Introduction
The Teradek Bolt Panel Antenna v.4 is a robust solution designed to minimize wireless interference in crowded environments. When connected to a Bolt 4K receiver, this antenna delivers a highly directional signal, ensuring uninterrupted transmission. It provides a more resilient wireless transmission, particularly in challenging RF conditions, by concentrating the signal and reducing interference. This can lead to an improved reception range, though it will not exceed the maximum specified range.
What's Included
- 1x Bolt Array Antenna Assembly (available in Gold or V-mount)
- 5x RP-SMA Male to RP-SMA Male 4in/10cm Cables
- 1x 2dBi Omnidirectional Antenna
Physical Properties
The Bolt Panel Antenna features several key components for its operation and mounting:
- A: 2dBi Omnidirectional antenna - A small, upright antenna typically located at the top left.
- B: RP-SMA connectors (horizontal) - Two connectors positioned horizontally on the top right, used for specific antenna configurations.
- C: RP-SMA connectors (vertical) - Five connectors arranged vertically in the center of the top panel, used for the primary antenna connections.
- D: Battery plate - Located on the rear of the unit, allowing for attachment of compatible batteries.
- E: Yoke assembly - The U-shaped bracket with knobs on either side, used for adjusting the antenna's angle and mounting.
- F: 3/8" Light stand adapter - A threaded adapter at the bottom of the yoke, designed for mounting on standard light stands.
The top panel also displays "HV 4.9-7.5 GHz" indicating its operating frequency range, and a "CE AMN ANT 1011" marking on the rear.
Power and Connect
- Connect the output from your video source to either the SDI or HDMI input on the transmitter.
- Attach antennas to the transmitter.
- Mount the receiver to the back of the Panel Antenna.
- Mount the receiver to the back of the antenna. Connect the five RP-SMA connectors to the center connectors labeled 'V' using the included extension cables. If the transmitter uses horizontal antennas, attach the receiver's two outward connectors to the antenna's two external connectors labeled 'H'.
Antenna Configuration Visuals:
V configuration: Depicts the antenna with five cables connected vertically to the 'V' labeled ports on the top panel, indicating a primary vertical antenna setup.
H + V configuration: Shows the antenna with five cables connected vertically to the 'V' labeled ports, and two additional cables connected horizontally to the 'H' labeled ports, illustrating a setup utilizing both vertical and horizontal antenna connections.
- Connect power to both the transmitter and receiver using the included A/C adapter or an optional battery plate accessory. If using a battery plate, connect a compatible AB Gold mount or V-Lock battery.
- Move the power switches on both the transmitter and receiver to the ON position. Video should appear within a few seconds.
Antenna Receive Pattern
The Bolt Panel Antenna incorporates a directional antenna with a receive pattern that varies based on its distance from the transmitter. The horizontal receive angle measures 55° at 5,000 ft (1.5 km), 104° at 4,000 ft (1.25 km), and is effectively omnidirectional at up to 500 ft (150 m). The vertical receive angle consistently measures 20° at any distance.
Receive Pattern Diagram Description:
The diagram illustrates the antenna's signal reception area. A central point represents the antenna. From this point, a narrow vertical cone extends, indicating a consistent 20° vertical receive angle regardless of distance. Horizontally, the reception area widens as the distance decreases:
- At 5,000 ft (1.5 km), the horizontal receive angle is approximately 55°.
- At 4,000 ft (1.25 km), the horizontal receive angle expands to approximately 104°.
- At 500 ft (150 m), the reception becomes effectively omnidirectional, covering approximately 360°.
This visual representation highlights the antenna's ability to focus its signal more tightly at longer distances while providing broader coverage closer to the source.
Mounting
The Bolt Panel Antenna features three 3/8" threaded holes: one on the bottom for mounting the included light stand adapter or any 3/8″ mounting accessory, and one on each side for attachment to a yoke mount bracket assembly.
- Mount the Panel Antenna vertically, ensuring it is clear of any obstructions.
- Orient the transmitter and receiver parallel to each other.
- For optimal results, position the Panel Antenna so its front (marked with the Teradek logo) has a clear line-of-sight to the transmitter.
