Special Features
SPRAY MIST® Feature
This feature provides a powerful water spray mist to dampen fabric, aiding in wrinkle removal and crease setting. To use: Press the Spray Mist® Trigger firmly.
SHOT OF STEAM® Feature
Delivers an extra burst of steam for stubborn wrinkles. Can be used during Dry or Steam ironing on Wool, Cotton, or Linen settings, provided the water reservoir is at least 1/4 full. To use: Place the iron on the wrinkle and press the Shot of Steam® button. Use in approximately 3-second intervals.
VERTICAL SHOT OF STEAM® Feature
Allows the iron to function vertically as a garment steamer. Best results are achieved when clothing is hung on a hanger. Curtains and drapes can also be steamed. To use: Ensure the iron is heated and the "Ready" light is solid blue. Hold the iron vertically near, but not touching, the fabric. Pull the fabric taut. Press the Shot of Steam® button in 3-second intervals while moving the iron over wrinkles.
Warning: Keep hands away from the area being steamed to prevent burns. Do not steam garments while wearing them, as this may result in injuries.
3-WAY MOTION SMART® AUTO-OFF FEATURE
This feature turns the iron off automatically to prevent accidents if left in one position too long.
- If the iron is left horizontally without movement, or accidentally tipped over, it stops heating after 30 seconds.
- If the iron is left vertically on its heel rest without movement, it turns off after 15 minutes.
When auto-off activates, the unit will beep 6 times and the indicator light will blink. To reset: Move the iron back and forth to reheat until the "Ready" indicator light turns solid blue.
Caring for Your Iron
After Use
- Turn Steam Lever to (Dry) and Fabric Select Button to Off. Unplug the iron.
- Warning: Never yank the power cord when unplugging; this can damage the cord.
- Empty the water reservoir completely after each use.
Storing Your Iron
- Turn off, unplug, and allow the iron to cool completely.
- Empty the water reservoir after each use for a longer iron life.
- Loosely loop the power cord around the heel rest and store the iron on its heel rest.
- Important: Wrapping the cord too tightly can damage it.
Maintaining Your Iron
Using Self-Clean Feature
Use the Self-Clean feature once a month for optimal performance.
- Turn off and unplug the iron.
- Move the Steam Lever back and forth to remove debris and minerals from the Steam Valve, ensuring water flow.
- Fill the water reservoir with tap water to the MAX line.
- Plug in the iron, set the Fabric Select Button to Linen, and heat until the indicator light turns solid blue.
- Turn off and unplug the iron. Holding it horizontally over a sink, press and hold the Self-Clean Button. Water will drip from steam vents. Rock the iron gently side to side and front to back for 30 seconds. Dip the nose slightly below the rear to circulate water. Release the button after one minute.
- Open the fill cap and empty any remaining water. Carefully dry the soleplate with a towel.
- Plug in the iron, set the Fabric setting to Linen, and heat for 2 minutes to dry completely. Set the Fabric Select Button to Off, unplug, and allow to cool.
Cleaning Soleplate
Clean the soleplate after every 30 uses, or more frequently if starch is used or build-up occurs. Ensure the iron is unplugged and cool before cleaning.
Warning: Do not immerse in liquids or use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads, as this will damage the finish.
Type of Debris/Build-Up | Cleaning Recommendation |
---|---|
Light Dirt | Use a cotton cloth or terrycloth towel with warm soapy water. |
Hard Water Deposits | Use a cotton cloth or terrycloth towel with a 50/50 vinegar/water mixture. |
Heavy Starch or Residue Build-up | Use Hot Iron Cleaner or Mr. Clean® Magic Eraser® cleaning pad. Refer to manufacturer's directions. |
Anti-Calcium System
The anti-calcium system is a permanent system inside the water reservoir to eliminate impurities. To prolong its efficiency, follow these steps once a month or after every 30 uses:
- Turn off the iron.
