BMC Teammachine R 01: Redefine Racing

The all-new BMC Teammachine R was designed for a special breed of cyclist, forged on the slopes of the Swiss Alps and hardened over the cobbles of Spring Classics. Developed in collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the Teammachine R redefines what a race bike is capable of, offering an uncompromising race weapon for every watt and pedal stroke.

The Ultimate Partnership

In collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, BMC aimed to create the ultimate race bike. Leveraging Red Bull's vast aerodynamic expertise, they reimagined bike capabilities. BMC engineers then refined these concepts, translating Red Bull's simulations into a distinctly BMC product. This partnership resulted in the most complete race bike BMC has ever produced, merging Formula 1 technology with Swiss cycling precision for absolute no compromise.

Innovation at Race Speed

With a history of Grand Tour victories, World Championships, and Olympic Gold Medals, BMC understands the demands of winning. The Teammachine R was developed based on rider feedback, requiring a bike capable of excelling in all conditions: conquering Spring Classics, climbing mountains, and sprinting to victory. The Teammachine R embodies this, building upon BMC's past to write the next chapter of racing glory.

Adapted Racing Geometry

The Teammachine R features race-proven geometry adapted from the Teammachine SLR, with an optimized seat tube angle for improved fit across all sizes. Paired with the ICS Carbon Aero Cockpit, it provides a modern, aerodynamic race bike profile. The table below details the geometry for various sizes:

Race Simulation Technology

The Teammachine R's distinctive design is a direct result of computational fluid dynamic simulations conducted by Red Bull Advanced Technologies. Features like the hinged and sloping top tube, ultrawide fork, and substantial head tube and bottom bracket profiles are rooted in the pursuit of perfection. This collaboration pushed UCI race limits, creating a revolutionary bike that remains unmistakably BMC, driven by a commitment to innovation and rider performance.

Striking New Design

The Teammachine R boasts a striking new design, engineered to turn heads and deliver exceptional performance.

Aero Climbs Now

Creating a bike that balances bold aerodynamics with lightweight responsiveness for all terrains was a significant challenge. Despite thinner frontal profiles and advanced carbon layups, the Teammachine R achieves a remarkable combination of lightweight stiffness, ensuring no power is lost to the wind or gradients. Extensive analysis determined the frame and fork weights at 910g and 395g respectively, making the Teammachine R a 7.00kg* all-purpose race weapon. (*size 54, without bottle cages)

Halo Fork

The ultrawide parallel fork legs are unique in the peloton. By increasing the inner fork spacing, turbulent air generated by the front wheel is channeled away from the frame, reducing aero stall and drag. This results in cleaner airflow that hugs the frame longer. The Teammachine R is optimized for 25-28mm tires with a 30mm tire clearance (measured width).

Mariana Bottom Bracket

The bottom bracket area has been re-imagined for optimized airflow and architecture. Deeper tube shapes enhance surface area for cleaner airflow, with the downtube seamlessly integrating into the bottom bracket shoulders to minimize turbulence. The larger bottom bracket area also reduces the gap between the frame and rear wheel, promoting better airflow attachment to the rim.

Reduced Frontal Areas

Key tube shapes were manipulated to dramatically reduce frontal exposure for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. Unique carbon weave patterns and layup protocols ensure no compromise in performance or compliance, delivering a blend of aerodynamics and performance unlike any seen before.

Deep Horizontal Shapes

Pushing the boundaries of UCI frame shape regulations, BMC expanded the horizontal profile in critical areas like the head tube, bottom bracket, and seatstay junction. These evolved shapes not only look fast but also allow the Teammachine R to respond more effectively across a wider range of yaw angles.

Teammachine R Seatpost with Revised Clamp Design

The new Teammachine R seatpost is slimmer, deeper, and more compliant, with an optimized aerodynamic shape that reduces frontal exposure without sacrificing comfort or ride characteristics. A revised seatpost clamp mechanism, developed with feedback from professional riders and team mechanics, offers improved accessibility and ease of adjustment, making maintenance a breeze.

Aerocore Design with Integrated Bottle Cages

Every element of the Teammachine R was conceived as a complete package, including the bottle cages. The ultralight carbon bottle cages are integrated into the frame, keeping bottles low and shielded from turbulent air. This design lowers the center of gravity and enhances the bike's overall speed, even with bottles onboard.

Stealth Dropouts

Recognizing that marginal gains are crucial, no detail was overlooked. The stealth dropouts are not only aesthetically pleasing but also contribute to tidy and undisrupted airflow, ensuring every advantage is realized.

ICS Carbon Aero Cockpit

The ICS Carbon Aero Cockpit, with its progressive and aerodynamic shape, is the perfect complement to the Teammachine R. It features a narrow top width for an efficient aerodynamic position, while the increased width at the drops provides excellent control at high speeds and on rough surfaces. Key specifications include: 360mm width at the hoods, 420mm width at the drops, 12.5° flare, 72.5mm reach, 135mm drop, and length options from 80mm to 140mm.

Race Number Holder

A purpose-built race number holder is seamlessly integrated into the seatpost, eliminating the need for glue or zip ties. This design innovation reflects BMC's commitment to aesthetics, functionality, and racing performance.

Side-by-Side: Teammachine SLR vs. Teammachine R

Both the Teammachine SLR and Teammachine R are born from racing. The Teammachine SLR is the preferred choice for challenging mountain days and steep climbs, renowned for its supreme climbing ability. The Teammachine R, however, focuses on aerodynamics, adapting proven racing geometry with an aerodynamic revolution for a wide variety of racing scenarios and rider types, making it BMC's fastest race bike to date. While the SLR remains ideal for mountain finishes and riders seeking a high-performance bike for long days, owning both bikes ensures readiness for all conditions.
