Installing Your Appliance
Cabinet Clearance
Keep the area open and clear of obstructions at the bottom front of the appliance for ventilation. Adjacent cabinets and countertops can be installed around the appliance as long as the front grille remains unobstructed. Overlay door models with articulated hinges are for built-in applications only.
Front Grille
Do not obstruct the front grille. The openings allow air to flow through the condenser heat exchanger. Restrictions will result in increased energy usage, loss of cooling capacity, and low ice production. Marvel does not recommend custom grilles as they may restrict airflow.
Leveling Legs
Adjustable legs at the front and rear corners ensure the unit is firmly positioned and level. The height can be adjusted by turning the leveling legs. To adjust, place the appliance on a solid surface, protect the floor, and with assistance, lean the appliance back to access the front legs. Turn legs to adjust height. Tilt the appliance forward to access and adjust rear legs. Check for levelness on a level surface.
The front grille screws can be loosened to adjust the grille height. Tighten screws after adjustment.
Table: Height Adjustment
Minimum Height | Maximum Height |
---|---|
33 3/4" | 34 3/4" |
CAUTION: Do not install in a location where the ice machine will be exposed to direct sun exposure, as this may result in unsatisfactory performance.
Select Location
For peak performance, choose a location out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Recommended installation temperature range is 55-90°F (13-32°C) for built-in models and 55-100°F (13-38°C) for freestanding models. Ice machines will not perform correctly in ambient temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
CAUTION: The warranty is voided if the product is used in an ambient temperature of 40°F (5°C) or below.

Installing The Water Supply
CAUTION: Observe and follow all local building codes.
Connect to a potable cold water supply line with pressure between 20 psi and 120 psi.
Use 1/4" copper tubing, available at hardware or plumbing supply stores. Route tubing without kinking. Purchase enough length for a "service loop" behind the unit. Connect to the "top side" of a cold water pipe to prevent sediment plugging. A shutoff valve is recommended.
NOTE: A SELF-PIERCING TYPE VALVE IS NOT RECOMMENDED due to clogging with sediment.
Connect the copper tubing to the water valve inlet with a 1/4" compression nut fitting. Secure the water supply line to the back of the cabinet with the provided screw and strain relief clamp.
Ensure all connections are watertight. Form tubing to prevent vibration or kinking when moving the appliance.
If water quality is unsatisfactory, consider filtering or treatment. Consult a water specialist.
CAUTION: To prevent water leaks: Use the water line fitting with copper tubing only. Do not use plastic tubing. Do not use thread sealers on this fitting.
NOTE: Reverse osmosis (RO), softened, and de-ionized water are not recommended as they can adversely affect ice quality and quantity.
Installing The Drain Plumbing
CAUTION: This drain pump is designed for Marvel ice machines and approved for use with water only.
WARNING: Electrical Shock Hazard. Risk of electrical shock or personal injury may occur from moving components if the machine compartment access cover is removed before unplugging the power cord.
The drain line should be coiled and secured to the back of the cabinet. Uncoil, route to an appropriate drain, and cut to length.
The drain pump vent tube should be kept open to assure airflow as water enters the pump reservoir.
Ice Maker Operation
The Ice Making Process
The ice machine forms clear ice through fractional freezing. Water runs over a cold evaporator plate, gradually freezing to form an ice slab. Pure water freezes first, leaving dissolved solids in the residual water. When the ice slab reaches the correct thickness, it is released and slides onto the grid cutter, where heated wires cut it into squares. Water with dissolved minerals is drained after each freezing cycle, and fresh water enters for the next cycle.
Diagram Description: A diagram shows the internal components of the ice maker, including the water distributor, front panel, grid cutter, evaporator, water reservoir, circulation pump, ice deflector, bin level sensor, and reservoir drain plug.
Ice Production
In normal mode, the ice machine produces up to 39 lbs (17.7 kg) of clear ice in 24 hours at 72°F ambient and 55°F water supply. In "ECO" mode, it produces up to 29 lbs (13.2 kg) of clear ice in 24 hours.
