ABB Drive Connectivity Control Panel Quick Start-up Guide

ABB Drive Connectivity Control Panel Quick Start-up Guide

Introduction

The ABB Drive Connectivity Control Panel is an intelligent wireless Human-Machine Interface (HMI) designed for ABB drives, featuring integrated cloud connectivity. It utilizes a built-in wireless communication module and data encryption to upload drive operation data and events to the cloud in real time. This allows customers to monitor drive status, events, and historical data from anywhere via a website, receiving timely notifications for drive failures.

Additionally, this control panel enables the "Mobile Connect for Drives" remote assistance service, embedded within the Drivetune App. This service provides users with fast support from ABB drive experts, helping to minimize unplanned downtime and improve overall machine operation efficiency.

This guide details how to use the ABB Drive Connectivity Control Panel to implement condition monitoring and remote assistance for drives.

How to Establish Cloud Connection and View Operation Condition

Step 1: Installation

To attach the control panel:

  1. Place the bottom end of the control panel into the slot at the bottom of the drive (A).
  2. Pivot the control panel and push the upper part (B) until a click is heard.

To detach the control panel:

  1. Release the control panel by pressing the clip (B).
  2. Pull the upper end of the control panel out of the drive slot.

Step 2: Configuration of Cloud Connectivity

This section guides users through commissioning cloud connectivity for the first time, using the ACS880 drive as an example. Functions beyond cloud connectivity are consistent with the ACS-AP-x assistant control panel.

How to Set ABB Drive Connectivity Control Panel

Cloud Status:

  1. Press the [Back] key to return to the "Connectivity setting" view.
  2. Press the [Select] key to enter the "Cloud status" option to check the connection status. A change from "offline" to "online" indicates successful connection to the cloud platform.

Note: The initial connection may take 1-3 minutes for device provisioning and data exchange with the cloud backend.

Signal Strength:

  1. Press the [Back] key to return to the "Connectivity setting" view.
  2. Press the [Select] key to enter the "Signal strength" option to check the cloud connection signal strength.

There are four states: strong, weak, medium, and no signal.

Record Serial Number:

  1. In the Menu view, press the [Select] key to enter the "System information" menu.
  2. In the "System information" view, press the [Select] key to enter the "Drive" menu.
  3. Read and record the serial number for adding the drive in the ABB Ability™ Powertrain platform.

Note: The serial number can be found in the control panel's menu. Refer to the "Record serial number" section for details. If the serial number is not displayed, contact ABB support.

After completing these steps, the drive is successfully connected to the ABB Ability™ Powertrain platform.

Step 3: Log in ABB Ability™ Powertrain Platform

After configuring cloud connectivity, log into the ABB Ability™ Powertrain system via a computer or mobile terminal. Users can register an account, log in, and add equipment. Once added, you can view the drive's real-time status, key parameter trend charts, and event records.

Registering Account

Website: https://digital.motion.abb.com.cn/

First-time users must register an account before logging in.

Creating or Joining a Group

  • To join an existing group, provide your registered mobile phone number to the group administrator.
  • To create a new group and add drives, navigate to "Group management" > "Group information" > "Create group".

Note: A user can only belong to one group, and a drive can only be in one group.

Creating Drive Group

Steps: "Drives management" > "Drives list" > "Add drives group".

Adding Drives

Steps: "Drives management" > "Drives list" > "Add drives".

Binding Subscription: After adding a drive, it enters a trial state. Bind the subscription code within 30 days to activate the service period. The subscription activation code is located on the back of the control panel.

Viewing Overall Condition and Details

After logging into the ABB Ability™ platform, donut charts on the home page display the overall condition of all drives connected to your account.

The "View details by index" page allows quick location of specific drives using the organization structure and drive list on the left. Detailed information includes four KPI indices: Availability, Environment, Reliability, and Stress. You can also click on different status colors in the donut chart to view the detailed drive list.

You can access more information and services through the ABB Ability™ Powertrain system, such as importing motor equipment monitored by ABB smart sensors and monitoring drive chains.
