Thank you for choosing the Peachtree Audio Carina!
Carina is an integrated amplifier designedto please your eyes and ears. Housed in a beautiful chassis crafted of aluminum and wood, Carina is several audio components in one; Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC), preamplifier, power amplifier and a premium headphone amplifier.
Carina includes several digital audio inputsfor multiple sources; USB-B for a computer, Bluetooth for wireless devices, two coaxial inputs and one optical input for a streamer, CD transport or other legacy devices. And it even has an I2S input for devices that offer that type of output. Carina includes a variable stereo analog output for integration with subwoofer(s) or an external power amplifier. Additionally, a USB-C port is provided to power, or charge, an external device as needed.
Internally, Carina features a 32-bit architecture that is capable of handling all of the major digital audio formats available today including; compressed audio, uncompressed audio, high-resolution audio and ultra-high resolution audio all the way up to 24-bit/768kHz PCM and octuple rate DSD (DSD512)! Carina utilize two separate ESS 9068 DAC chips in "mono mode" with one dedicated to converting the left channel and the other the right channel. The 9068 is widely regarded as one of the best DACs available today and has an extremely neutral, transparent and musical presentation. By dedicating one DAC to each channel, the signal-to-noise ratio, dynamic range and channel separation of the system are maximized. Carina also offers DAC filter and other adjustments to fine-tune the sound to your system and liking.
The Hypex NCORE power amplifier section inCarina is one of the cleanest, neutral, and most powerful ones available today. It is capable of driving speakers with nominal impedances between 2.5 to 16 and delivers an impressive 300 Watts-Per-Channel (WPC) into 8 ohms. Carina has ample power to properly drive the majority of speakers available today to their full potential while delivering deep, tight bass and transparent, natural upper frequencies without inducing listener fatigue.
Carina features a premium-quality, fully-balanced headphone amplifier design that provides an exceptional listening experience when listening to headphones. It has an extremely low noise floor so the music comes through clearly and free from artifacts. The HP amplifier includes a traditional unbalanced output anda balanced output to drive headphones that can accept that type of drive. The headphone amplifier in Carina is designed to compare favorably to stand-alone headphone amplifiers.
Please familiarize yourself with all of the features of Carina to get the most out of your system. While enjoying Carina, please visitwww.peachtreeaudio.com to register your unit. MENU
1 PCM filter----L-FAST, H-FAST, M-SLOW L-FAST is a Linear phase FAST roll-off filter. It is the most common type of digital filter and is the most accurate and neutral acoustically. H-FAST is a Hybrid FAST roll-off filter. The length of the pre-ringing is shorter and more consistent than the length of the post-ringing which is more like musical instruments. M-SLOW is a Minimum phase SLOW roll-off filter. It has smooth signal out-of-band attenuation characteristics, and because of its in-band attenuation characteristics, it has a smoother overall sound.
Each filter has an objective (measurable) and subjective (audible to most) effect on the sound. We encourage people to audition all three filters to determine the one that sounds the best to them. Most people will experience the differences in high-frequency reproduction where they are more readily heard. There is no "right" or "wrong" answer here, its all about personal preference, room acoustics and the characteristics of your speakers...
2 NOS MODE ON bypasses the oversampling feature in the DAC, sending the original digital signal straight to the modulator. This mode is useful if you want to experiment with any software-based oversampling features in products like Roon, etc. OFF engages the 8x oversampling feature in the DAC.
3 BT POWER BT INPUT powers up the Bluetooth input receiver only when the unit is on and the Bluetooth input is selected. ALWAYS keep the Bluetooth receiver powered up regardless of input selection.
4 VOLUME DIGITAL - Uses a digital volume control. ANALOG - Uses an analog level control. This volume control utilizes relays for optimal performance. There will be some clicking sounds from inside the unit when the relays switch as well as some audible noise that can be heard through the speakers at certain level changes. This is normal and expected behavior for this type of volume control and will not damage anything.
5 DISPLAY ALWAYS keeps the display on whenever the unit is on. AUTO OFF turns the display off after several seconds.
6 BRIGHTNESS "8" is the brightest setting for the front panel display. "1" is the dimmest.

7 TRIGGER SEL INPUTS & LAST The 12V trigger can be set to select one of the specific INPUTS or to select the LAST input used when the unit was put into standby.
8 [SOURCE] VOLUME This feature allows you to set the beginning starting point for the volume level for each input independently. Push the right knob to select the input to affect. Rotate the right knob to change the initial volume setting for THAT input. LAST sets the volume to the LAST level used when the unit was put into standby. -20, -35, -50 sets the volume level to these specific values. FIXED sets the unit to 0dB FS (full) gain (please use with extreme caution!).
9 INPUT 12S, COAX-1, COAX-2, OPT These inputs can be renamed: CD, SACD, TV, STREAM, or AUX. The USB and Bluetooth inputs can NOT be re-named.