NOTE: Initial ice production and accumulated ice will vary. During the first 24 hours, the unit may produce up to 39 lbs of ice. The storage bin is maintained at a temperature slightly above freezing to allow stored ice to melt slowly, preserving quality and clarity. As ice accumulates, production will overcome melt, and the bin will fill.
The bin level sensor indicates when the ice supply is low or full, starting or stopping the ice-making process.
NOTE: If the water supply is turned off, set the electronic control to "OFF" or remove power.
New Sounds
The ice machine may make sounds different from a household refrigerator. These are likely normal sounds associated with the ice production process:
- Buzzing sound: Water valve opens.
- Rattling noise: Water flowing through the water line.
- Splashing sound: Water flowing over the evaporator plate and into the reservoir.
- "Thud": Ice slab released from the evaporator plate and slides onto the grid cutter.
- "Clicks": Cubes fall into the ice storage bin.
- Gurgling sound: Refrigerant flowing in the ice machine.
- Air noise: From the condenser fan.
Cleaning Your Ice Machine
Clean Reminder
The display will alternate between "CL" and "ICE" every 3000 cycles when cleaning is needed. Mineral buildup on the evaporator plate can affect ice quality. You can clear the "CL" reminder by holding "UP", "DOWN", and "CLEAN" simultaneously. The reminder will reset for another 3000 cycles. For cleaning, refer to the options menu.
Clean Mode
For optimal performance and ice quality, clean the ice machine every six months. This helps ensure efficient water and energy use.
NOTE: Homes with poor water quality or high clear ice usage may require more frequent cleaning.
To clean, purchase a "nickel safe" ice maker cleaner from Marvel customer service at 616-754-5601 or orderdesk@marvelrefrigeration.com. Part # S41013789.
Cleaning Procedure
- Turn the ice machine OFF by pressing and holding the "ON/OFF" icon for 3 seconds. "OFF" will display.
- Remove all ice from the ice bin.
- Drain water from the reservoir by removing the black plug at the bottom. Replace the plug after draining.
- Allow all ice to fall from the evaporator plate and remove any ice from the grid cutter. If ice is embedded in the grid cutter wires, wait for it to melt. Do not try to remove embedded ice, as this may break the wires.
CAUTION: Forcing ice through the grid cutter will break the grid cutter wires.
Diagram Description: Diagrams show removing ice from the evaporator plate and grid cutter area.
CAUTION: Use only Marvel-approved ice machine cleaner and follow all label warnings and directions. Incorrect chemical usage and resulting damage are not covered by warranty.
Care and Cleaning
Front Grille
Ensure nothing obstructs the required airflow openings in front of the cabinet. Brush or vacuum lint and dirt from the front grille area at least once or twice a year.
CAUTION: SHOCK HAZARD: Disconnect electrical power before cleaning with soap and water.
Cabinet
Wash the painted cabinet with mild soap and water, rinse with clear water. NEVER use abrasive cleaners.
Cleaning
Routine cleaning of stainless steel surfaces extends product life by removing contaminants, especially in coastal areas. Periodically inspect and clean crevices, weld points, under gaskets, rivets, bolt heads, and areas where liquid could collect. Replace any mounting hardware showing signs of corrosion.
Interior
Wash the interior compartment with mild soap and water. Do NOT use abrasive cleaners, solvents, polish cleaners, undiluted detergent, or chlorine-based cleaners.
Care of Appliance
- Avoid leaning on the door, as this may bend hinges or tip the appliance.
- Exercise caution when sweeping, vacuuming, or mopping near the front of the appliance to avoid damaging the grille.
- Periodically clean the interior as needed.
- Periodically check and/or clean the front grille as needed.
In the Event of a Power Failure
If a power failure occurs, correct it as soon as possible. Minimize door openings to maintain the appliance's temperature.
