Start Guide
What's in the Box
- Smart Wi-Fi Outlet Extender: A white, rectangular smart plug with multiple outlets and a central power button.
- User Manual
Get Ready
- Know your Wi-Fi network and password.
- Ensure your mobile device is running iOS® 9 or higher or Android™ 5.0 or higher.
- Make sure you're connecting to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (Geeni cannot connect to 5GHz networks).
STEP 1: Download & Register
Download the Geeni App from the App Store or Google Play.

Register an account on your Geeni App:
- Enter your mobile phone number or email address.
- Enter the verification code and create a password.
- Log in to the App.
STEP 2: Plug In
Plug the Geeni device into the wall. Ensure the indicator light on the device is flashing rapidly blue, indicating the device is ready to connect.
(To reset, press and hold the button for 3 seconds)
STEP 3: Add Device
Easy Mode
- In the Geeni app, on the top corner of the Devices screen, click the add icon [+] and choose "Smart Power".
- Ensure the indicator light on the device is flashing rapidly blue. If not, press and hold the button for 3 seconds until the indicator light is flashing rapidly, then press "Next Step".
- Enter your Wi-Fi network name and password.
- The Geeni app will attempt to connect your device. (Note: Geeni cannot connect to 5GHz networks.)
Backup AP Mode
- Ensure the device is in AP Mode, indicated by a slowly blinking light. (Refer to reset instructions on page 4 for mode switching).
- In the Geeni app, on the top corner of the Devices screen, click the add icon [+] and choose "Smart Power". Then, choose "AP Mode" in the top corner.
- Click Next and enter your Wi-Fi details.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to choose the device's hotspot from your Wi-Fi list.
- The device will connect. (Note: Geeni cannot connect to 5GHz networks.)
Questions, Troubleshooting, Notices
How do I reset the device and what does the blinking light mean?
To reset the plug, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds:
- Reset once (press and hold): Reaches Easy mode (Fast blinking, 2x per second).
- Reset again (press and hold): Reaches AP Mode (Slow blinking, every 3 seconds).

Can I share with family and friends?
Yes, you can share your plugs with family and friends who will have access to control your Geeni devices. In the Geeni app, navigate to Profile > Device Sharing to grant or revoke permissions. The other user must have the Geeni app downloaded and an account registered.

Can I control each outlet individually?
Yes, each outlet can be named and controlled individually. In the app, each outlet has an on/off button and a pencil icon for renaming.

Can I group multiple GEENI devices together?
Yes, you can group multiple devices of the same type by room, location, or other criteria. From the device list, select a device, press the [three dots icon] for advanced settings, and click "Create Group". You can then select devices to group and rename them.

How Many Devices Can I Control?
The Geeni app supports an unlimited number of devices across unlimited locations. Your router may have a limit on the total number of connected devices.

My GEENI device has a funny name. How do I rename it?
From your main device list, select a device, press the [three dots icon] for advanced settings, and click "Modify Device Name" (or "Modify Group Name"). You can then choose a more familiar name.

The device appears offline or unreachable, what should I do?
Ensure your Wi-Fi router is online and within range. Check for firmware updates in the device settings within the Geeni app.

What's the Wireless Range?
The wireless range depends heavily on your home router and room conditions. Consult your router's specifications for exact range data.

If my Wi-Fi/Internet goes down, will Geeni still work?
Geeni products require a Wi-Fi connection to be used remotely.
Troubleshooting

Cannot connect to your Wi-Fi network:
Verify the Wi-Fi password entered during setup. Check for general internet connection problems. If the Wi-Fi signal is weak, try resetting your Wi-Fi router.

Voice Control Guide
Make sure your devices are already set up using the Geeni app, then follow these steps to control your Smart Wi-Fi Outlet Extender using your voice assistant.
Google Assistant
Things you can say*:
- "Hey Google, turn on all the lights in my bedroom."
- "Hey Google, turn off fan."
- "Hey Google, set the bedroom light to orange."
- "Hey Google, turn off the coffee machine."
- "Hey Google, set the living room to 50%."
- "Hey Google, dim porch light."
*Some commands require compatible devices.
- Open the Google Home app and go to Home Control in the menu.
- Tap the [+] button.
- Choose "Geeni" from the list of Home Control partners.
- Authorize your account with Google Assistant using your Geeni app username and password.
Your Google Home app and MERKURY devices are now linked. You can now say "Hey Google" to control your MERKURY devices. You can rename devices and assign them to rooms within the Google Home app for easier control.
Amazon Alexa
Things you can say*:
- "Alexa, discover my devices."
- "Alexa, turn on the bedroom light."
- "Alexa, set the bedroom light to orange."
- "Alexa, turn off the coffee machine."
- "Alexa, set the living room to 50%."
- "Alexa, dim porch light."
*Some commands require compatible devices.
- Open the Alexa app and go to Skills in the menu.
- Search for "Geeni" then tap Enable.
- Authorize your account with Smart Home Skills using your Geeni app username and password.
- Choose "Discover Devices." Your MERKURY devices will be displayed under Smart Home in the Alexa app.
You can rename your devices in the Geeni app, and Alexa will refer to them by the same name. You can also create Alexa groups (e.g., "Bedroom") and add the device to the group for easier control. More information is available at: http://tinyurl.com/alexa-smart-home-groups
Microsoft Cortana
Things you can say*:
- "Hey Cortana, turn on the bedroom light."
- "Hey Cortana, turn off fan."
- "Hey Cortana, set the bedroom light to 100%. "
- "Hey Cortana, turn off the coffee machine."
- "Hey Cortana, set the living room to 50%. "
- "Hey Cortana, dim porch light."
*Some commands require compatible devices.
- Open the Cortana app and go to Settings in the menu.
- Go to Connections and select the Connected Home option.
- Choose "Geeni" from the list of Connected Home partners.
- Tap "Connect."
- Authorize your account with Cortana using your Geeni app username and password.
Your Cortana app and Merkury devices are now linked. You can now say "Hey Cortana" and control your Merkury devices.
