Sonos Arc Premium Smart Soundbar
The Sonos Arc is a premium smart soundbar designed for an immersive audio experience with TV, movies, and music. It offers Dolby Atmos for spacious 3D sound, seamless music streaming, and effortless setup.
Overview
The Sonos Arc delivers a premium audio experience, featuring:

Controls and Lights
The Sonos Arc features intuitive touch controls:
- Volume control: Located on the right (up) and left (down) sides. Tap for small adjustments or hold for quick volume changes. Volume can also be controlled via the Sonos app, voice commands, or TV remote.
- Play/Pause: Tap to play or pause sound.
- Next/Previous (music only): Swipe right to skip to the next song, swipe left to go to the previous song. Note: This function is not available for radio stations.
- Microphone: Tap to turn the microphone on or off. A light indicates when voice control is active. If the microphone is off, voice control is disabled, but voice commands can still be used by pressing and holding the microphone button.
- Status light: Indicates the product's WiFi connection, muted volume, and errors. This light can be turned off in settings.
Connector Panel
The connector panel on the Sonos Arc includes:
- HDMI port: For connecting to your TV.
- Join button: Used during setup.
- Ethernet port: For a wired connection to your router or network-attached storage (optional).
- AC power (mains) input: Use the supplied power cord.
Select a Location
The Sonos Arc can be wall-mounted or placed on a TV stand.
TV Stand Placement:
- Place horizontally on a stable, level surface.
- Maintain a minimum of 4 inches (102mm) space between the soundbar and the bottom of your TV.
- Do not place vertically or on its side.
- Ensure touch controls face upwards.
Wall Mount:
Use a compatible wall mount, such as the custom-designed Sonos Arc Wall Mount (sold separately). Follow the specific instructions provided with the mount.
Connect the Cables
Before connecting:
- Disconnect existing home theater or surround sound equipment.
- Connect external devices directly to your TV.
- Turn on your TV.
- Connect the power cord and plug in the soundbar. Use only the supplied power cord.
- Connect the HDMI cable (included) to the soundbar's HDMI port.
- Connecting to your TV:
- If your TV has an HDMI ARC (or eARC) port, connect the HDMI cable directly to it. The ARC port is usually labeled. Connecting to a standard HDMI port will result in no sound.
- If your TV lacks an HDMI ARC or eARC port, use the included optical adapter. Remove the protective cap, attach the adapter to the HDMI cable, and connect it to your TV's optical digital OUT port. Ensure correct alignment to avoid damage.
Voice Services
Control your Sonos system using voice commands with compatible voice services:
- Sonos Voice Control: Offers hands-free control with privacy.
- Amazon Alexa: Requires the Sonos app and Alexa app with the Sonos skill enabled.
- Google Assistant: Requires the Sonos app and Google Assistant app.
- Siri: Use the Apple Home app to add AirPlay2-compatible Sonos speakers and ask Siri to play music (currently limited to Apple Music).
Note: Voice control availability may vary by region.
Microphone on/off
The microphone is used for voice control and features like Trueplay tuning. Press the microphone button to toggle it on or off. The LED light indicates the microphone status.
- Microphone light on: Voice control is active and ready; Trueplay is available.
- Microphone light off: Voice control is off; Trueplay is unavailable.
Trueplay™
Trueplay tuning optimizes sound based on your room's acoustics. It works with iOS devices (iOS 8 or later). During tuning, you will move around the room with your mobile device.
- Navigate to Settings > System and select the room to tune.
- Choose Trueplay Tuning.
Note: VoiceOver must be turned off on your iOS device for Trueplay tuning.
Auto Trueplay
Portable Sonos products (like Sonos Roam and Move) can automatically tune themselves using their microphones to adapt to the environment.
Product Settings
Customize your Sonos products via the Sonos app:
- Room Name: Rename your speaker in Settings if moved to a new room.
- Turn off WiFi: Disable WiFi when connected via Ethernet to reduce power consumption and improve connectivity for wired speakers.
- EQ: Adjust sound settings (bass, treble, balance, loudness) to your preference.
- Trueplay: Adapts sound to surroundings; portable products tune automatically.
- Volume Limit: Set a maximum volume for each room.
- Status Light: Control the visibility of the status light.
- Touch Controls: Disable touch controls to prevent accidental adjustments.
- Battery Saver (portable products): Set portable speakers to power off automatically to save battery.
- Line-In (products with line-in capability): Connect audio devices like turntables or stereos to compatible Sonos products (Amp, Port, Five) and manage settings like source name and autoplay.
Home theater
Enhance your TV audio with a home theater system by adding rear surrounds and a Sub. Use the Sonos app to adjust settings.
- TV Dialog Sync: Adjust audio delay for synchronized audio and video.
- Group Audio Delay: Address audio issues when playing to a group.
- TV Autoplay: Automatically switches audio to TV when the TV is turned on. Can be turned off.
- Ungroup on Autoplay: Automatically removes the home theater speaker from groups when the TV is turned on. Can be turned off.
- Speech enhancement: Improves TV dialogue clarity.
- Night sound: Reduces the intensity of loud sounds while enhancing quiet ones.
- Remote Control Setup: Program a TV remote for control.
Set up surrounds
Create a home theater experience by setting up two Sonos speakers as separate right and left channels.
- Position surround speakers approximately 10ft from the listening position, angled towards the seating area.
- Navigate to Settings > System.
- Select a room with a soundbar and choose Add Surrounds.
Note: Grouping rooms or creating a stereo pair will disable surround sound.
Surround audio settings
Adjustable settings include:
- Surrounds: Turn surround sound On or Off.
- TV Level: Adjust surround volume for TV audio.
- Music Level: Adjust surround volume for music.
- Music Playback: Choose between Ambient (subtle) or Full (louder) for music playback (not applicable to Dolby Atmos Music).

Wall mount
Guidelines:
- Use the Sonos Arc wall mount kit (sold separately) and follow its instructions.
- Maintain 4.0" (102 mm) space between the Arc/Arc SL and your TV.
- Ensure touch controls face upwards.
- Keep both ends of the soundbar at least 1' (30cm) from walls or obstructions for optimal sound quality.

Installation Steps:
- If your TV is wall-mounted, place the positioning guide against the wall, aligning its top edge with the bottom of your TV. Ensure 5.5" (140mm) between the top of the wall mount bracket and the TV.
- Mark screw locations and remove the guide.
- For wall anchors, use a 5/16" drill bit for pilot holes. Do not use anchors for wood or plastic.
- Position the wall mount bracket over the marked locations, using a level for accuracy. Screw the bracket to the wall with a Phillips-head screwdriver or power drill, ensuring arrows point up.
- Screw the 2 knobs into the back of the soundbar until fully tightened.
- Connect the power and HDMI cables to the soundbar. If connecting to the TV now, ensure the HDMI cable is plugged into the TV's HDMI ARC or eARC port.
- Slide the soundbar down so the knobs fit into the wall bracket slots. Ensure touch controls face up and the soundbar is fully seated.
