1.2 Product Details
The Sena SPIDER RT1 features the following components:
- Main Unit: The central control unit.
- Buttons: Center Button, (+) Button, (-) Button, Mesh Intercom Button.
- Antenna: External Mesh Intercom Antenna.
- LED: Status LED indicator.
- Connectors: Speaker Connectors, Microphone Connector, DC Power Charging & Firmware Update Port.

2. INSTALLING THE HEADSET ON YOUR HELMET
2.1 Installing the Main Unit
The main unit can be installed using either hook and loop fasteners or a clamp.
2.1.1 Using the Hook and Loop Fasteners for Main Unit
- Clean the designated area on the helmet with a moistened towel and dry thoroughly.
- Attach the loop fastener to the helmet.
- Attach the hook fastener to the back plate of the main unit.
- Attach the main unit to the helmet using the fasteners.
2.1.2 Using the Double Sided Adhesive Tapes for Main Unit
- Clean the designated area on the helmet with a moistened towel and dry thoroughly.
- Attach one side of the double-sided adhesive tape to the back plate of the main unit.
- Attach the main unit to the helmet. Maximum adhesion occurs after 24 hours.
2.1.3 Using the Clamp for Main Unit
- Clean the area on the back plate of the clamp.
- Attach double-sided adhesive tapes to the back plate of the clamp.
- Insert the clamp's back plate between the internal padding and external shell of the helmet.
2.2 Installing the Speakers
- Attach the hook and loop fasteners to the ear pockets inside the helmet.
- Attach the speakers to the fasteners.
- Align the arrows on the main unit and speaker cables and insert the speaker cables into each speaker connector.
Note: The longer speaker cable lead is for the right speaker, and the shorter lead is for the left speaker. Speaker pads can be used if the helmet has deep ear pockets.
2.3 Installing the Microphones
2.3.1 Using the Wired Boom Microphone
- Attach the hook and loop fastener for the boom microphone to the inside surface of the left external shell of the helmet.
- Attach the boom microphone's mounting plate to the hook and loop fastener.
Note: Ensure the helmet's internal padding is reinstalled. A boom microphone holder can be used for secure installation.
2.3.2 Using the Wired Microphone
- Attach the hook and loop fastener for the wired microphone to the inside of the helmet's chin guard.
- Attach the wired microphone to the hook and loop fastener.
Note: The shortest cable is for the microphone.
2.4 External Mesh Intercom Antenna
Pull the Mesh Intercom Antenna inwards slightly to unfold it.
3. GETTING STARTED
3.1 Downloadable Sena Software
3.1.1 App
Download the Sena Motorcycles App or WAVE Intercom App from the Google Play Store or the App Store. For detailed information on Wave Intercom™, refer to the Wave Intercom User Guide from sena.com.
3.1.2 SPIDER Updater Software for Windows PC or Mac
Download the SPIDER Updater Software at sena.com.
3.2 Charging
The headset can be fully charged in approximately 2.5 hours, depending on the charging method.
Note:
- The headset features Fast Charging, providing up to 2.0 hours of Mesh communication after 20 minutes of charging.
- Third-party USB chargers approved by FCC, CE, IC, or other agencies can be used.
- Using non-approved chargers may pose hazards such as fire or explosion.
3.3 Legend
- TAP [Number]x: Tap the button the specified number of times.
- HOLD [Time]: Press and hold the button for the specified amount of time.
- “Hello”: Audible prompt.
- “Audible prompt”: Audible prompt.
3.4 Powering On and Off
- Powering On: Press and hold the Center Button for 3 seconds.
- Powering Off: Tap the Center Button once.
3.5 Volume Adjustment
Volume can be adjusted by tapping the (+) Button or the (-) Button. Volume levels are maintained independently for each audio source.
- Volume Up: Tap the (+) Button.
- Volume Down: Tap the (-) Button.
3.6 Checking the Battery Level
When powering on the headset, the battery level is indicated by a series of LED lights. A voice prompt will announce the battery status (e.g., "Battery level is high/medium/low").
Note: A "Low battery" voice prompt will be heard when the battery is low during use.
4. PAIRING THE HEADSET WITH OTHER BLUETOOTH DEVICES
Pairing enables the headset to recognize and communicate with other Bluetooth devices within range.
The headset can pair with multiple devices, including mobile phones and GPS devices.
Icons: Mobile Phone, MP3 Player, GPS Devices.
4.1 Phone Pairing
- While the headset is on, press and hold the Center Button for 5 seconds until the LED blinks blue and a "Phone pairing" voice prompt is heard.
- Select SPIDER RT1 in the list of detected Bluetooth devices. If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
Note: The SPIDER RT1 automatically enters phone pairing mode upon first power-on or after a factory reset. Press any button to cancel phone pairing.
4.2 Second Mobile Phone Pairing
- Press and hold the Center Button for 10 seconds to enter the configuration menu.
- Tap the (+) Button once to select "Second mobile phone pairing."
- Select SPIDER RT1 in the list of detected Bluetooth devices. If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
4.3 GPS Pairing
- Press and hold the Center Button for 10 seconds to enter the configuration menu.
- Double tap the (+) Button to select "GPS pairing."
- Select SPIDER RT1 in the list of detected Bluetooth devices. If prompted for a PIN, enter 0000.
5. MOBILE PHONE USAGE
5.1 Making and Answering Calls
- Answer a Call: Tap the Center Button once.
- Reject a Call: Press and hold the Center Button for 2 seconds.
- End a Call: Press and hold the Center Button for 2 seconds.
- Call a Voice Assistant: Press and hold the Center Button for 3 seconds while in standby mode.
5.2 Speed Dialing
5.2.1 Assigning Speed Dial Presets
Speed Dial Presets can be assigned through the Sena Motorcycles App.
5.2.2 Using Speed Dial Presets
- Enter the Speed Dial menu by pressing and holding the Center Button for 3 seconds.
- Navigate through Speed Dial numbers by tapping the (+) Button or (-) Button.
- Call a Speed Dial preset by tapping the Center Button once.
- Redial the last number called by tapping the Center Button once.
5.3 HD Voice (Always On)
HD Voice enables high-definition communication during phone calls, providing crisp and clear audio.
Note: Refer to your Bluetooth device manufacturer to confirm HD Voice support.
6. STEREO MUSIC
6.1 Playing Music with Bluetooth Devices
- Play/Pause Music: Press and hold the Center Button for 1 second.
- Track Forward/Backward: Press and hold the (+) Button or (-) Button for 1 second.
7. MESH INTERCOM
7.1 What is Mesh Intercom?
Mesh Intercom is a Sena communication system that provides instant, effortless bike-to-bike communication without pre-grouping. It allows users to connect and communicate with nearby users without pairing each headset.
The working distance is up to 1.2 mi (2 km) in open terrain, extendable up to 5 mi (8 km) between a minimum of six users.
Users can communicate in two modes:
- Open Mesh™: For open group intercom conversations.
- Group Mesh™: For private group intercom conversations.

