Introduction

The SmartStick™ Extendable Shaft adjusts to your needs, allowing you to blend in tall pots and pitchers without mess. Inspired by professional kitchen tools, this Hand Blender features a powerful motor and heavy-duty blade for whipping potatoes, blending drinks, chopping vegetables, and puréeing fruits. The optional whipping disc can be used for whipped cream, mayonnaise, and egg whites.

The ergonomic handle provides a comfortable grip, enhanced by a rubberized surface for better control, especially with wet hands. Four distinct speeds offer precise control, with an ON/OFF button conveniently located on top. The cord is designed to stay out of the way.

Adding the SmartStick™ Mini Prep™ Chopper Grinder Attachment allows for preparing an entire meal. This attachment, leveraging Cuisinart's expertise in food processors, connects directly to the motor body after removing the detachable shaft.

Hand Blender Assembly

Always unplug the power cord before attaching or removing blades and attachments.

  1. Attach Blade or Whipping Disc: Hold the stem of the blade/disc. Match the raised notches on the shaft to the open slots on the stem. Slide the blade/disc onto the stem and push firmly. Press the center end of the attachment back toward the shaft to secure it.
  2. Attach Detachable Blender Shaft to Motor Control Body: Align the blender shaft with the motor body. Slide the pieces together until they click. Pressing the release button may help during assembly.

Shaft Length Adjustment

The extendable shaft can be adjusted up to 2 additional inches for blending in tall containers or for user comfort.

  1. Hold the SmartStick™ Hand Blender firmly with both hands.
  2. Rotate the Shaft Adjustment Ring counterclockwise (about a quarter turn) to loosen the shaft.
  3. Extend the shaft to the desired length by pulling the lower end. Do not pull further than the resistance point (approx. 2 inches).
  4. Rotate the Shaft Adjustment Ring clockwise to tighten the shaft. Do not overtighten.
  5. The blender is ready for use with the extended shaft.

Tips:

  • Immediately after blending, rinse the entire shaft to make cleaning easier.
  • Clean by running under a faucet or placing the shaft in the top shelf of the dishwasher.

Making the Shaft Shorter:

  1. Rotate the Shaft Adjustment Ring counterclockwise to loosen.
  2. Retract the shaft by pushing the lower end. Do not grab the blender blade.
  3. When the shaft is fully retracted, rotate the Shaft Adjustment Ring clockwise to tighten.

Diagrams illustrating shaft adjustment are present in the original document, showing the ring rotation and pulling action.

Hand Blender Operation

Keep all parts of the body away from the blending blade during operation.

  1. Plug the electrical cord into a wall socket. Ensure the wall switch is ON if applicable.
  2. Adjust Speed Setting: Rotate the Speed Setting Lever clockwise to increase speed (1=slowest, 4=fastest).
  3. Adjust Shaft Length: If needed, adjust shaft length as described on page 7.
  4. Turn ON/OFF: Press and hold the ON/OFF switch to turn the appliance ON. The blender runs as long as the switch is pressed. Release the switch to turn it OFF.
  5. Unplug immediately after use.

Helpful Hints:

  • Cut solid foods into 1/2-inch cubes for easier blending. The Chopper Grinder is recommended for chopping solid foods.
  • Pour liquid ingredients into the mixing container first, unless the recipe states otherwise.
  • To avoid splashing, do not pull the Hand Blender out of the mixture while it is running.
  • Do not let the Hand Blender stand in a hot pot on the stove while not in use.
  • Ensure the blade is beneath the surface of the mixture before turning the Hand Blender ON to prevent splashing.
  • Do not put fruit pits, bones, or other hard materials into the mixture, as they can damage the blades.
  • Do not overfill mixing containers; the mixture level will rise during blending.
  • Using warm liquids (not cold) facilitates blending solids with liquids.
  • For recipes calling for ice, use crushed ice, not whole cubes, for best results.

Attachments

(A) Blending / Mixing / Chopping / Mincing Blade

Use Speeds 3 and 4 for blending, mixing, chopping, and puréeing with the metal blade. The blade is designed for mixing and stirring various foods, emulsifying mayonnaise, and chopping/puréeing cooked fruits, vegetables, baby foods, and meats. Cut food into uniform 1/2-inch pieces for best results. Process food with a forceful up-and-down motion. If food becomes lodged in the guard, unplug the unit, remove the lodged food with a spatula (never fingers), then resume operation.

(B) Whipping Disc Attachment

Use Speeds 1 and 2 for whipping. This attachment is designed to add air and volume, making mixtures light and frothy. Ensure there is extra room in the mixing container. For recipes like mayonnaise or whipped cream, process for about 15 seconds, then gently lift the blender almost to the top of the liquid until thick.

Storage Stand / Wall Brackets

The two-part storage stand can be assembled for countertop use or separated for wall mounting. The wall mount piece has a round hole for the whipping disk.

Countertop Option: Assemble the two pieces by aligning tabs and slots. Store the motor body and shaft in their respective reservoirs.

Wall Mount Option: Use one of the two plastic storage stand pieces (the one with the round storage hole). Drill two holes 2 5/8 inches apart. Use the included template to mark the wall. Install plastic anchors and screws. Mount the bracket onto the screws. Hang the Hand Blender onto the mounted bracket.

Mini Chopper Grinder Storage: The attachment stores neatly on the countertop. Store the unit assembled, and keep blades out of reach of children.

Slide the Blade Ring down to the bottom of the sheath. Pick up the Blade Ring by its hub holding ribs and turn it slightly clockwise to lock it in place.

Assembly Steps:

  1. Place the Prep Bowl on a flat, dry surface.

Chopper Grinder Tips for Processing Food

Preparing the Food:

  • Size: Cut food into uniform pieces (1/4 to 1/2 inch) for even chopping.
  • Quantity: Do not overload the Prep Bowl. Use chart quantities as a guide.
  • Blade Edge Selection: Use the sharp edge for chopping, puréeing, and mixing soft foods (herbs, onions, nuts, cheese). Use the blunt edge for grinding coffee beans, spices, and chopping hard foods (peppercorns). Try the sharp blade first.
  • Operating Speed: Always use Speed 4 with the Chopper Grinder. Support the unit with one hand during operation.
  • Pulse Action: Use pulse action to prevent overprocessing. Check food frequently.
  • Continuous-Hold Action: Best for finely chopping or mincing. For hard foods, pulse first, then run continuously. Pulse every 10 seconds if running for over 10 seconds to allow food to drop to the bottom. Never operate continuously for longer than 1 minute.
  • Adding Liquid: Stop the blender, remove the lid, add liquid, replace the lid, and then continue processing.
  • Removing Food from Sides: Stop the machine, unplug, remove the cover, and use a spatula to scrape food from the sides back into the center.
  • Reversing the Blade: Unplug, remove motor body, remove cover, lift Blade Assembly, remove Blade Ring by its ribs, turn blade upside down, and reinsert on Sheath. Replace food and reassemble.

Processing Food:

  1. Place the Prep Bowl on a flat surface. Ensure the correct blade edge is used.
  2. Add food to the Prep Bowl, cut into small pieces and do not overload.
  3. Place the Chopper Grinder cover on top, ensuring it is properly seated.
  4. Select Speed 4 on the SmartStick™ Hand Blender.
  5. Press the ON/OFF button to run the Chopper Grinder. Support the unit during operation.
  6. Stop the machine by releasing the ON/OFF button.
  7. When the blade stops moving, unplug the unit, remove the motor body, and then remove the cover.
  8. Carefully remove the Blade Assembly by its gripping ridges. Never touch the blade itself.
  9. Remove food with a spatula.