- Add 1 teaspoon of salt to ¼ cup water and fill the water reservoir with this solution.
- Leave the solution in the reservoir for 15 minutes, shaking occasionally, then empty through the fill hole.
- Refill the reservoir with the salt water solution, shake, and empty after another 15 minutes.
- Fill the reservoir with fresh water to rinse and empty.
Ironing Tips
- Before ironing, check the garment label and follow manufacturer's instructions. If none, start with a low-heat setting, test a small area, and gradually increase heat.
- Sort garments by fabric type. Iron items requiring low temperature first, then gradually increase heat.
- When changing from a high to a lower temperature setting, allow 5 minutes for the iron to cool.
- When steam ironing, use long, slow passes to allow steam to penetrate and heat to dry moisture.
- Iron linen garments inside out to prevent shine. An ironing cloth or cotton fabric can reduce shine.
- If a garment is lined, use a low heat setting.
- Ensure zippers are closed and flaps are flat. Iron over the flap, holding the garment taut.
- Spray starch can make ironing easier.
Ironing Shirts
- Begin with the collar, working from outer edges toward the middle. Iron lengthwise, not in circles.
- Lay the shoulder over the narrow edge of the ironing board. Iron one side of the front, then the shoulder, across the back (below the collar line), the other shoulder, and the rest of the front.
- Iron sleeves and cuffs, working down from underarm seams. Shift double-layer sleeve fabric to remove creases.
- Iron the body of the garment, starting from half the front, around the back, then the second half of the front. If the shirt does not open, slip it over the end of the ironing board and iron the front and back.
Ironing Pants
- Begin with the waistband and inseam area, then pockets and cuffs.
- Pull the waistband onto the pointy end of the board, as if "dressing" the board. Iron the upper-front part of the pants, including the waistband.
- Place pants parallel to the ironing board lengthwise, with both legs facing the same direction. Iron each leg by moving the iron back and forth.
- Take the cuff of a leg and bring it over towards the waistband to iron the inner part of the leg. Repeat these steps for the second leg.
Troubleshooting
Problem: "Power" indicator light is blinking and fabric setting light is off
Cause/Solution: The red light blinks and beeps 6 times to indicate the auto-off function has been activated. To stop blinking and reset, move the iron back and forth and allow it to reheat until the indicator light turns solid blue.
Problem: Iron is not heating
Cause/Solution: Ensure the iron is on and the light below the fabric setting is illuminated. Verify the unit is plugged in. Adjust the fabric selection to the correct setting for your garments.
Problem: Iron will not steam
Cause/Solution: Ensure the water tank level is at least 1/4 full. Ensure the steam lever is switched on. Press the Shot of Steam® button several times to prime. Only fill with water to the MAX level. Allow to heat for at least 2 minutes and wait until the "Ready" indicator light is solid blue. Shot of Steam® may have been pressed too frequently; use in 3-second intervals or less. Steam Setting and/or Shot of Steam® may be used with an incorrect fabric setting; only use with Wool, Cotton, or Linen settings.
Problem: Iron is leaking
Cause/Solution: Empty the water tank after each use and turn the steam lever off. Empty the water tank completely after each use. Clean the soleplate when cool with a wet, damp cloth. Use the self-cleaning feature once a month. Refer to the Anti-Calcium System section. Ensure the water cup used to fill the iron is clean.
Problem: Iron leaves spots/flakes on clothing
Cause/Solution: Check that the iron is set to the correct fabric setting. Use Shot of Steam® or Spray Mist® features to help remove stubborn wrinkles. Ensure the water cup used to fill the iron is clean.
Problem: Wrinkles are not sufficiently removed
Cause/Solution: Use Shot of Steam® or Spray Mist® features to help remove stubborn wrinkles.
Problem: Fabrics are getting an unwanted "shine"
Cause/Solution: Use an ironing cloth or a 100% white cotton fabric placed between the garment and the iron to prevent shine. Iron linen garments inside out.
