Certain washing machines require the power to be permanently connected so they cannot be controlled by the TS800N. This is also true of tumble dryers with push button start.

Diagram A: Time Controller Overview

The Timeguard TS800N features a front view of the plug-in time controller. A circular dial, marked with hours from 1 to 24, surrounds a central socket where an appliance is plugged in. Small pins can be inserted into slots around the dial to set ON and OFF periods. A small indicator, the 'Time indicator', shows the current time. A switch, labelled 'Self-cancelling override switch', allows for manual control. The dial is referred to as the '24hr programme ring', with inner holes designated for ON periods and outer holes for OFF periods. The unit has 'Protective lobes' on the socket face and is housed in a 'Tough flame retardant casing'.

4. Operation

  • Decide what times you would like the time switch to switch ON and OFF.
  • Insert a pin in the Inner Circle for an ON period.
  • Insert a pin in the Outer Circle for an OFF period.

Important: The pins should be pushed fully home or they will catch on the underside of the protective lobes on the bottom of the front socket face (See diagram "A").

  • The minimum switching interval is 30 minutes, and this can be increased in 15 minute steps.
  • Set the correct time of day by rotating the dial clockwise, until the correct time is indicated by the Time indicator located on the left centre of the time switch (See diagram "A").
  • Plug the time controller into a socket and switch socket ON if necessary.
  • Plug your appliance into the time controller and switch the appliance ON.

Manual Override

  • It is possible to manually override the programmed time by operating the override switch located in the bottom left hand corner of the plug-in timer.
  • Switch Positions: 1 = ON, O = OFF.
  • If you use the manual override, it will self-cancel at the next programmed time.
  • The override switch cannot be used within 15 minutes either side of a switching time.

Points to Note

  • Each time the time controller has carried out an automatic switching operation, the manual switch cannot be operated for about 15 minutes before and after automatic switching because it will be mechanically locked for this period.
  • If required, you can programme your time controller to switch OFF only by inserting just a single pin. For many electrical appliances, you can therefore programme for OFF only to ensure that if you forget to switch the appliance off, nothing can be damaged or unnecessary power used. When using this technique, switch on by hand using the self-cancelling override switch.
  • The Programme ring can be turned even when the time controller is operating. In case of a power failure, please re-adjust the time controller to the correct time of day, turning the dial in a clockwise direction.
