Getting Started

The A11MKII Stereo Integrated Amplifier provides years of musical enjoyment in a high-quality audio system. It features a full-range, high-performance design with a regulated power supply and a custom-designed toroidal power transformer for ample power reserves. Symmetrical circuit traces, metal film resistors, and polystyrene/polypropylene capacitors ensure precise timing and faithful music reproduction.

Installation and use are straightforward. Plug in associated components and enjoy.

A Few Precautions

WARNING: To prevent system damage, turn off ALL components before connecting or disconnecting loudspeakers or associated components. Ensure all connections are correct and secure before powering on. Pay attention to speaker wires to prevent loose strands from shorting.

Read this manual carefully for system integration and optimal performance. Contact your authorized Rotel dealer for questions.

Save the original shipping carton and packing material for future use to prevent damage during shipping or moving.

Complete the owner's registration card or register online. Keep your sales receipt for warranty service.

Placement

Avoid placing the amplifier on top of other components. Route audio signal cables away from power cords to minimize hum or interference.

The unit generates heat; ensure ventilation slots in the top cover are open. Maintain 10 cm (4 inches) clearance around the chassis for proper airflow to prevent overheating.

Ensure the installation location's shelf or cabinet can support the amplifier's weight. Consider furniture designed for audio components to reduce vibration.

The A11MKII requires placement where the remote control's infrared signal can reach the front panel Remote Sensor.

Cables

Keep power cords, digital signal cables, and audio signal cables separated to prevent noise or interference. Use high-quality, shielded cables for best sound quality.

AC Power and Control

AC Power Input

The unit is factory-configured for the AC line voltage of the purchase country (120V AC or 230V AC, 50Hz or 60Hz). Configuration is noted on a back panel decal.

NOTE: Reconfiguring for a different voltage is possible but should only be done by a qualified service person. Opening the unit exposes you to dangerous voltages.

NOTE: Use only the AC cord appropriate for your country/region.

Plug the unit directly into a polarized wall outlet using the supplied cable or a recommended compatible cable. Do not use extension cords. A heavy-duty multi-tap power outlet strip may be used if it and the wall outlet can handle the total current demand.

For extended absences (e.g., month-long vacation), unplug the amplifier and other audio/video components.

Power Switch Ⓐ and Power Indicator 2

Press the front panel Power Switch button to turn the unit on; the Power Indicator light illuminates. Press again to turn off. When the power switch is ON, the remote control ON/OFF buttons (A) can activate the A11MKII. The indicator light is red in Standby mode.

Refer to the "12V Trigger Outlet" section for controlling other components.

12V Trigger Out q

Two 12V Trigger Outputs can automatically turn on compatible components when the amplifier is powered on. Use a 3.5mm mini plug cable. When the amplifier is turned off, the trigger signal is interrupted, turning off controlled components.

Input Signal Connections

NOTE: Turn the system off before making any signal connections to prevent loud noises.

Phono Input e and Ground Connection w

Connect turntable cables to the left and right phono inputs. Connect the turntable's "ground" wire to the screw terminal left of the Phono inputs to help prevent hum and noise.

Line Level Inputs r

These inputs (CD, Tuner, Aux) are for analog audio outputs from components like CD players. Connect Left (white) and Right (red) channels using high-quality RCA cables.

Digital Signal Inputs t

Connect coaxial or optical outputs from source components. The amplifier decodes PCM signals up to 24-bit, 192kHz.

Speaker Outputs y

Use insulated two-conductor stranded wire for speaker connections. Heavier gauge wire can improve sound. Ensure consistent polarity and phasing for all speaker connections.

Speaker Connection

Use either binding post or plug-in connections, but not both simultaneously for multiple speakers.

Turn off all components before connecting speakers. The unit has color-coded binding post connectors (except in EC countries where their use is not permitted). These accept bare wire, connector lugs, or dual banana plugs.

Route wires with sufficient slack. For dual banana plugs, connect to wires and plug into binding posts. Screw thumbscrews clockwise.

For terminal lugs or bare wires, strip insulation carefully. Unscrew thumbscrews counterclockwise, place connector/wire around the post shaft, and screw thumbscrews clockwise to secure. Ensure no loose strands touch adjacent wires or connectors.

IR Remote Sensor 4

This window receives IR commands. Do not block it.

Headphone Output 3

Connect a standard 3.5mm mini stereo headphone connector for private listening. Plugging in headphones does not cut off the signal to the main outputs.

NOTE: Reduce volume before connecting/disconnecting headphones due to varying sensitivities.

aptX™ HD Bluetooth Connection 0

Use the Bluetooth Antenna for wireless streaming from devices like mobile phones, tablets, or computers. Look for "Rotel Bluetooth" and connect. A password "0000" may be required. Supports traditional Bluetooth, AAC, and aptX™ HD audio streaming.

Power Control -

The Power Control slider offers two automatic power-saving modes:

To disable these functions, slide to the NONE position.

NOTE: When entering standby via the remote, Signal Sense will not operate until audio has stopped for 10 minutes to prevent immediate power-on.

NOTE: Signal Sense mode consumes additional power.

Press the corresponding input button on the front panel (9) or remote control (G) to select the desired listening source.

LED Dimmer Control B

Press the DIM B button on the remote control to change the brightness of the power indicator, source LEDs, and volume knob LED.

Protection Circuit

The unit has thermal and over-current protection circuitry to prevent damage from extreme or faulty conditions. These circuits monitor output device temperature and shut down the amplifier if safe limits are exceeded. The protection circuits do not affect sonic performance.

If a fault occurs, the amplifier stops playing, and the POWER indicator (2) turns red. Turn the amplifier off, let it cool, and identify/correct the problem. The circuit resets automatically upon power-on, and the indicator should turn blue.

Protection circuits typically activate due to shorted speaker wires, inadequate ventilation, or overheating. In rare cases, low impedance speaker loads can trigger it.

If the protection circuit triggers repeatedly, contact your authorized Rotel dealer for assistance.

Troubleshooting

Most difficulties stem from incorrect connections or settings. Isolate the problem, check settings, and make necessary changes.

Power Indicator Is Not Illuminated

Ensure the unit is plugged in and the Power button is pressed. Test the power outlet with another device. Verify the outlet is not controlled by a switch.

Fuse Replacement

If other devices work but the Power Indicator does not light, the internal power fuse may have blown. Contact your authorized Rotel dealer for fuse replacement.

No Sound

Check the signal source, ensure cables are properly connected, verify the correct input is selected, and check speaker wiring.

Cannot Connect via Bluetooth

On your device, delete the previous Bluetooth connection memory (e.g., "Forget this Device") and try connecting again.
