Integrating Samsung SmartThings with Your OEM App
This document outlines the process of configuring an OEM app to support third-party voice assistant services, specifically Samsung SmartThings. SmartThings, a service provided by Samsung, offers popular voice assistant capabilities within the global smart home market, with a significant presence in the USA. This guide details the integration of SmartThings capabilities into your OEM app to enhance the user experience for SmartThings-compatible smart devices.
1. Prerequisites
To integrate with SmartThings, the target product must have access to the service. You can verify this support on the Tuya Developer Platform by navigating to Product > Development.
The Tuya IoT Platform interface displays product development details. It shows options for product management, including status, creation date, and last updated date. A specific product, 'r7upoeosn1jepcxn', is shown as 'Developing' with creation and update dates. |
If SmartThings support is not available for your product, you can subscribe to the SmartThings Access value-added service to enable it.
Additionally, you must have already developed an OEM app.
2. Procedure
To enable SmartThings support in your OEM app, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Tuya Developer Platform > App Creation. Click Configure for the relevant OEM app to access the app development wizard.
- Within the wizard, go to Step 2 Set Functions > Third-Party Voice Assistants. Select Support SmartThings and provide a capability name in the Skill Name field. If you have a custom branded capability, enter that name. Otherwise, 'Tuya Smart' can be used.
The Third-Party Voice Assistants section within the app development wizard allows configuration for various voice assistants. Options include support for Alexa, Google Assistant, and SmartThings, with fields to input Skill Name and App Name. |
- Rebuild the application after making the necessary configurations.
3. Preview the App
Once the app has been rebuilt, you can scan its QR code to download and preview it. After SmartThings is enabled, users can access its features by navigating to Me > SmartThings within the app.
The app preview screen shows various options including 'Tap to Set Nickname', 'SmartThings', 'Home Management', 'Message Center', and 'FAQ & Feedback'. The bottom navigation bar includes 'Home', 'Smart', and 'Me' tabs. |
