Product Overview

The Veepeak OBDCheck VP01 is an easy-to-use, inexpensive, and small OBD2 device that turns your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet into a sophisticated diagnostic scan tool and real-time parameter monitor. Read and clear trouble codes, reset the Check Engine light, and display live sensor readings with the use of a downloaded OBD2 App such as OBD Fusion (iOS) or Torque (Android). The adapter works on OBD II compliant vehicles and is a very useful little gadget that will save your time and money.

Not all trouble codes can be read as OBD2 is primarily designed for engine diagnostics system. Other systems like ABS, SRS, VSC, TPMS etc. use different protocols to communicate, so check the app capabilities. Generally, what you can do with the device depends on what features the app provides.

3. Setup Instructions

1. Download and install the App of your choice according to your phone OS (see compatible app list in Part IV).
2. Plug in the device into the OBD2 port and make sure it fits well (no visible indicator, it should feel warm after a while).
3. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (or start the engine). For Push Button Start vehicles, press the button once or twice without putting your foot on the brake pedal (check your car manual).
4. Enable WiFi on your device, find WiFi named "WiFi OBDII" and connect with it.
5. Run the APP, make any necessary app settings, and connect.

App Settings Examples:

• OBD Fusion (iOS): Settings > Preferences > Communications: Select "WiFi".
• CAR SCANNER ELM OBD2 (iOS & Android): Settings > Connection > Connection type: WiFi.
• DashCommand (iOS): Settings > Interface Type: ELM.
• Torque (Android): Settings > OBD2 Adapter Setting > Connection Type: WiFi. Quit and restart the App.
• Other apps should have similar settings (select WiFi connection type).

5. FAQs and Troubleshooting

1. Is an app required?
   An OBD2 app is required to work with the adapter. The functions you can get mainly depend on the app you use. It requires download from Google Play Store or App Store, and some may need separate purchase.
2. Can I leave the scanner plugged in all the time?
   Because the OBD2 port is always powered, the scanner will have power consumption when the vehicle is turned off. Therefore, it is suggested to remove it from the OBD port if it is not in use. In addition, for long sessions of use (especially on vehicles with old batteries), start the vehicle during use.
3. WiFi_OBDII is not showing up on my phone's WiFi list.
   Check if the unit gets warm after being plugged in. If not, check if the cigar fuse of your vehicle is in good condition. You can also try with another vehicle to verify.
4. App not connecting to OBD-II adapter.
   Check the app compatibility first. Then make sure "WiFi_OBDII" is connected with your phone and you have made the required App connection setting. Forget the WiFi and re-connect again. For Torque, please close the app after changing the connection setting and restart.
5. Cannot connect to vehicle/ECU.
   Verify if your vehicle is OBD2 compliant. Make sure the ignition key is ON or start the vehicle to try. Then try it on another vehicle.
6. Can it reset my ABS, airbag, and other non-Check Engine lights?
   Most OBD2 Apps only provide basic check engine light diagnostics. You will need a specific App that can do diagnostics on these modules for your specific vehicle. Contact Veepeak or the app developer if you are not sure. Oil change or maintenance required lights cannot be read or reset since there is no error code for them.
7. Which sensor data can I get?
   Readable parameters depend on what is installed on the OBDII system by the manufacturer. Generally, newer vehicles will give more readings and faster refresh speed. Some parameters like transmission temp are manufacturer-specific, and you may need to add custom PIDs.
8. The adapter does not fit into the recessed area to be plugged into or is hard to plug in and out.
   Use Veepeak's OBD2 extension cable (search for "Veepeak OBD2 extension cable" on Amazon).