7.1.1 Open Mesh
Open Mesh is an open group intercom function allowing users to communicate freely within the same channel (1-6). It supports a virtually unlimited number of users per channel.

7.1.2 Group Mesh
Group Mesh is a closed group intercom function enabling users to join, leave, or rejoin conversations without pairing. Up to 24 users can connect in a private group.

7.2 Starting Mesh Intercom
- Mesh Intercom On: Tap the Mesh Intercom Button once. A voice prompt "Mesh intercom on, Open Mesh, channel 1" will be heard.
- Mesh Intercom Off: Tap the Mesh Intercom Button once. A voice prompt "Mesh intercom off" will be heard.
7.3 Mesh Version Switch
Switch to Mesh 2.0 for Backward Compatibility: Mesh 3.0 is the latest technology. To communicate with legacy products using Mesh 2.0, switch via the Sena Motorcycles App.
7.4 Using the Mesh in Open Mesh
When Mesh Intercom is enabled, the headset defaults to Open Mesh, channel 1.
7.4.1 Channel Setting (Default: channel 1)
If interference occurs on channel 1, you can select channels 1 to 6.
- Double tap the Mesh Intercom Button to hear "Channel setting, 1".
- Navigate between channels by tapping the (+) Button or (-) Button.
- Save the channel by tapping the Mesh Intercom Button once. A voice prompt "Channel is set, channel #" will be heard.
Note: Channels are automatically saved after 10 seconds of inactivity and are remembered after powering off the headset. The Sena Motorcycles App can also be used to change channels.
7.5 Using Mesh in Group Mesh
7.5.1 Creating a Group Mesh
Creating a Group Mesh requires two or more Open Mesh users.

