Installation
Telephone Base Setup
Connect the telephone line cord to a telephone jack or a DSL filter. A DSL filter is required if you have DSL high-speed Internet service.
Charger and Battery Installation
Install the battery into the handset, ensuring the correct side is up ("THIS SIDE UP / CE CÔTÉ VERS LE HAUT"). Charge the handset(s) for at least ten hours before initial use. Use only the provided power adapter(s) and rechargeable battery.
Handset Button Functions
Keypad and Controls:
- CHARGE light: Indicates when the handset is charging.
- PUSH TO TALK: Press for one-to-one or one-to-group broadcast. Press and hold for group broadcast.
- REDIAL PAUSE: Press repeatedly to view the last 10 dialed numbers. Press and hold while dialing to insert a pause.
- MENU SELECT: Press to display the menu (when idle). Press to select an item or save settings (when in menu).
- DIR: Press to show directory entries (when idle).
- CID: Press to show caller ID log (when idle).
- PHONE / ? / SPEAKER: Press to make or answer a call. Press during a call to answer a second incoming call (call waiting). Press to hang up. While in a menu, press to cancel or back up; press and hold to exit to idle mode. Press and hold to set/dial voicemail. Press to switch to tone dialing temporarily. Press to change letter case (while entering names). Press and hold to access QUIET mode settings. Press to use speakerphone.
- OFF: Functions similar to PHONE/CANCEL/VOICEMAIL/TONE/QUIET mode activation.
- MUTE DELETE: Press to mute the microphone during a call. Press to delete a digit or character. Press to block an incoming call.
- CALL BLOCK: Press to block an incoming call or a call in progress. Press when idle to access the Smart Call Blocker menu.
- VOLUME / VOLUME: Press to scroll through menus. Press to adjust listening volume during a call.
- TONE /a>A: Press to switch to tone dialing. Press to change letter case. Press and hold to access QUIET mode settings.
- QUIET #: Press and hold to access QUIET mode settings.
Telephone Base Button Functions
Controls:
- / FIND HS: Press to page all handsets when the phone is idle.
- VOL / VOL: Press to adjust base ringer volume (idle). Press to adjust listening volume during message playback.
- IN USE indicator: Lights up when the phone or answering system is active. Flashes for incoming calls or deregistration.
- FLASH/PTT: Press for broadcast. Press during a call to answer a second incoming call (call waiting).
- CID: Press to show caller ID log (when idle).
- MENU/SELECT: Navigate menus and lists (scroll up/down, move cursor). Press to select items or save settings.
- DIR: Press to show directory entries (when idle).
- CANCEL: Cancel operations, back up, exit menus. Mute ringer temporarily. Press and hold to erase missed call indicator. Block incoming calls. Access Smart Call Blocker menu.
- REDIAL/PAUSE: Press repeatedly to view last 10 numbers dialed. Press and hold to insert a dialing pause.
- / ANS ON/OFF: Press to turn the answering system on or off.
- / REPEAT / SKIP: Control message playback: repeat, play previous, skip.
- / PLAY/STOP: Start or stop message playback.
- MUTE/DELETE: Mute microphone during a call. Mute ringer temporarily. Delete entries or digits. Delete playing message or announcement. Press twice to delete all old messages.
- /SPEAKER MIC: Press to use speakerphone. Microphone.
- TONE /a>A: Dial voicemail. Switch to tone dialing. Change letter case. Display dialing options. Access QUIET mode settings.
- QUIET #: Access QUIET mode settings.
Basic Initial Settings
Date and Time
Set the date and time before using the answering system. Navigate through the menu: -> or -> Set date/time -> SELECT. Enter month, day, year, hour, minute, and AM/PM using dialing keys and SELECT.
Basic Answering System Setup via Voice Guide
Follow the voice guide to record an announcement, set the number of rings, and configure the message alert tone. Navigate: -> or -> Answering sys -> SELECT, then -> or -> Voice guide -> SELECT. Follow on-screen instructions.
Record Your Own Announcement
Your outgoing announcement plays when calls are answered by the system. You can use the preset announcement or record your own. Navigate: -> or -> Answering sys -> SELECT, then -> to select Announcement -> to select Record annc. Speak towards the handset or base after the tone and press 5 to end recording.
