Understanding Cisco CBW Mesh Extenders: 141ACM, 142ACM, 143ACM
Objective
The purpose of this document is to familiarize users with Cisco Business Wireless (CBW) mesh extenders, specifically the 141ACM, 142ACM, and 143ACM models. These extenders are designed to work with a primary Access Point (AP) in a CBW mesh network. For basic knowledge of CBW mesh networks, refer to Cisco Business: Welcome to Wireless Mesh Networking.
General CBW Mesh Extender Information
The latest CBW APs are based on 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Wave 2) standards with integrated antennas, offering higher performance, increased range, and support for denser networks.
A CBW mesh network requires a functioning CBW Primary AP (140AC, 145AC, or 240AC) and at least one CBW Mesh Extender. Any combination of CBW APs can be used, provided the Primary AP is configured and operational.
Prerequisites for Adding a Mesh Extender
- Active Internet Connection (Cable or DSL)
- Cisco Business App, QR code reader, or visit https://ciscobusiness.cisco
- Router (to act as DHCP server)
- Enabled CBW Primary Access Point (140AC/145AC/240AC)
- For 142ACM/143ACM: Cisco SB Series PoE Switch or PoE Injector (802.3af PoE Injector), PoE-powered, wall-mounted Access Point, Cisco SB Series Router (as DHCP server), Configured and operational CBW Primary Access Point.
General CBW Mesh Extender Details
- Multi-User (MU) Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO): Allows simultaneous transmission to multiple clients supporting 2nd generation 802.11ac Wave for improved client experience.
- Management: Network can be configured and managed via a mobile app or a standard web browser.
- Authentication and Security: Supports Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 and 3 (WPA2), 802.1X, RADIUS authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA), 802.11r, and 802.11i.
- Maximum Associated Wireless Clients: 200 per Wi-Fi radio, for a total of 400 clients per Access Point.
- 802.11ac: 2x2 MU-MIMO with two spatial streams, supporting up to 867 Mbps, 20, 40, and 80 MHz channels, and dynamic frequency selection.
Supported Data Rates
- 802.11a: 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, and 54 Mbps
- 802.11b/g: 1, 2, 5.5, 6, 9, 11, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 5, and 4 Mbps
- 802.11n (2.4 GHz): 6.5 to 144 Mbps (MCS0-MCS15)
- 802.11ac (5 GHz): 6.5 to 867 Mbps (MCS0-MCS9)
Transmit Power Settings
- 2.4 GHz: Up to 20 dBm
- 5 GHz: Up to 20 dBm
Integrated Antennas
- 2.4 GHz: 2 dBi gain
- 5 GHz: 3 dBi gain
Status Indicators
Status LEDs indicate bootloader status, association status, operational status, bootloader warnings, and bootloader errors.
Environmental Conditions
- Operating:
- Temperature: 32° to 104°F (0° to 50°C)
- Humidity: 10% to 90% (non-condensing)
- Max Altitude: 9843 feet (3000 meters) at 40°C
- Non-Operating (Storage & Transport):
- Temperature: -22° to 158°F (–30° to 70°C)
- Humidity: 10% to 90% (non-condensing)
- Max Altitude: 15,000 feet (4500 meters) at 25°C
System Specifications
- 512 MB DRAM, 128 MB Flash Memory
- 710-MHz Quad-Core Processor
Environmental Considerations for Placement
To ensure optimal RF coverage, place Access Points as close as possible to wireless clients. Avoid areas such as basements (signals must penetrate many walls), near large obstructions (metal cabinets, refrigerators), or under metal desks or other dense/conductive objects.
