Operation

Before First Use

  1. Ensure that the main voltage in your home corresponds to that indicated on the appliance. Connect the appliance to the main power.
  2. Clean the appliance by filling the water tank with fresh water and running a brew cycle. Removable parts like the carafe and filter basket can be cleaned with mild dish detergent.
  3. Allow the appliance to cool down for 5 minutes before the next brewing cycle.

Coffee Preparation

The Aroma Fresh™ Plus can use either whole coffee beans or pre-ground coffee.

Using Coffee Beans

  1. Open the bean container lid and fill it with the desired amount of coffee beans. Close the lid. Do not use caramelized coffee beans.
  2. Place a Melitta® 1x4® filter into the swivel filter holder. Ensure the holder is correctly seated.
  3. Select the grind level using the grind level dial (H). A finer setting (more clockwise rotation) can result in a slightly bitter coffee character, while a coarser setting (more counter-clockwise rotation) results in less bitter coffee.
  4. Close the water tank lid. Place the glass carafe (I) into the appliance and ensure the drip stop mechanism is open.
  5. Set the number of cups using button (L), which should correspond to the amount of water in the water tank. The display (K) shows the selected cup number. If no cup size is selected, it defaults to 10 cups.
  6. Select the coffee strength using button (N). The display shows the selection: one bean icon bean icon for mild, two bean icons for medium, and three bean icons for strong coffee. If no strength is selected, it defaults to medium (two bean icons).
  7. Press button (O) to start the grinding and brewing process. The appliance will grind the beans and then begin brewing automatically.
  8. After brewing is completed, the appliance will emit 3 beeps, and an indicator will remain on. The hotplate will keep the coffee warm and will turn off automatically after 2 hours, at which point the indicator disappears.
  9. The appliance can be turned off manually at any time by pressing button (O) again.

Using Ground Coffee

  1. Open the water tank lid and fill with the desired amount of water. Close the lid.
  2. Place a Melitta® 1x4® filter into the swivel filter holder. Add ground coffee (recommend 1 scoop per cup). Note: Using too much ground coffee may cause overflow.
  3. Close the water tank lid. Place the glass carafe (I) into the appliance and ensure the drip stop mechanism is open.
  4. Set the number of cups using button (L).
  5. Select the coffee strength using button (N).
  6. Press button (M) to select ground coffee mode; a white LED will turn on.
  7. Press button (O) to start brewing.
  8. The brewing process and warming plate operation are the same as when using beans.

Caution: Beware of hot steam from the steam vent.

  9. Note: The programmed start time is saved until a new start time is set or the appliance is unplugged from the power source.

Cleaning and Maintenance

External Cleaning

  • Before cleaning, always remove the plug from the socket.
  • Never immerse the appliance or cord in water.
  • The housing and the bean container can be cleaned with a soft damp cloth.
  • The glass carafe, its lid, and the filter basket are dishwasher safe.
  • When cold, the hotplate can be cleaned with a soft damp cloth.

Bean Container

  • Use a dry cloth or paper towel to clean oily residue.
  • Never wash under running water.
  • Note: When using oily roasts, it is important to take extra care to clean the bean container. Coffee oils can accumulate in the bean container's grooves and cause beans to have trouble feeding. If oily beans are used more consistently, the bean container will need more frequent cleaning. Regular cleaning of the bean container is recommended.

Ground Coffee Chute

  1. Holding the appliance in both hands carefully, lay it on its back.
  2. Clean the area above the swivel filter with a brush and a damp cloth.
  3. To open the ground coffee chute, press and hold button (M) for 6 seconds. The three bean icon on the display will flash.
  4. The ground coffee chute cover opens, and the chute can be cleaned with a brush.
  5. To close the ground coffee chute, press button (O). The three bean icon on the display disappears.
  6. Put the swivel filter back in place and stand the appliance up again.
  7. The ground coffee chute will remain open and the three bean icon will keep flashing until you press button (O).
  8. If you unplug the appliance from the wall outlet and insert the plug again, the ground coffee chute will close automatically.

Descaling

The appliance is equipped with a DESCALING alert feature. When "dCAL" appears intermittently on the display, it reminds you that the appliance needs to be descaled.

  1. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding amounts and pour the descaling agent into the water tank. Alternatively, use half a water tank of white vinegar diluted with clean water. Please do not exceed the maximum water level.
  2. Press button (O) to start the descaling brew cycle.
  3. After descaling, press button (O) to turn off the appliance.
  4. To remove the "dCAL" alert, press and hold button (N) for 6 seconds. A beep sound will occur, and the "dCAL" alert on the display will flash for a while. The descaling alert will be deactivated.
  5. At the end of the descaling process, the appliance should be rinsed through twice, using the maximum amount of water without coffee. This will remove any remaining descaling solution or limescale deposits.
