AVOID THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK
Risk of electric shock
- Connect only to a GFCI-protected, grounded source.
- Do not bury the power cord. Burying the power cord presents a risk of electrocution or serious injury if a cord specifically designed for burial is not used or if burial is not done correctly.
- A grounding connection (cord connector) is provided on the control box inside the unit. This allows for the connection, in accordance with local requirements, of a solid copper wire of at least 10 AWG (6 mm²) to be run between this unit and any metal object (water pipe, electrical equipment housing, or conduit) within 5 feet (1.5 m) of the spa.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, change damaged cords immediately. Failure to do so may result in fatal injury or serious injury from electric shock.
Your 115-volt cold plunge is equipped with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) for user and equipment protection. To ensure the proper functioning of this important safety device, test as follows according to the electrical configuration.
115 VOLTS, CORD CONNECTION
- The GFCI is located at the end of the power cord. Before each use and while the spa is operating, press the TEST button. The unit should stop operating, and the GFCI power indicator light should turn off.
Wait 30 seconds, then reset the GFCI by pressing the Reset button. The GFCI power indicator light will illuminate, restoring power to the cold plunge. If the interrupter does not function in this manner, it may indicate an electrical malfunction and the possibility of electric shock. Unplug until the problem is corrected.
DANGER: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK
The cold plunge must be installed at least 5 feet (1.5 m) from all metal surfaces. It is possible to install the cold plunge less than 5 feet (1.5 m) from a metal surface provided that each metal surface is permanently connected by a solid copper No. 10 AWG (6 mm²) ground wire, connected to the grounding connector of the junction box, provided for this purpose, as long as compliance with the national electrical code is respected.
Do not place any electrical appliances, such as a lamp, telephone, radio, or television, within 5 feet (1.5 m) of the cold plunge. Failure to observe the safety distance carries a risk of fatal injury or may cause serious injury from electric shock if an electrical appliance falls into the cold plunge.
Install your cold plunge so that the drain outlets are a safe distance from the electrical box and all electrical components.
WHAT TO DO:
- Ensure that the cold plunge is properly connected to the mains supply – call a qualified electrician.
- Disconnect the cold plunge from the electrical supply before draining or performing maintenance or repair on electrical components.
- Test the GFCI(s) before each use.
WHAT NOT TO DO:
- Do not use the cold plunge when the technical compartment door is removed.
- Place electrical appliances within 5 feet (1.5 m) of the cold plunge.
- Use an extension cord to connect the cold plunge to its power supply. The extension cord may not have proper grounding, and the connection may present a risk of electric shock. Extension cords can cause voltage drops, thus overheating the jet pump motor and damaging the motor.

INSTALLATION
PLANNING A LOCATION FOR YOUR COLD PLUNGE
Consider these factors when determining where to place your cold plunge.
SAFETY PRIORITY
Ensure that your cold plunge is positioned so that access to the left technical compartment and the rear panel is not blocked. Ensure that your installation complies with all local and municipal safety codes and requirements.
INTENDED USE OF THE COLD PLUNGE:
The intended use of your cold plunge will help you determine where to position it. For example, will you use it more for recreation or therapy? If your cold plunge is primarily for family recreation, allow ample space for activities and garden furniture. If you will use it more for relaxation and therapy, you will likely want to create a private space around the cold plunge.
DISCRETION:
Consider your surroundings in all seasons to determine the best options for discretion. Consider your neighbors' views when planning the location of your cold plunge.
VIEWS:
Consider the direction you will be facing when sitting in your cold plunge. Is there a particular view you would like to observe? It could be a spot where a gentle breeze is present during the day or offers a beautiful sunset in the evening.
ENVIRONMENT:
If you live in a climate with harsh winters and hot summers, it is convenient to have a changing area or house entrance near the cold plunge. A warmer climate may require shade to protect from the sun. Consider planting trees, shrubs, a patio cover, or perhaps a gazebo structure to suit your needs. Indoor installations require adequate ventilation. When the cold plunge is in use, small amounts of moisture may also be produced. This moisture can damage walls and ceilings over time. Special paint is available to resist moisture damage. Remember that the cold plunge needs to be drained periodically, so plan your environment accordingly. The 1/4" (0.64 cm) heat pump drain hose will need to be routed away from the cold plunge.
MAINTAINING CLEANLINESS:
Prevent dirt and leaves from entering your cold plunge by using concrete for paths and access areas. Check the location of drainage paths from gutters, trees, and shrubs.
ACCESS TO SERVICES:
Many people choose to install custom tile or wood around their cold plunge. If you are installing your cold plunge with custom decorative trim, remember to allow for service access. In case of service, a technician may need to remove the cold plunge's access panels. It is always preferable to design custom installations so that the cold plunge can still be moved or lifted off the ground.
A SOLID BASE:
Your new cold plunge needs a good, solid base. The area where your cold plunge is located must be able to support it, as well as the water it contains and the people using it. If the base is inadequate, it may shift or sink after the cold plunge is placed, causing stress on the shell or components. It is recommended to place the cold plunge on a 4-inch (10 cm) concrete slab with steel reinforcing bars throughout the slab. NOTE: Do not shim the cold plunge in any way, as this could deform the cabinet, voiding the warranty.
BE VIGILANT:
Damage caused by an inadequate or incorrect base is not covered by the warranty. It is the sole responsibility of the cold plunge owner to provide an adequate base for the cold plunge.
Ensure that the base on which the cold plunge is placed drains water away from the cold plunge. Adequate drainage will keep the components dry in case of rain or humid weather. The weight of your cold plunge must always be considered during installation. If you are installing it on a raised wooden deck or other structure, it is advisable to consult a civil engineer or contractor to ensure the structure will support the weight.
IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT A QUALIFIED AND LICENSED CONTRACTOR PREPARE THE BASE FOR YOUR COLD PLUNGE.
- It is recommended to use a reinforced concrete slab at least 4 inches (10 cm) thick for your cold plunge. The reinforcing bar or mesh of the slab must be secured to a connecting wire.
INDOOR INSTALLATION:
If you plan to install your cold plunge indoors, never forget certain elements. A floor drain is strongly recommended.
- Water should be drained through the drain located at the bottom left when draining the cold plunge (a garden hose is required to drain the cold plunge, as well as a place to drain the water).
- A 1/4" (6.4 mm) drain hose from the collection basin, 12 feet (3.7 m) long, is coiled and located inside the technical compartment. Remove this drain hose (place it in the cutout) and route it to a drain or other type of collection unit outside the cold plunge if it is installed indoors. NOTE: Several gallons of water may exit this hose each day. The external collection basin should not be higher than the basin that holds the heat pump.
Water will also accumulate around the cold plunge, potentially causing you to slip. NOTE: It is essential to ensure proper water drainage to prevent it from flowing onto the floor and under the cold plunge unit. If you are building a new room to install your cold plunge, plan for a floor drainage system. It is best to ensure good ventilation in the cold plunge area. An architect can help you determine your ventilation needs.
VENTILATION:
The cold plunge unit has two ventilation openings (see below). The rear panel must be at least 24" (61 cm) away from any wall or obstruction preventing airflow from the cold plunge (72" [183 cm] is recommended for optimal performance). The side ventilation panel draws air into the cold plunge and is also the main entry into the technical compartment. Allow sufficient space (30" [61 cm]) for someone to open it and work inside if necessary.
NOTE: The rear panel, once removed, provides access to and allows for the removal of the heat pump (if necessary) for maintenance.
IMPORTANT: DUE TO SHIPPING ORIENTATION, WAIT 24 HOURS BEFORE FILLING AND STARTING YOUR COLD PLUNGE ONCE IT IS IN PLACE FOR INITIAL START-UP!

