:
- In function mode: Returns to the speed indicator from any display function, opens the setting mode (press and hold).
- In setting mode: Opens a setting, confirms the setting, exits setting mode and returns to function mode.
Functions
The VDO M1 WR offers the following functions:
- Current Speed: With a wheel circumference of 2,155 mm, the maximum speed is 199 km/h or 124 mph.
- Current Distance: Counts up to 999.99 km or miles. Resets to zero if this maximum is exceeded.
- Current Ride Time: Counts up to 99:59:59 HH:MM:SS. Resets to zero if this value is exceeded.
- Current Time: Available in 24-hour or 12-hour format.
- Total Distance: Cumulative value for all trips, counts up to 99,999 km or miles. Resets to zero if exceeded. Switching units from miles to km may reset the counter if the converted result exceeds 100,000 km.
Operation While Cycling
While cycling, press the BIKE button to cycle through display functions. Only one function is shown at a time. Press the SET button to return to the speed indicator. The settings can enable automatic return to speed display after a few seconds.
Sleep Mode
If the computer is in the bracket and inactive for five minutes, it enters sleep mode. When you start cycling again, the VDO M1 features an auto-start function, instantly returning to function mode and displaying the current speed.
Attaching the Bracket and Sensor
Step 1: Place the rubber shim under the sensor. Attach the sensor to the fork side corresponding to your preferred handlebar attachment side (left or right) using the supplied cable ties (loosely at first). Ensure the sensor mark points towards the spokes. The sensor can be fitted to the front, inside, or back of the fork depending on space.
Step 2: Attach the spoke magnet to an outside spoke. The rod-shaped magnet core with the VDO logo should point towards the sensor. Align the magnet with the sensor marking at a distance of approximately 1-5 mm.
Step 3: Align the sensor and magnet in their final positions and fasten them with cable ties, pulling them tight and pushing the magnet in firmly.
Step 4: Route the cable along the fork to the fork bridge, then along the brake line to the handlebars.
Step 5: To choose between handlebar or stem attachment, rotate the base of the handlebar bracket by 90°. Undo the screws, remove the foot, rotate it 90°, and re-insert and tighten the screws. Do not overtighten.
Step 6: Guide cable ties through the bracket slot, around the handlebars or stem, and pull them (not too tight yet).
Step 7: For handlebar attachment, align the computer angle for optimal readability. Pull the cable ties tight and snip off any protruding ends.
A video guide is available at www.vdocyclecomputing.com/service.
Inserting the Computer into the Bracket
The VDO twist-click system securely connects the computer to the handlebar bracket.
How to insert:
- Place the computer into the bracket at a 10 o'clock position.
- Rotate the computer to the right into the 12 o'clock position and click it into place. A noticeable resistance indicates it is secured.
To remove: Rotate the computer to the left without pushing or pulling. (Memory aid: Rigid to the Right, Loose to the Left).

Replacing the Battery in the Computer
For optimal functionality, it is recommended to replace the battery annually. Your settings, total distance, and ride time information are stored and not lost during battery replacement.
You will need: A 3V 2032 battery (Sony, Panasonic, Varta, or Duracell recommended).
Procedure:
- Step 1: Use a coin to remove the battery compartment cover.
- Step 2: Remove the old battery. Wait 10 seconds before inserting the new battery to allow the electronics to recognize the change.
- Step 3: Insert the new battery with the +pole facing up, ensuring it is not tilted. Make sure the rubber seal lies smoothly on the compartment lid.
- Step 4: Insert the battery compartment cover and turn it clockwise with a coin until it locks.
