This is a general guide to show you how simple it is to install an em-trak AIS transceiver. If you have any questions at any time you can contact our team at support@em-trak.com.
Installation Steps
Step 1: Mounting the Transceiver
No screws are required for the bracket. Use the provided bracket to fit the AIS transceiver into a convenient storage or utility area.
Step 2: Connecting the Transceiver
Connect the AIS transceiver to your VHF radio, VHF antenna, and power source. The AIS unit has internal GPS, so if you install it near a window, under a fibreglass deck, or inside a centre console, you will not need an external GPS antenna.
Step 3: Powering On and Programming
Switch on the power and use the CONNECT-AIS app or PROAIS2 PC Software to program the AIS with your vessel information.
Step 4: Viewing AIS Data
See AIS targets and information on your chartplotter, smartphone, or other wireless devices.
Key Features & Benefits
- AIS starts up automatically every time the engine starts.
- Wireless connection to your phone and any other display device, such as a chart plotter.
- View all AIS targets and vessel information.
System Diagram
The system involves connecting the em-trak AIS transceiver to a VHF antenna, VHF radio, and a chartplotter. It also connects to an existing power system fuse/junc box. The transceiver communicates wirelessly (WiFi/Bluetooth) with smartphones or other wireless display devices, and also via NMEA0183 & NMEA2000 protocols.
A typical setup shows the AIS transceiver mounted on a boat, connected to the VHF antenna and the electrical junction box. The transceiver then transmits data wirelessly to a smartphone displaying vessel information (e.g., SY MARISOTA, Pleasure vessel, SOG, COG, MMSI, LAT, LON) and also to a chartplotter.
