Appendix F: Proximity Sensor Triggering Test

This appendix details the proximity sensor triggering test results for the device, as provided by the manufacturer. The tests were conducted according to KDB 616217 D04.

Proximity Sensor Triggering Distance (KDB 616217 D04 section 6.2)

Proximity sensor triggering distance testing was performed by assessing the EUT (Equipment Under Test) moving towards and away from the flat phantom. The shortest triggering distances were recorded for SAR assessment. Preliminary testing indicated that the tissue-equivalent medium for 1900MHz yielded the shortest triggering distance across different frequency bands, and this medium was used for formal testing.

Diagram Description: A diagram illustrating the proximity sensor test setup. It shows a 'Flat Phantom' above an 'EUT' (Equipment Under Test). An arrow points from the EUT to the phantom, labeled 'Trigger distance'.

Proximity Sensor Triggering Coverage (KDB 616217 D04 section 6.3)

If a sensor is spatially offset from the antenna(s), it is necessary to verify sensor triggering for conditions where the antenna is next to the user but the sensor is laterally further away to ensure sensor coverage is sufficient for reducing the power to maintain compliance. For p-sensor coverage testing, the device is moved and “along the direction of maximum antenna and sensor offset". However, this device uses a capacitive proximity sensor that is the same metallic component as the transmitting antenna to facilitate triggering in any conditions the user may use the device in proximity of the antenna. Therefore, no further sensor coverage assessments were required according to KDB 616217 D04 v016.3.

Tablet Tilt Angle Influences to Proximity Sensor Triggering (KDB 616217 D04 section 6.4)

The influence of table tilt angles to proximity sensor triggering was determined by positioning each tablet edge that contains a transmitting antenna, perpendicular to the flat phantom, at 16 mm separation for Edge 1 and 4 mm separation for Edge 4. The tablet was rotated around the edge next to the phantom in ≤ 10° increments until the tablet was ± 45° from the vertical position at 0°, and the maximum output power remained in the reduced mode.

Diagram Description: A diagram illustrating the tablet tilt angle influence on proximity sensor triggering. It shows a 'Flat Phantom' and an 'EUT' positioned at angles of +45° and -45° relative to the vertical. An arrow indicates 'Trigger distance'.
