Cleaning Instructions

Always wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling the Breastmilk Expression Set, the pump, or other attachments.

Disassemble the Breastmilk Expression Set for cleaning. Ensure that the tubing is free of any liquid. Do not operate the pump if liquid is visible in the tubing.

Sanitization Prior To First Use

  1. Before the first use, disassemble and boil all parts of the Breastmilk Expression Set for 10 minutes. Ensure enough water is used to keep parts afloat. Do not boil the tubing and tubing connector.
  2. Remove all parts from water immediately after boiling.
  3. Completely air or towel dry before assembly and next use. Ensure parts are completely dry, as partially dried parts may affect pump operation.

Cleaning

  • Set aside the tubing and tubing connector; they do not need to be washed or sanitized as the diaphragm prevents breastmilk contact.
  • All other parts of the Breastmilk Expression Set can be cleaned in the upper compartment of a dishwasher or hand-washed with dish soap in hot water. Do not use solvents or abrasives. Rinse with hot, clean water.
  • To clean the Breast Pump base, wipe with a damp cloth using only water or mild soap.
  • Ensure diaphragms are completely dry before use for best results.
  • Do not wash the tubing or tubing connector.

Visually inspect all components for cracks, chips, tears, discoloration, or deterioration before use. Visit www.lansinohstore.com or call 800-292-4794 for guidance or replacement parts.

Assembling the Breastmilk Expression Set

Your Breastmilk Expression Set comes preassembled. Clean parts (except tubing and connector) as per the cleaning instructions. Once clean and dry, assemble as follows:

Diagram Description: The assembly involves connecting the diaphragm cap and diaphragm to the breast flange body, attaching the flange to the body, securing the white valve, screwing on the bottle, and inserting the tubing.

  1. Place the purple diaphragm on top of the breast flange body. Twist the clear diaphragm cap onto the breast flange body, enclosing the diaphragm. The diaphragm can be used on either side. Ensure the cap is twisted tightly.
  2. Push the breast flange into the breast flange body.
  3. Gently secure the white valve into the bottom of the breast flange. Handle the small white valve with care.
  4. Screw the breastmilk storage bottle onto the breast flange body.
  5. Insert the tubing into the back of the clear diaphragm cap, ensuring a tight fit.
  6. Insert the tubing connector, at the end of the tubing, into the tubing adapter input on the pump.

Pumping Tips ?

The most important part of successful pumping is the let-down reflex. Warm compresses and light massaging of the breasts can help. Thinking of or looking at your baby may also aid this reflex.

Some mothers can achieve multiple let-downs per session. You can try to trigger a second or third let-down by pressing the Let-Down button.

How Long To Pump

Double pumping saves time. Breastmilk production is based on supply and demand; regular expression stimulates and maintains milk supply. For breastfeeding problems, consult a physician, lactation consultant, or La Leche League Leader.

Using The Lansinoh® Affinity® Breast Pump

For Double Pumping

  1. Ensure both tubes are attached to the tubing connector and insert into the pump base.
  2. Hold the Breastmilk Expression Set to your breasts, centering your nipples.
  3. Press the On/Off button to begin pumping. The pump starts in the Let-Down Phase (Phase I). After two minutes, it automatically switches to the Expression Phase (Phase II).
  4. To bypass or shorten Phase I, press the Let-Down button to move directly to Phase II. The Expression Icon will appear on the display.

Using the Affinity® Breast Pump (Expression Phase)

  1. During the Expression Phase, you can independently adjust cycle and suction settings using the (+) and (-) buttons next to the respective icons.
  2. For maximum milk flow, set the cycle to L6 (Figure 1). This slows the rhythm but lengthens the cycle, allowing for more effective milk draw.
  3. After setting the cycle to L6, increase suction to L8 (Figure 2) or your comfort level. This combination provides optimal milk expression.
  4. When finished, turn off the pump using the On/Off button. Ensure there is no suction on the nipple(s) before removing the breast flanges. Break suction by inserting a finger between the flange and breast if needed.

Note: The LCD display light turns off after 20 seconds of inactivity to save power. The pump will automatically shut off after 30 minutes of unattended use.

For Single Pumping:

Remove one tube and close the tubing connector. Ensure the plug is placed securely into the pipe outlet.

Power Options

The pump can be operated using the AC adapter or 6 AA batteries (not included).

AC Adapter (included)

Connect the AC adapter to the power receptacle on the left side of the pump and plug it into an electrical outlet. Electrical safety is ensured only when using the supplied AC adapter.

6 AA Alkaline Or Rechargeable Batteries (not included)

Open the battery cover underneath the pump and insert 6 AA batteries, observing correct polarity (+/-). Close the compartment. Remove batteries if the pump will not be used for an extended period. Dispose of batteries according to environmental regulations. Replace batteries as a set. Do not mix old/new or different battery types (alkaline, carbon-zinc, nickel-cadmium).

Note: If batteries are installed and the AC adapter is in use, the pump will run on AC power. The AC adapter is universal (100-240V AC, 50-60Hz).

Breastmilk Storage Guidelines

Consult your healthcare provider or a lactation consultant for specific storage instructions. When freezing breastmilk, fill containers no more than 3/4 full to allow for expansion. Date containers with the expression date.

Milk Type Deep Freeze (approx. 0°F) Refrigerator (32° to 39°F) Room Temperature (66° to 78°F)
Fresh Breastmilk 6+ months 6 months Up to 8 days
Thawed Breastmilk Do not refreeze Do not refreeze Up to 6 hours

Note: Do not store breastmilk in the freezer door, as it is the warmest part. Always use the oldest breastmilk first.

Optional cooler packs can store up to six 5 oz bottles for up to 10 hours at room temperature.

Thawing

Thaw frozen milk in the refrigerator or under cool running water. Thawed milk can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Do not refreeze thawed milk. Gently shake thawed milk before feeding. Breastmilk composition can vary. Do not microwave human milk, as it alters composition and can create hot spots. Do not thaw breastmilk in hot or boiling water.

Troubleshooting / Technical Data

Troubleshooting

  • Interruption of Electrical Service: Unplug and replug the AC adapter cord.
  • Discomfort While Pumping: Consider a different size flange. Contact Lansinoh for assistance.
  • Decreased Suction: Ensure the pump is set to the highest cycle (L6) and suction (L8) for optimal expression. Check tubing, assembly, and white valve for damage or incorrect placement. For single pumping, ensure the tubing adapter is closed. For double pumping, ensure both flanges are attached.
  • Increased Suction (Single Pumping): Check the tubing plug for cleanliness and clear airway.
  • Breastmilk Buildup: Reduce suction to allow milk to drain, then gradually increase.

Technical Data

  • Power Requirements: AC Adapter (included, 100-240V AC, 50-60Hz) or 6 AA batteries (1.5V alkaline or 1.2V rechargeable).
  • Regulatory Compliance: Type BF Applied Part.

Power Adapter Care: Do not wrap the cord around the plug. Do not unplug by pulling the cord. Do not use a damaged adapter.
