- Firmware updates must be done manually via the support page.
- The DVR must be registered for Technical Phone Support.
- Remote viewing is not possible.
- Password resets are more complex.
Step 1: Connecting Your System
Choose between two setup options:

- Connect the camera's video/power cable to the DVR and the camera.
- Connect the power splitter to the video/power cables and then to the camera power adapter.
- Connect the DVR power adapter to the DVR and plug into a surge protector/UPS.
Option 2: Manual Setup (TV / Monitor)
If you prefer to use a TV/Monitor for setup:
- Connect the HDMI cable from the DVR to your TV/Monitor.
- Plug the USB mouse into the DVR's USB port.
- Connect the Ethernet cable from the DVR to your router/modem.
- Connect the camera's video/power cable to the DVR and the camera.
- Connect the power splitter to the video/power cables and then to the camera power adapter.
- Connect the DVR power adapter to the DVR and plug into a surge protector/UPS.
Note: Ensure BNC connectors are twisted and locked. Test each camera locally before installation.
Step 2: Download Night Owl Protect
For first-time users, download the Night Owl Protect app from the App Store or Google Play Store onto your smart device. If you have an existing account, skip to Step 3.
Create and verify your Night Owl Protect account.
Step 3: System Configuration
Option 1: Easy Bluetooth® Wireless Setup
- Log in to the Night Owl Protect app. Ensure Bluetooth® is enabled.
- The app will use Bluetooth® to find the DVR. Tap "Continue" to add the DVR to your account.
- Name your recorder.
- The app will pair to the DVR. Complete the Startup Wizard and begin viewing cameras.
Option 2: Manual Setup (TV / Monitor)
Connecting to the Internet is recommended for firmware updates and enhanced security.
- Connect your DVR to a TV/Monitor using the HDMI cable.
- Download and log in to the Night Owl Protect App.
- Proceed through the Startup Wizard. When prompted, click "Manual Setup (not recommended)".
- Complete the Startup Wizard and click "Go to Live View".
Note: If the DVR is not connected to the Internet, live viewing from the app will not be possible.
