A. O. Smith Tankless Electric Water Heater Warranty
Warranty Applicability and Terms
This warranty is applicable to the original owner only, in accordance with the terms and conditions specified below. A. O. Smith (the warrantor) will furnish the original owner either a replacement A. O. Smith water heater of equivalent size and current model if a chamber in this water heater leaks, or a replacement part for any component part that fails. Consumable maintenance parts are excluded from warranty coverage.
The A. O. Smith replacement model or part will be warranted for only the unexpired portion of the original warranty. The warranty period will be determined by the original date of purchase of the water heater, or in the absence of a Bill of Sale verifying said date, from the date of manufacture indicated on the rating plate affixed to this water heater. This warranty is not transferable and applies to the models listed below.

Conditions and Exceptions
This warranty shall apply only when the water heater is installed and operated in accordance with:
- All local fire codes and plumbing codes, ordinances and regulations.
- The printed instructions provided with the unit.
- Good industry practices.
- Proper safety practices, including a properly sized metal drain pan if installed in an area where leakage could result in damage.
This warranty shall apply only when the water heater is:
- Owned by the original purchaser.
- Installed, operated, and maintained in accordance with the printed Manufacturer's instructions.
- Used at temperatures not exceeding the maximum calibrated setting of its thermostat.
- Used at water pressure not exceeding 80 psi static pressure.
- Filled with potable water, free to circulate at all times, and with the tank free of damaging water sediment or scale deposits.
- Used in a non-corrosive and non-contaminated atmosphere.
- In its original installation location.
- Located in the United States, its territories or possessions, or Canada.
- Sized in accordance with proper sizing techniques for residential water heaters.
- Bearing a rating plate that has not been altered, defaced, or removed except as required by the warrantor.
- Used in an open system or in a closed system.
- Connected to the proper voltage.
- Operated at the factory rated input.
- Installed with no attempted or actual modification or alteration of the water heater's design, including the attachment of non-company approved appliances or equipment.
- Installed indoors (not intended for outdoor installations).
- Installed for instantaneous water heating applications only; not approved for space heating applications.
The following are not covered by this warranty:
- Accidents, freezing, fire, floods, lightning, misuse, abuse, or alteration.
- Operation in a modified form.
- Operation on desalinated (deionized) water.
- Damage caused by attempts to repair chamber leaks or parts.
- Water heaters replaced for cosmetic reasons or for reasons of noise, taste, odor, discolored, or rusty water.
- Water heaters used to heat pools, whirlpools, hot tubs, or for space heating.
- Water damages arising (directly or indirectly) from any defect in the water heater or component part(s) or from its use.
- Heaters or component parts damaged or failed due to operation on an empty chamber (e.g., elements due to dry fire).
- Heaters or component parts that have been submerged under water.
This warranty provides specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary under the laws of each state. If any provision is prohibited or invalid under applicable state law, that provision shall be ineffective to the extent of the prohibition or invalidity without invalidating the remainder of the affected provision or other provisions of this warranty.
Service and Labor Responsibility
Under this limited warranty, the warrantor will provide a replacement water heater or part thereof for the term stipulated on page one, and labor during the first year only. The owner is responsible for all other costs, including:
- Labor charges for service, removal, or reinstallation subsequent to the first year.
- Shipping and delivery charges for forwarding the new water heater or replacement part and returning the claimed defective unit or part.
- Costs for handling, administrative charges, and any materials or permits required for installation.
Limitation on Implied Warranties
Implied warranties, including any warranty of merchantability, are limited to one year duration for the water heater or any of its parts. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so these limitations may not apply to you.
Claim Procedure
Any claim under this warranty should be initiated with the dealer who sold the water heater, or with any other dealer handling A. O. Smith products. If this is not practical, contact A. O. The warrantor will only honor replacement with identical or similar water heater or parts manufactured or distributed by the warrantor. Dealer replacements are made subject to in-warranty validation by warrantor.
PROOF OF PURCHASE AND PROOF OF INSTALLATION DATE ARE REQUIRED TO SUPPORT WARRANTY CLAIM FROM ORIGINAL OWNER. THIS FORM DOES NOT CONSTITUTE PROOF OF PURCHASE OR PROOF OF INSTALLATION.
Disclaimers
No expressed warranty has been or will be made in behalf of the warrantor with respect to the merchantability of the water heater or the installation, operation, repair, or replacement of the water heater or parts. The warrantor shall not be responsible for water damage, loss of use of the unit, inconvenience, loss or damage to personal property, or other consequential damage. The warrantor shall not be liable by virtue of this warranty or otherwise for damage to any persons or property, whether direct or indirect, and whether arising in contract or in tort.
Should governmental regulations or industry standards prohibit the Manufacturer from furnishing a comparable model replacement under this warranty, the Owner will be furnished with the closest comparable water heater meeting the then current governmental regulations and industry standards. A supplementary fee may be assessed to cover additional costs associated with changes made to meet applicable regulations and standards. The warranty may not apply if there is a failure to follow maintenance instructions.
The terms of this warranty may not be varied by any person, whether or not purporting to represent or to act on behalf of the warrantor.
