Settings
The machine you have purchased can make settings to allow you to use it optimally.
Saeco Adapting System
Coffee is a natural product, and its characteristics can vary depending on its origin, blend, and roast. The Saeco coffee machine is equipped with a self-adapting system that allows you to use any type of coffee bean available on the market (non-caramelized).
The machine automatically adjusts itself to optimize coffee extraction, ensuring perfect tamping of the puck to prepare a creamy espresso that releases all the aromas, regardless of the type of coffee used.
The optimization process is the result of the machine's learning. This learning process requires dispensing a certain number of coffees to allow the machine to adjust the powder compaction.
Attention: Some particular blends may require adjusting the grinder settings to optimize coffee extraction (see the "Grinding Coffee" section).
Grinding Coffee Adjustment
Attention! Gently turn the grind adjustment knob located inside the coffee bean hopper only when the coffee grinder is running. Do not introduce ground or instant coffee into the coffee bean hopper.
It is forbidden to introduce anything other than coffee beans. The coffee grinder has moving parts that can be dangerous; do not insert your fingers or other objects. The knob can only be used to adjust the grind degree. Turn off the machine and unplug it before intervening for any reason inside the coffee bean hopper. Do not pour coffee beans while the coffee grinder is running.
The machine allows you to slightly adjust the grind degree to suit the type of coffee used.
The adjustment should be made using the knob inside the coffee bean hopper; press the knob and turn it.
Press and turn the knob one notch at a time and dispense 2 or 3 coffees: this is the only way to notice the change in grind degree. The references inside the hopper indicate the set grind degree; it is possible to set 5 different grind degrees with the following references:
Reference Grande - Coarse Grind
Reference Petite - Fine Grind.
Coffee Length Adjustment
The machine allows you to adjust the dispensed coffee quantity according to your personal taste and/or the size of your cups.
Each time you press and release the "P" or "MEMO" buttons, the machine dispenses a programmed quantity of coffee, as per factory settings. This quantity can be reprogrammed to your liking. Dispensing of coffee is associated with each button; each dispensing occurs independently.
As an example, here is the programming for the "P" button, which normally corresponds to espresso coffee.
Place a cup under the dispensing nozzle.
Press and hold the "P" button for 5 seconds to enter programming mode; the "P" button flashes with the display LEDs, and coffee preparation begins; this indication continues throughout the cycle.
When the desired coffee quantity is reached, press the "P" button again.
The "P" button is now programmed; each time you press and release it, the machine will dispense the quantity you just programmed.
Stand-by
The machine has been designed for energy saving. After 60 minutes of the last use, the machine turns off automatically. When the machine is in stand-by, the "O" button flashes.
Note: During the shutdown phase, the machine performs a rinsing cycle if a coffee product has been dispensed. Attention: when starting the machine after a complete shutdown, the machine is in Stand-by position.
To restart the machine, simply press the STAND-BY button (if the main switch is on "I"); in this case, the machine will rinse only if the boiler has cooled down.
Coffee Dispensing
Note: If the machine does not dispense coffee, check that the water tank is full.
Before dispensing coffee, check that the water tank and coffee bean hopper are full, and observe the signals on the display and control panel.
Leave the selector in the coffee position "P" during the dispensing phase.
Before dispensing coffee, adjust the height of the coffee dispenser to your liking and select the aroma or pre-ground coffee.
Dispenser Adjustment
With the coffee machine, you can use most large/small cups available on the market.
The dispenser can be adjusted in height to better adapt to the size of the cups you wish to use.
To make this adjustment, lift or lower the dispenser manually by placing your fingers as shown in the figure.
The positions are recommended for:
- Using small cups.
- Using large cups.
It is possible to place two large/small cups under the dispenser to dispense two coffees at the same time.
"Aroma" Adjustment
The machine has been designed to allow you to adjust the ground coffee quantity from 7 g to 10.5 g per coffee.
By pressing and releasing the "P" button, four selections are possible (light, medium, strong, pre-ground). The selection is possible when the beans are displayed; each time you press or release the "P" button, the aroma changes by one degree:
- Light Aroma
- Medium Aroma
- Strong Aroma
The selection must be made before selecting the coffee. This way, you determine the flavor intensity according to your personal taste.
After selecting "strong aroma", the function for dispensing coffee with pre-ground coffee is selected. This selection is indicated by the adjacent symbol.
For this function, consult the corresponding section.
With Coffee Beans
To dispense coffee, press and release:
- The "P" button to select the desired Aroma.
- The "P" button to obtain an espresso coffee.
- The "MEMO" button to obtain a long coffee.
The dispensing cycle then starts:
- To dispense 1 coffee, press the "P" or "MEMO" button once; the pressed button remains lit steadily.
- To dispense 2 coffees, press the "P" or "MEMO" button twice in succession; the pressed button flashes rapidly.
For dispensing 2 coffees, the machine automatically grinds and doses the correct amount of coffee. Preparing two coffees requires two grinding cycles and two dispensing cycles managed automatically by the machine.
After the pre-infusion cycle is complete, the coffee begins to flow from the dispensing nozzle.
Coffee dispensing will stop automatically when the set level is reached; however, it is possible to interrupt dispensing by pressing the previously activated button.
Pre-ground Coffee
Note:
- If pre-ground coffee has not been placed in its compartment, the machine will dispense only water.

Steam / Cappuccino Dispensing
Steam can be used to emulsify milk, for cappuccinos, but also to heat beverages.
Burn Hazard! There may be some hot water splashes at the beginning of dispensing. The dispensing tube can reach high temperatures: avoid direct contact with hands.
Important Note: Immediately clean the steam nozzle (or Pannarello, if present) after using steam for milk emulsification. When the machine is ready, dispense a small amount of hot water into a glass and clean the external part of the steam nozzle (or Pannarello, if present). This ensures perfect cleaning of all parts of the machine, removing any residual milk.
- Fill a container 1/3 full with cold milk to prepare cappuccino.
- For optimal results in cappuccino preparation, use cold milk from the refrigerator.
- Immerse the steam nozzle (Pannarello, if present) in the milk to be heated.
- Turn the selector counter-clockwise to the "P" position; slowly move the container from bottom to top to ensure uniform foam formation.
- After dispensing steam for the desired time, turn the selector clockwise and return it to the "U" position to stop steam dispensing.
- Proceed in the same way to heat other beverages.
- After using the steam nozzle (Pannarello, if present), wash it as described in the "Cleaning and Maintenance" section.

Notes on Descaling
The previous section provided an explanation of the correct procedure for descaling the machine.
This machine is equipped with advanced software that checks the amount of water used to provide precise indications on the possible need for descaling.
This software has been set for standard water hardness. In special cases, water may be very hard (high calcium content); this may lead to the need for more frequent descaling, even if the appliance does not show any display signal.
Even if the machine is used infrequently (e.g., one coffee per day), it is advisable to perform a descaling cycle more frequently.
In special cases, it is advisable to perform a descaling cycle every 1-2 months, even if the machine does not signal it.
22 Keep the "P" button pressed for 6 seconds to reset the machine and clear the descaling alarm. The "P" LED turns off. Reassemble the outer part of the Pannarello. The descaling cycle is finished. You can then dispense products.
In case the machine is turned off during the descaling cycle, the cycle must be repeated entirely upon restarting the machine.
The descaling solution must be disposed of in accordance with the producer's instructions and/or the regulations in force in the country where the machine is used.
Once the descaling cycle is complete, proceed to wash the brew group as described in the "Brew Group" section of the "Cleaning and Maintenance" chapter.
