Installation Procedure

Part 1: Preparing the Radio

This section details accessing and preparing the vehicle's radio for the camera system connection.

  1. Gain access to the back of your aftermarket radio. If access is already available, skip to Part 2.
  2. Remove the rubber bin insert from the top of the dashboard.
  3. Remove the 7mm bolt located under the rubber bin insert.
  4. Using a plastic trim removal tool, carefully remove the window switch panel.
  5. Disconnect the wiring harness from the window switches.
  6. Remove the 7mm bolt situated behind the window switch panel.
  7. Remove the driver's knee bolster cover.
  8. Remove two 7mm bolts located on both sides of the steering column.
  9. Remove the center stack/cluster trim.
  10. Remove the glove box to gain access to the area behind it, which is necessary for making the connection to the radio.
  11. Remove four 7mm bolts to detach the radio from the dashboard.
  12. Locate the White 22-pin connector with a female RCA that was included with your kit. Plug this 22-pin connector into the open connection on the back of your radio.
  13. Route the RCA cable towards the passenger side through the dashboard. Let it rest behind the glove box; it should be visible through the glove box opening.
  14. Reassemble the radio and surrounding panels, but leave the glove box disassembled for now.

Part 2: Camera Functionality Test

(Highly recommended, not required)

This section describes how to test the camera's functionality before final installation.

For SUTV-8837:

  • The camera harness has three wires accompanying the RCA: Red, Green, and Black.
  • Connections: Twist the Red and Green wires together to create the Power connection. The Black wire is for Ground.
  • Testing with an extension wire (not supplied): Connect the twisted Red and Green wires directly to the positive terminal of a battery. Connect the Black wire to the negative terminal of the battery.
  • Test Camera: Connect the RCA to your aftermarket radio. Turn the vehicle's key to the ON position. Place the vehicle in reverse and verify that a good image is displayed.

For SUTV-8847:

  • There are two wires at the rear of the harness near the camera: Red (Power) and Black (Ground).
  • Testing with an extension wire (not supplied): Connect the Red wire directly to the positive terminal of a battery. Connect the Black wire to the negative terminal of the battery.
  • Test Camera: Connect the RCA to your aftermarket radio. Turn the vehicle's key to the ON position. Place the vehicle in reverse and verify that a good image is displayed.

For SUTV-8857:

  • There are two wires accompanying the RCA: Red (Power) and Black (Ground).

Wiring Diagram Descriptions:

  • 12V Power (Red+Green) / Ground (Black): Indicates wiring for power and ground.
  • 12V Power (Red) / Ground (Black): Indicates wiring for power and ground.
  • White/Grey 12V Reverse Wire: Located in the JK Passenger Kick panel, this wire is used for the reverse signal.

Part 3: Installing Rear Camera on Tire Carrier

This section covers the physical mounting of the camera bracket onto the vehicle's spare tire carrier.

  1. Remove your spare tire. Place the camera bracket onto the top two studs of the tire carrier.
  2. Secure the bracket to the carrier using two push nuts on the top two studs.
  3. The nylon washer should be placed on the bottom stud and secured with the third push nut.
  4. Mount your tire onto the carrier. Make any necessary adjustments to the camera's placement to ensure a clear view through the wheel spokes.
  5. Once the camera orientation is satisfactory, tighten the two adjustment screws on the bracket.
  6. Reinstall the spare tire onto the carrier.

Install Rear View Camera Chassis Harness

This section details routing the camera's chassis harness.

  1. Using a plastic trim removal tool, remove the interior panels on the inside of the rear gate.
  2. Insert the camera connector through the rear relief/vent flap located behind the spare tire mount. DO NOT RUN THROUGH THE CENTER HOLE OF THE TIRE CARRIER.
  3. Gently pull the harness through the relief door and connect your camera harness to your chassis harness.
  4. Use the supplied wire ties to secure the chassis harness to the existing harness in the tailgate.
  5. Use supplied wire ties to secure the chassis harness to the exterior of the fabric factory wire cover that connects the tailgate to the body. Do not run the harness through the fabric factory wire cover itself. ⚠️ CAUTION: Leave enough slack to allow the gate to open fully.
  6. Using a plastic trim removal tool, remove the rear access panel (behind the seat belt) to expose a 10mm bolt. Remove this bolt. Failure to remove this bolt will result in damage to the panel.
  7. Remove the interior rear quarter panel.
  8. For SUTV-8848 (or similar models): Ground the black wire at a suitable chassis ground point. Isolate the red wire with electrical tape. Power will be connected at the front of the vehicle in later steps.
  9. Pull back the carpet and continue running the chassis harness forward under the sill plates and B-pillar cover to the passenger kick panel.
  10. Use a plastic trim removal tool to remove the two plastic push pins and then remove the passenger sill plate/kick panel.
  11. Run the chassis harness behind the glove box and into the radio cavity.

Connecting to Power

This section explains how to connect the camera system to the vehicle's power source.

For SUTV-8837:

  • There are three wires accompanying the RCA in the passenger panel: Red, Green, and Black.
  • Connections: Twist the Red and Green wires together for Power. The Black wire is for Ground.
  • Identify the power output from your aftermarket radio.
  • Connect the twisted Red and Green wire to the power output from the radio.
  • Connect the Black wire to Chassis ground. Brandmotion recommends using a factory chassis grounding point.

For SUTV-8847:

  • Identify the red power wire exiting the back of the yellow RCA from your camera chassis harness.
  • Identify the power output from your aftermarket radio.
  • Connect the Red wire to the power output from your aftermarket radio.
  • Connect the Black wire to Chassis ground. Brandmotion recommends using a factory chassis grounding point.

For SUTV-8857:

  • Connect the jumper power harness to the chassis harness (if not already connected).
  • Separate the power and ground wires at the jumper harness: Red = Power, Black = Ground.
  • Identify the power output from your aftermarket radio.
  • Connect the Red wire to the power output from your aftermarket radio.
  • Connect the Black wire to Chassis ground. Brandmotion recommends using a factory chassis grounding point.

Finishing Installation

This section covers the final connections and reassembly.

  1. Connect the male RCA of the chassis harness to the female RCA located behind the glove box.
  2. Test Camera: Verify connections: Twist Red and Green together = Power, Black = Ground.
  3. Reassemble the vehicle in the reverse order of removal.

Programming Instructions

These instructions are for programming the module for vehicle use.

  1. ? NOTE: These modules are VIN locked for single vehicle use. If your vehicle's radio is ever replaced or flashed by a dealership, you can reprogram the module with this programmer.
  2. Start the vehicle and allow it to run for 20-30 seconds before proceeding. ⚠️ Failure to start the vehicle before inserting the programming module can cause catastrophic failure of the module and void your warranty on this part.
  3. Plug the module into the OBDII port, which is located under the dash on the driver's side. Wait for the green LED to light up, then remove the module.
  4. Shift the vehicle into reverse. If you see a black/blue screen with the message "Check your Surroundings", the flash has been successful, and you can proceed with testing the camera.