Number of Rings
Set the answering system to answer after 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 rings, or use Toll Saver. Toll Saver answers after two rings if new messages exist, and four rings if no new messages, to help save on long-distance charges. Ensure the answering system answers at least two rings before voicemail. Navigate: -> or -> Answering sys -> SELECT, then -> or -> Ans sys setup -> SELECT, then -> or -> # of rings -> SELECT. Choose the desired setting and press SELECT.
Ringer Volume
Set the ringer volume to one of six levels or turn it off. Navigate: -> or -> Ringers -> SELECT, then -> to select Ringer volume. Choose the desired level and press SELECT.
Reset Language to English
If the display language was changed accidentally, reset it to English. While in idle mode, enter 364#.
Operation
Making a Call
On-hook dialing (predialing): Press PHONE or /SPEAKER on handset, or /SPEAKER or lift corded handset on base, then enter the telephone number.
Direct dialing: Enter the telephone number, then press PHONE, /SPEAKER, or lift the corded handset to call.
Answering a Call
Handset: Press PHONE or /SPEAKER, or any dialing key (0-9, TONE, #).
Base: Press /SPEAKER, or lift the corded handset.
Ending a Call
Handset: Press OFF or return the handset to the charger.
Base: Press /SPEAKER, or hang up the corded handset.
Handset Speakerphone
During a call, press /SPEAKER to switch between speakerphone and normal handset use.
Redial
Handset: Press REDIAL repeatedly to select an entry, then press PHONE or /SPEAKER to call.
Base: Press REDIAL repeatedly to select an entry, then press /SPEAKER or lift the corded handset to call.
Volume Control
Base: Press VOL to decrease or VOL to increase listening volume during a call.
Handset: Press or to adjust listening volume during a call.
Call Waiting
(Requires subscription from telephone service provider) Press FLASH on the handset or FLASH/PTT on the base to put the current call on hold and answer the new call. Press again to switch between calls.
Caller ID
This product supports caller ID services. The telephone stores caller ID information for the last 50 incoming calls, common to all devices.
Caller ID Announce
When active, the handset/base announces "Call from..." followed by the caller's name. This feature can be turned on or off for the base or individual handsets. Navigate: -> or -> Settings -> SELECT, then -> or -> Caller ID annc -> SELECT. Choose setting (Set all On/Off, Local handset, Base) and On/Off, then SELECT.
Review and Dial a Number in the Call Log
In idle mode, press CID. Use -> or -> to scroll through the list. When the desired entry is displayed, press PHONE or /SPEAKER (handset) or /SPEAKER or lift corded handset (base) to call.
Missed Call Indicator
When there are new or missed calls, the screen shows "XX Missed calls". Erase the indicator by reviewing the call log or by pressing and holding CANCEL on the handset or base in idle mode.
Directory
The directory stores up to 50 entries, shared by all system devices.
Adding an Entry
Navigate: -> or -> Directory -> SELECT, then -> or -> Add contact -> SELECT. Enter telephone number (up to 30 digits) -> SELECT. Enter name (up to 15 characters) -> SELECT.
Searching/Dialing an Entry
In idle mode, press DIR. Use -> or -> to browse, or press dialing keys (0-9) to start a name search. Press PHONE or /SPEAKER (handset) or /SPEAKER or lift corded handset (base) to call.
Smart Call Blocker
Filter incoming calls from unknown callers if you subscribe to caller ID service. (Includes licensed QaltelTM technology.)
Turn Smart Call Blocker On or Off
Smart Call Blocker is on by default, allowing all calls. To change settings: Press CALL BLOCK in idle mode -> SELECT -> -> or -> On or Off -> SELECT.
Notes:
- Smart Call Blocker allows all calls by default. Settings can be changed to screen calls from numbers/names not in your directory, allow list, or block list. You can easily add numbers to your allow and block lists.
- If turned off, all calls will ring, including those on the block list.
- When QUIET mode is on and Smart Call Blocker is in screening mode, screened calls go to the answering system.
Call Control and Options
Call Categories:
- Unwelcome calls: Numbers saved in block list.
- Welcome calls: Numbers saved in allow list, directory, or caller ID names saved in star name list.
- Calls without numbers: Numbers that are "out of area" or set to "Private".
- Uncategorized calls: Calls with absent caller ID number, numbers not found in directory, allow list, or block list, or caller ID names not found in star name list.
Call control and options (for Calls without numbers and Uncategorized calls):
- Screening with caller name: Plays a screening announcement, asks caller to say their name. You hear the name if Caller ID Announce is on. You can then accept, reject, or forward to answering system.
