Groundbreaking Ease of Use

The ZD420 is designed for intuitive operation. It features five status icons (status, pause, data, supplies, network) and a three-button interface, replacing the typical single-button/single-light setup. This allows users to quickly understand the printer's status, such as the need for media replenishment or issue resolution.

A key innovation is the ribbon cartridge, which loads in seconds with a fool-proof installation mechanism that ensures it can only be loaded one way. A crypto chip in the ribbon indicates when replacement is needed.

The ZD420 offers flexibility for current and future needs. Its movable media sensor supports various media types, including those with off-center black marks or multiple labels across the width.

Connectivity options are extensive, including standard USB and USB Host. Optional Ethernet, auto-sensing serial, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and Bluetooth 4.1 are available, allowing simultaneous wired and wireless connections. Printing from iOS devices is supported via MFi certified Bluetooth 4.1.

Users can easily add new communication or media handling options on-site, such as serial or Ethernet connectivity, or a peeler or cutter, without taking the printer out of service. This modular, field-upgradable design ensures maximum functionality and uptime.

The ZD420 provides backwards compatibility with existing applications and formats, supporting Zebra ZPL and EPL printer languages, as well as many non-Zebra languages, simplifying upgrades from older or competitive printers.

With 300 dpi printing capability, the ZD420 supports applications requiring high image quality for small 2D labels or graphics like logos.

The movable media sensor allows the use of virtually any media from any manufacturer, providing flexibility in supply choices.

Easy to Clean and Sanitize Healthcare Model

A dedicated healthcare model is available, featuring disinfectant-ready, UV-resistant plastics and a sealed button interface for easy cleaning and disinfection. This makes it suitable for demanding environments like hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and labs. The 300 dpi option is beneficial for printing small labels on specimen containers and prescriptions.

Link-OS for Unparalleled Ease of Management

The ZD420 runs on Zebra's Link-OS software platform, simplifying printer integration, management, and maintenance from any location. This platform enables centralized management of printers via the cloud. The NFC Print Touch feature allows users to tap a compatible mobile device on the printer for quick pairing, printing, and access to Zebra's knowledge base for troubleshooting.
