Enable this to be notified if the alarm loses connection to the Wi-Fi router or cloud server. This helps diagnose network issues or placement problems.
Alarm Test
Always test the alarm:
- When turned on for the first time.
- Whenever the battery is changed or the device is reconfigured.
- Weekly.
- After being away from home for a long time.
To test: Briefly press the test/silence button. (Holding for >3 seconds enters pairing mode and erases settings).
The alarm will emit 2 sets of 3 long beeps followed by 2 sets of 4 quick beeps.
If connected to the router, the LED indicator flashes red then green rapidly.
After testing, the alarm enters standby mode.
NOTES:
- The test function checks electronics, not smoke/CO. If the test signal fails, refer to troubleshooting. Never use an open flame.
- If the LED indicator flashes green for 2 minutes during testing, the connection failed. Repeat Wi-Fi setup.
Installation Positioning
General Guidelines:
- Prioritize smoke alarm installation in bedrooms and walkways for audibility. Install in every bedroom if multiple exist. If only one, place it near bedrooms, not in basements or furnace rooms.
- Install an alarm above the stairway and on every floor.
- Install alarms in the middle of the ceiling where possible, away from corners.
- If ceiling installation isn't possible, install at least 20 in (50 cm) from corners.
- For wall mounting, place 4–12 in (10–30 cm) below the ceiling.
- In rooms longer than 30 ft (900 cm), install multiple alarms.
- On angled ceilings/walls, install within 3 ft (90 cm) of the highest point.
- In multi-level homes, install at least one wireless alarm per level, aligned vertically if possible, with minimal obstacles for signal transmission.