- Screening without caller name: Plays a screening announcement, asks caller to press '#' before the call rings. You can then answer.
- Allow (default): Calls get through and ring.
- Answering system: Forwards calls to the answering system without ringing.
- Block: Rejects calls with a block announcement.
Set Up Allow List, Block List and Star Name List
Add numbers from Caller ID log:
- To Block List: Press CID (idle) -> scroll -> SELECT desired entry -> -> or -> Block list -> SELECT -> SELECT again.
- To Allow List: Press CID (idle) -> scroll -> SELECT desired entry -> -> or -> Allow list -> SELECT -> SELECT again.
- To Star Name List: Press CID (idle) -> scroll -> SELECT desired entry -> -> or -> Star name list -> SELECT -> SELECT again.
Add numbers manually:
- In Block List: CALL BLOCK -> -> or -> Block list -> SELECT -> -> or -> Add new entry -> SELECT. Enter number -> SELECT. Enter name -> SELECT.
- In Allow List: CALL BLOCK -> -> or -> Allow list -> SELECT -> -> or -> Add new entry -> SELECT. Enter number -> SELECT. Enter name -> SELECT.
- In Star Name List: CALL BLOCK -> -> or -> Star name list -> SELECT -> -> or -> Add new entry -> SELECT. Enter name -> SELECT.
Add a Screened Number to the Block List or Allow List
When the telephone announces screening options after you pick up a screened call:
- Press 2 to add the current number to the allow list.
- Press 3 to add the current number to the block list.
Option While on a Call
During a call, if you wish to end it and block the number: Press CALL BLOCK -> SELECT to end the call and add the number to the block list.
Notes:
- Allow list: up to 200 entries. Block list: up to 1,000 entries. Star name list: up to 10 names.
- The star name list is useful for organizations like schools or medical offices that use autodialers for important information, ensuring these calls ring through when you know the caller's name but not their number.
Call Block Settings Examples
- Block all unknown calls: CALL BLOCK -> -> or -> Calls w/o num -> SELECT -> -> Block -> SELECT -> -> Uncategorized -> SELECT -> -> Block -> SELECT.
- Block calls on the block list only (default settings): CALL BLOCK -> -> or -> Calls w/o num -> SELECT -> -> Allow -> SELECT -> -> Uncategorized -> SELECT -> -> Allow -> SELECT.
- Forward all unknown calls to the answering system: CALL BLOCK -> -> or -> Calls w/o num -> SELECT -> -> Answering sys -> SELECT -> -> Uncategorized -> SELECT -> -> Answering sys -> SELECT.
- Block calls without numbers and send uncategorized calls to the answering system: CALL BLOCK -> -> or -> Calls w/o num -> SELECT -> -> Block -> SELECT -> -> Uncategorized -> SELECT -> -> Answering sys -> SELECT.
Answering System
About Answering System and Voicemail
Your telephone has separate indicators for messages left on the built-in answering system and messages left at your telephone service provider's voicemail. Refer to the Message playback section for the built-in system or contact your provider for voicemail.
Turn Answering System On or Off
The answering system must be on to record messages.
- Handset: Navigate: -> or -> Answering sys -> SELECT, then -> or -> Answer ON/OFF -> SELECT. Choose On or Off -> SELECT. The handset shows "ANS ON" when active.
- Base: Press / ANS ON/OFF. The base announces "Calls will be answered" (on) or "Calls will not be answered" (off).
Message Alert Tone
When this feature is on and there's at least one new message, the base beeps every 10 seconds. Navigate: -> or -> Answering sys -> SELECT, then -> or -> Ans sys setup -> SELECT, then -> to select Msg alert tone -> SELECT. Choose On or Off -> SELECT.
Call Screening
Choose whether incoming messages can be heard over the speaker as they are recorded. If on, you can answer the call by pressing PHONE (handset) or /SPEAKER or lifting the corded handset (base) while monitoring. Navigate: -> or -> Answering sys -> SELECT, then -> or -> Ans sys setup -> SELECT, then -> to select Call screening. Choose On or Off -> SELECT.
Message Playback
- Base: Press /PLAY when idle. If only new or only old messages, they play automatically. If both, press -> or -> Play new msgs or Play old msgs -> SELECT.
- Handset: Press 5 twice when idle. If only new or only old messages, they play automatically. If both, press -> or -> Play new msgs or Play old msgs -> SELECT.
