Installation

The installation process involves connecting valves and AC power, installing station modules, and optionally connecting a battery, master valve, pump start relay, or weather sensor. The SRR or ICR Remote Control System can also be connected via a SmartPort® wiring harness.

Connecting Valves and AC Power

Route valve wires from control valves to the controller. Connect a common wire to all valve solenoids and individual control wires to each valve. Ensure all splices use waterproof connectors. Route valve wires through the conduit and connect them to the appropriate station terminals on the controller. For AC power, route the cable through the designated conduit opening and connect wires to the transformer terminals inside the junction box (outdoor) or to the AC screws (indoor). It is recommended that a licensed electrician perform the power installation.

Connecting Station Modules

The Pro-C comes with a base module for up to 3 stations. Additional 3-station (PCM-300) or 9-station (PCM-900) modules can be added to reach 15 stations. Modules are recognized automatically by the controller's firmware (for models manufactured after Nov. 2003). An Easy-Lock™ feature secures modules firmly.

Connecting the Battery (Optional)

A 9-volt battery can be installed to allow programming without AC power. The battery is not required for program retention due to non-volatile memory.

Connecting a Master Valve

Connect the common wire to one solenoid wire of the master valve and a control wire to the other. Route these wires to the controller and connect them to the P/MV and C (Common) terminals.

Connecting a Pump Start Relay

Mount the controller at least 15 feet (4.5 m) away from the pump start relay and pump. Connect a wire pair from the pump relay to the controller, with the common wire to the C (Common) terminal and the pump relay wire to the P/MV screw slot. Note: Relay holding current must not exceed 0.28 amps.

Connecting a Weather Sensor

A micro-switch type weather sensor (e.g., Hunter Mini-Clik™) can be connected to the SEN terminals. Remove the jumper from the SEN terminals and connect the sensor wires. A bypass switch on the controller allows manual override of the sensor.

Connecting an SRR or ICR Remote Control

Utilize the SRR SmartPort® wiring harness for remote control compatibility. Install a 1/2" female threaded "Tee" in the field wiring conduit. Feed the harness wires (red, white, blue) through the "Tee" and connect them to the controller's terminal block (red to AC1, white to AC2, blue to REM). Extensions of the SmartPort wiring should use shielded cable to minimize interference.

Power Failures: The controller's non-volatile memory preserves programs during power outages.

Programming

The Pro-C controller features an intuitive dial design and a clear LCD display for easy programming. It supports up to three programs (A, B, C) with multiple start times and flexible day scheduling options.

Programming the Controller

The dial controls access to various programming functions. Flashing elements on the LCD indicate the item currently being programmed. Use the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons for adjustments, and the arrow (→) button to move between fields or options.

Setting the Current Date and Time

Navigate the dial to "SET CURRENT DATE/TIME". Use the +/- buttons to set the year, month, day, and time (AM/PM or 24-hour format). The arrow button confirms each setting and moves to the next.

Setting Watering Start Times

Turn the dial to "SET WATERING START TIMES". Select program A, B, or C if needed. Use +/- buttons to set the start time (in 15-minute increments). One start time activates all stations sequentially within that program.

Eliminating a Program Start Time

To disable a program, set the dial to "SET WATERING START TIMES", use +/- buttons to reach 12:00 AM (Midnight), then press the arrow button to reach the "OFF" position.

Setting Station Run Times

Turn the dial to "SET STATION RUN TIMES". Select the program (A, B, or C) and station. Use +/- buttons to set the run time for each station (from 1 minute to 6 hours). Press the arrow button to advance to the next station.

Setting Days to Water

Turn the dial to "SET DAYS TO WATER". Choose from four options: specific days of the week, 1-31 day interval watering, odd days, or even days. Each program can use only one type of water day option.

  • Specific Days: Press buttons to mark days for watering (indicated by 'A') or no watering (indicated by a blank).
  • Interval Watering: Set an interval (e.g., every 2 days) and the number of days remaining until the next watering.
  • Odd or Even Days: Select "ODD" or "EVEN" as "No Water Days" to water only on the opposite type of days in the month. The 31st and Feb 29th are automatically "off" days if "Odd" watering is selected.

Weather Sensor Bypass

A physical switch on the controller allows bypassing the rain sensor if needed. The display shows "SENSOR OFF" when bypassed.

Run

Turn the dial to "RUN" to enable automatic execution of all programmed schedules.

System Off

Turning the dial to "SYSTEM OFF" shuts off all watering. Return the dial to "RUN" for normal operation.

Manually Run a Single Station

Turn the dial to "MANUAL-SINGLE STATION". Use +/- buttons to select the station and run time. Turn the dial to "RUN" to start the station.

Manually Run All Stations

Turn the dial to "MANUAL-ALL STATIONS". Select program A, B, or C. Use +/- buttons to set the starting station and run time for each station. Return the dial to "RUN" to start.

One Touch Manual Start and Advance

Hold the button for 2 seconds to activate stations without the dial. Select program A, B, or C, then use +/- buttons to scroll through stations and adjust run times.

Seasonal Adjustment

Use the +/- buttons to globally adjust run times by 10% to 150% to compensate for weather changes. The LCD displays the current percentage.
