Studer xcom 485i-nx Quick Guide
Communication Module for nx System with Vario Solar Charger
Brand: STUDER [plus symbol]
Introduction
This document provides a quick guide to the Studer xcom 485i-nx, a communication module designed for integration with the nx system and vario solar chargers. It covers essential connection and termination information.
The module itself is depicted with two connection ports at the top and two at the bottom, labeled 'xcom 485i-nx' and indicating an 'nx' bus connection.
Connection Diagram
The connection setup involves linking a 'vt / vs' device to the 'xcom 485i-nx' communication module using a maximum 2-meter RJ45 cable (Studer Reference: 108322). The 'xcom 485i-nx' module is then connected to an 'Inverter' using a maximum 3-meter RJ45 cable (Studer Reference: 119014).
Inverter Connection Details:
Port | RJ45 Pin | Function | Wire Color |
---|---|---|---|
nx1 | 4 | GND | (Blue) |
2 | RS-RX or D- | (Orange) | |
3 | RS-TX or D+ | (White/Green) | |
nx3 | 4 | GND | (Blue) |
2 | D- | (Orange) | |
3 | D+ | (White/Green) |
Termination Configurations
Proper termination is crucial for reliable communication. The following diagrams illustrate correct ('OK') and incorrect ('NOT OK') termination configurations for communication chains.
OK Scenario 1: RS485 MODBUS
A Studer CAN xtender is connected to solar panels ☀️. This is then connected to the 'xcom 485i-nx' module, which in turn connects to a device using RS485 MODBUS protocol. A battery ? is also shown connected. This configuration is marked as OK ✔️.
OK Scenario 2: nx Bus
A Studer CAN xtender is connected to solar panels ☀️. This is then connected to the 'xcom 485i-nx' module, which connects to an 'nx1' device. The 'nx1' device is part of an 'nx bus' network. A battery ? is also shown connected. This configuration is marked as OK ✔️.
NOT OK Scenario: nx Bus Termination
This diagram shows an incorrect termination for a chain involving 'nx1/nx3' devices on an 'nx bus'. This configuration is marked as NOT OK ❌. The text legend explains that proper impedance is required for chain termination. This concept is also translated as:
- FR: Impédance pour la terminaison de la chaîne.
- DE: Impedanz für Kettenabschluss.
- IT: Impedenza di terminazione della catena.
