Introduction

The Aeotec Smart Switch 6 is a low-cost Z-Wave® plug-in module designed to enable Z-Wave command and control (on/off) for any plug-in appliance. It can report immediate wattage consumption or kWh energy usage over time. Non-volatile memory retains operating status during power failures.

The device features a Smart RGB LED on its surface, which can indicate the output load status or wireless signal strength. The LED color can be configured to the user's preference.

The Smart Switch 6 is a security Z-Wave device and supports Over The Air (OTA) firmware upgrades.

Familiarize Yourself with Your Smart Switch

The Smart Switch 6 features:

Quick Start: Linking to Your Z-Wave Network

Getting your Smart Switch operational involves plugging it in and linking it to your Z-Wave network. The following instructions detail linking with an Aeotec Z-Stick or Minimote controller. For other Z-Wave controllers, consult their respective manuals for adding new devices.

Using a Z-Stick:

  1. Place the Smart Switch where desired and plug it into a wall outlet. The RGB LED will blink when the Action Button is pressed.
  2. If your Z-Stick is connected to a gateway or computer, unplug it.
  3. Bring your Z-Stick close to your Smart Switch.
  4. Press the Action Button on your Z-Stick.
  5. Press the Action Button on your Smart Switch.
  6. Successful linking is indicated when the Smart Switch's RGB LED stops blinking. If it continues blinking, repeat from step 4.
  7. Press the Action Button on the Z-Stick to exit inclusion mode and reconnect it to your gateway or computer.

Using a Minimote:

  1. Place the Smart Switch where desired and plug it into a wall socket. The RGB LED will blink when the Action Button is pressed.
  2. Bring your Minimote close to your Smart Switch.
  3. Press the 'Include' button on your Minimote.
  4. Press the Action Button on your Smart Switch.
  5. Successful linking is indicated when the Smart Switch's RGB LED stops blinking. If it continues blinking, repeat from step 4.
  6. Press any button on your Minimote to exit inclusion mode.

Once connected, configure the Smart Switch through your home control software. Refer to your software's user guide for specific instructions.

RGB LED Indication (Energy Mode)

The RGB LED color changes based on the output load power level when in Energy mode:

The brightness of the RGB LED can also be configured for Energy mode, Momentary Indicate mode, or Night Light mode.

Removing Your Smart Switch from a Z-Wave Network

To remove the Smart Switch from your Z-Wave network, use your main Z-Wave controller. Instructions for Aeotec Z-Stick and Minimote are provided below. For other controllers, consult their manuals.

Using a Z-Stick:

  1. Unplug your Z-Stick if it's connected to a gateway or computer.
  2. Bring your Z-Stick close to your Smart Switch.
  3. Press the Action Button on your Z-Stick.
  4. Press the Action Button on your Smart Switch.
  5. Successful removal is confirmed when the Smart Switch's RGB LED blinks upon pressing the Action Button. If it does not blink, the removal was unsuccessful.
  6. Press the Action Button on the Z-Stick to exit removal mode.

Using a Minimote:

  1. Bring your Minimote close to your Smart Switch.
  2. Press the 'Remove' button on your Minimote.
  3. Press the Action Button on your Smart Switch.
  4. Successful removal is confirmed when the Smart Switch's RGB LED blinks upon pressing the Action Button. If it does not blink, the removal was unsuccessful.
  5. Press any button on your Minimote to exit removal mode.

Advanced Functions

Changing LED Mode

The LED behavior can be changed through configuration. There are three modes:

Security or Non-Security Feature

To include the Smart Switch as a non-security device, press the Action Button once during network inclusion with your controller/gateway.

To utilize the Smart Switch's full functionality as a security device with encrypted communication, a security-enabled controller/gateway is required. Press the Smart Switch's Action Button twice within 1 second when your security controller/gateway initiates network inclusion.

Reset Your Smart Switch

If your primary controller is lost or inoperable, you can reset the Smart Switch to factory defaults. Press and hold the Action Button for 20 seconds, then release. The RGB LED will be solid for 2 seconds, then start slow blinking to confirm the reset.

Warranty and Compliance

Aeon Labs warrants the Products to the original purchaser against material defects for 12 months from the delivery date, provided proper installation and maintenance. Claims must be made in writing within thirty (30) days of problem manifestation. Aeon Labs' obligation is limited to repair, replacement, or refund at their option.

The warranty excludes damage from accidents, misuse, negligence, power issues, or unauthorized modifications. Aeon Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