- To enter Mesh Grouping, press and hold the Mesh Intercom Button for 5 seconds on the headsets of users (You, B, and C). A voice prompt "Mesh grouping" will be heard.
- Upon completion, users will hear "Group Mesh" as Open Mesh switches to Group Mesh.
Note: If Mesh Grouping is not completed within 30 seconds, a "Grouping failed" prompt will be heard. Tap the Mesh Intercom Button to cancel.
7.5.2 Joining an Existing Group Mesh
One current user in an Existing Group Mesh can invite new users from Open Mesh.

- To enter Mesh Grouping, press and hold the Mesh Intercom Button for 5 seconds on the headsets of one current user (You) and the new users (D and F). A voice prompt "Mesh grouping" will be heard.
- Upon completion, the new users (D and F) will hear "Group Mesh" as Open Mesh switches to Group Mesh.
Note: If Mesh Grouping is not completed within 30 seconds, the current user will hear double beeps, and new users will hear "Grouping failed."
7.6 Enable/Disable Mic (Default: Enable)
Users can enable or disable the microphone during Mesh Intercom communication by tapping the Mesh Intercom Button.
7.7 Toggling Open Mesh/Group Mesh
Users can toggle between Open Mesh and Group Mesh without resetting the Mesh, preserving Group Mesh Network connection information.
Toggle Between Open Mesh and Group Mesh:
- Open Mesh: Press and hold the Mesh Intercom Button for 3 seconds. A voice prompt "Open Mesh" will be heard.
- Group Mesh: Press and hold the Mesh Intercom Button for 3 seconds. A voice prompt "Group Mesh" will be heard.
Note: If you have not participated in Group Mesh, you cannot toggle. A "No group available" prompt will be heard.
7.8 Mesh Reach-Out Request
You can send a request message to turn on Mesh Intercom for nearby friends who have it turned off.
- Enable Mesh Reach-Out in the Sena Motorcycles App (refer to Section 11.2: "Software Configuration Setting").
- While Mesh Intercom is on, send a request message using the headset's Button or the Sena Motorcycles App. A voice prompt "Mesh reach-out request" will be heard by the caller, and "Mesh intercom requested" by nearby friends.
- Friends receiving the request must manually turn on their Mesh Intercom using the headset's Button or the Sena Motorcycles App.
Note:
- Range is up to 109 yds (100 m) in open terrain.
- To use Mesh Reach-Out Request, both the sender and receiver must have the latest firmware and app versions.
7.9 Reset Mesh
If a headset resets the Mesh in Open Mesh or Group Mesh, it will automatically return to Open Mesh (default: channel 1).
Press and hold the Mesh Intercom Button for 8 seconds to reset the Mesh.
8. WAVE INTERCOM
Wave Intercom enables open communication using cellular data. Refer to the Wave Intercom User Guide on sena.com for details.
8.1 Starting Wave Intercom
Open the WAVE Intercom App, then double-tap the Mesh Intercom Button to join Wave Intercom. A voice prompt "Wave Intercom on" will be heard. Wave Intercom connects users in the Wave Zone (5-mile radius in North America, 8-km in Europe).
To end Wave Intercom, single-tap the Mesh Intercom Button. A voice prompt "Wave Intercom off" will be heard.
8.2 Switching between Wave Intercom and Mesh Intercom
Switch between Mesh Intercom and Wave Intercom with a single tap on the Center Button.
- Switching to Wave Intercom: "Mesh Intercom off. Wave Intercom on."
- Switching back: "Wave Intercom off. Mesh Intercom on."
Note: Bluetooth Intercom is temporarily disabled when the WAVE Intercom App is in use.
9. MESH AUDIO MULTITASKING (ALWAYS ON)
Audio Multitasking allows simultaneous intercom conversations and music listening. Overlaid audio plays at reduced volume during intercom conversations and returns to normal volume afterward.
Configure Audio Multitasking settings, including Intercom-Audio Overlay Sensitivity and Audio Overlay Volume Management, through the Software Configuration Setting in the Sena Motorcycles App.
10. FUNCTION PRIORITY AND FIRMWARE UPDATE
10.1 Function Priority
Functions are prioritized as follows:
- Highest: Mobile phone
- Middle: Mesh Intercom
- Lowest: Bluetooth stereo music
Lower-priority functions are interrupted by higher-priority ones (e.g., music interrupted by a phone call).
10.2 Firmware Update
Update firmware Over-the-Air (OTA) via the Sena Motorcycles App or the SPIDER Updater Software by connecting the SPIDER RT1 to a PC. Download the SPIDER Updater Software at sena.com.
11. CONFIGURATION SETTING
11.1 Headset Configuration Menu
Access the Configuration Menu: Press and hold the Center Button for 10 seconds.
Navigate Between Menu Options: Tap the (+) Button or (-) Button.
Execute Menu Options: Tap the Center Button.

