WARNING!

Read this entire manual before assembling or using your new electric bike. Do not modify, disassemble, or replace original electrical components. Doing so invalidates the warranty and can cause danger. Riding any bike carries risks. Proper care lowers the risk of component failure but cannot prevent it. Sudden failures can cause serious harm, injury, or death. If abnormalities are noticed, take the bike to a licensed mechanic immediately. SOHAMO Inc assumes no liability for harm, injury, or death. This manual is not a detailed service manual.

SOHAMO recommends a detailed safety check by a local bike shop mechanic before the first ride. Ensure the mechanic is experienced and reputable. The SOHAMO A3 can withstand most rain showers without damage, having an IP rating of 65 (dust tight and withstands jetting water). This does not mean it is waterproof. Avoid storing or using the bike in excessively wet conditions. Water damage is not covered by warranty.

Operating Safety

Before riding for the first time, read and understand this manual. Learn how to activate pedal assist and throttle. Start slowly in a low pedal assist level in a safe area away from traffic and obstacles. Increase pedal assist levels only when comfortable. Ride with care at any speed. Failure to follow guidelines can lead to serious harm, injury, or death. Damage from not following instructions is not covered under warranty. Do not lean on the bike when parked with the kickstand.

Helmets and Local Laws

Always wear a helmet that fits securely. Comply with local laws regarding cycling and e-biking. If carrying children, ensure they also wear properly fitted helmets.

Pre-ride Safety Check and Inspection

Before each ride, check for loose fasteners or accessories. Ensure front and rear axles, handlebars, and handlebar stem are secure. Check tire pressure; inflate to recommended pressure on tire walls. Test brake levers to ensure brakes work properly. Adjust as needed. Ensure seatpost and handlebar stem are inserted past minimum insertion points (indicated by markings).

Riding in Wet Conditions

This e-bike can handle light rain and splashes but is not designed for heavy rain, showers, or submersion. Braking may take longer, and tires may slip when wet. Electrical components are not waterproof. The bike has an IP rating of 65. Water damage is not covered under warranty.

Riding at Night

Riding at night increases risk due to reduced visibility. Use increased caution. Ensure reflectors are installed. Turn on the front headlight and rear tail light. Wear bright colored clothing for better visibility.

Max Weight

The bike can carry a total weight of 220 lbs. The rear rack supports up to 75 lbs. A payload of 40 lbs with a rider of 180 lbs is the maximum. Exceeding weight limits may void the warranty, damage the bike, or cause injury. Total weight affects range and top speed.

Pre-Ride Safety Check

Ensure all components are securely fastened before riding to prevent harm. This includes pedals, handlebars, clamp, cranks, seat, and seatpost clamp. Check that the seat or stem cannot be twisted by hand.

To set proper seat height: Sit on the saddle facing forward, place the ball of your foot on the pedal at its lowest point. Your leg should be mostly straight with a slight bend at the knee. You should be able to pedal without overextending your leg. If your hips move side-to-side, lower the seat. Adjust the saddle so your feet can rest firmly on the ground.

To adjust seat height: Unlatch the seatpost clamp, move the seat to the desired height, and close the clamp. The open/closed positions of the clamp are indicated [visual description: open on left, closed on right].

Ensure seatpost and handlebar stem are inserted past their minimum insertion points (marked on the tubes). Failure to do so can cause undue stress and risk of sudden failure.

Check seatpost clamp and handlebar stem quick release torque. They should be tight enough to prevent twisting or falling. Tighten by turning the bolt clockwise. Refer to the manual's "Recommended Torque Values" section for specifics.

To adjust seat angle/position: Loosen nuts on the seat rails, move the seat, and retighten nuts.

Ensure all front cables and connectors are secure for proper function of the headlight, motor inhibitor switches, LCD display, and throttle. Motor inhibitor switches cut motor power when brakes are applied. If non-operational, slowing down will be delayed, potentially causing injury. Ensure installed accessories do not interfere with cables and connectors when turning handlebars.

Electric Bike Maintenance

Regular Cleaning:

Cleaning helps prevent dirt and debris from entering the motor and mechanical parts. Wash the e-bike once or twice per week. Do not use a pressurized hose; use a low-pressure stream or wet rag and dry thoroughly. This prevents water damage to electrical systems.

Lubrication:

Lubricate major moving parts like the chain. Clean the chain with a special solution before applying lubricant. Aim to do this at least once a week if used frequently.

Check the Bolts:

Periodically check for loose screws, bolts, and nuts. Tighten them slightly if loose, but do not overtighten.

Tire Pressure:

Check tire pressure with a gauge. If low or tires visibly sink, inflate to the pressure indicated on the tire walls.

Brake Pads:

Inspect brake pads every few weeks. Ensure they are effective for safe braking. Replace as needed.

Waterproofing:

The battery and motor are sealed against water damage, but not completely waterproof. Avoid jet washing or submerging the bike. The motor is a factory-sealed unit and should not be disassembled for maintenance.

Battery Care

Charge the battery at room temperature in a dry location. To prolong battery life, avoid leaving it fully charged or fully discharged for extended periods. For long-term storage (over an extended period of disuse), disconnect the battery. Top it up periodically. Maintaining a 30-60% charge is ideal for long-term storage (according to Bosch). Extreme heat and cold are detrimental to batteries. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. In winter, especially below 0°C, charge and store at room temperature, then re-insert before riding.