11.1.1 Remote Control Pairing
Remotely control the headset using Sena Remote Control devices (sold separately).
- Turn on the headset and the Remote Control device.
- Execute Remote Control Pairing.
- Enter pairing mode on the Remote Control device. The headset will automatically connect.
11.2 Software Configuration Setting
Change headset settings through the Sena Motorcycles App.
11.2.1 Language
Select the device language. The selected language is maintained even after rebooting the headset.
11.2.2 Mesh Reach-Out (Default: Disable)
When enabled, Mesh Reach-Out allows sending and receiving request messages. When disabled, these messages cannot be sent or received.
11.2.3 Equalizer (Default: Off)
Adjust the decibel level of different audio frequency ranges:
- Balance: Adjusts all frequency ranges to the same volume level (0 dB).
- Bass Boost: Increases the bass range (20 Hz - 250 Hz).
- Mid Boost: Increases the mid range (250 Hz - 4 kHz).
- Treble Boost: Increases the high range (4 kHz - 20 kHz).
11.2.4 VOX Phone (Default: Enable)
When enabled, answer incoming calls by voice (e.g., saying "Hello" or blowing air into the microphone). VOX Phone is temporarily disabled during intercom connections. If disabled, answer calls by tapping the Center Button.
11.2.5 VOX Sensitivity (Default: 3)
Adjust VOX Phone sensitivity. Level 5 is the highest sensitivity, and Level 1 is the lowest.
11.2.6 Intercom-Audio Overlay Sensitivity (Default: 3)
Music volume lowers during intercom conversations. Adjust intercom sensitivity to activate this mode. Level 1 has the lowest sensitivity, and Level 5 has the highest.
Note: If your voice is not louder than the selected sensitivity level, the overlaid audio will not be lowered.
11.2.7 Audio Overlay Volume Management (Default: Disable)
Music overlaid audio volume reduces during ongoing intercom conversations. If enabled, the overlaid audio volume will not be reduced.
11.2.8 Voice Prompt (Default: Enable)
Voice Prompts can be disabled via software settings, but some prompts (headset configuration, battery level, speed dial) are always active.
11.2.9 Advanced Noise Control (Always On)
Background noise is reduced during intercom conversations.
12. TROUBLESHOOTING

12.1 Fault Reset
If the headset is not working properly, perform a fault reset:
- Locate the Pinhole Fault Reset Button at the bottom of the main unit.
- Gently insert a paperclip into the hole and tap the button with light pressure. The headset will shut down.
Note: Fault Reset does not restore factory default settings.
12.2 Factory Reset
To erase all settings and restore factory defaults:
- Access the Configuration Menu by pressing and holding the Center Button for 10 seconds.
- Select "Factory reset" by tapping the (-) Button twice.
- Confirm the reset by tapping the Center Button once. A "Headset reset, good-bye" prompt will be heard.