- Determine the distance of the power cord needed between the power outlet and the cold plunge. DO NOT PLUG IN THE COLD PLUNGE UNTIL IT HAS BEEN FILLED WITH WATER!
- Place the power cord inside the cutout.
- Return any excess cord to the technical compartment.
POSITIONING THE DRAIN HOSE
With the technical compartment open:
- A 1/4" (6.4 mm) drain hose from the collection basin, 12 feet (3.7 m) long, is coiled and located inside the technical compartment. This hose is attached to the collection basin located under the large heat pump.
- Place this drain hose (in the cutout, like the power cord) and route it to a drain or other type of collection unit outside the cold plunge if it is installed indoors. NOTE: Several gallons of water may exit this hose each day. The external collection basin should not be higher than the basin that holds the heat pump.
- Place it in your desired location outside the cold plunge if the installation is outdoors (use the cutout). This drain hose can also be cut if it is too long.
The following procedures must be followed for initial commissioning and each time the cold plunge is drained for routine maintenance.
FILLING THE COLD PLUNGE WITH WATER
- Remove any debris from your cold plunge.
- Ensure the drain valve is closed and the drain plug is securely fastened and tightened.
- Remove the filter cover.
- Insert a garden hose into the filter compartment to fill your cold plunge.
- IMPORTANT: Do not use hot or softened water. If the ambient temperature is above 100°F (38°C), the cold plunge's heat pump may not be able to start cooling the water when power is applied until the ambient temperature drops below 100°F (38°C). NOTE: Direct sunlight can also heat the inside of the technical compartment, making it hotter than the ambient outside temperature.
- Under normal circumstances, the water level should remain just above the upper equalizer fitting of the cold plunge.
If you do not maintain sufficient water in your cold plunge, you risk damaging your system and voiding your warranty. If your cold plunge filter is drawing air, causing pump cavitation, you must add water!

CHEMICAL ADDITIVES FOR START-UP
WATER CHEMISTRY GUIDELINES
Ultimately, the cold plunge owner is responsible for the water chemistry of the cold plunge. Improper water chemistry can lead to costly repairs that are not covered by the cold plunge warranty. If in doubt about any of the steps below, please contact your local dealer.
First, it is advisable to identify the minerals (e.g., iron) present in your local water source. This will help you understand how to treat the water. Follow the four steps below and ensure you achieve the correct levels for each category before moving to the next step. ADD all chemicals to the filter compartment.
STEP 1: MEASURING TOTAL ALKALINITY:
Total alkalinity is the amount of bicarbonate, carbonate, and hydroxide present in the cold plunge water. Good total alkalinity is important for pH control. If the TA value is too high, pH is difficult to adjust. If it is too low, it will be difficult to maintain the pH at the correct level. The ideal range is between 40 and 120 parts per million (PPM). Reduce total alkalinity using an alkalinity reducer (sodium bisulfate). Increase TA by adding an alkalinity booster (sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate). These products should be added in small quantities, 5 ml at a time. After adding 5 ml, wait half an hour before measuring again. Once the total alkalinity safety range is established, proceed to the next step.
STEP 2: ESTABLISHING AN ADEQUATE PH LEVEL:
The recommended pH range is between 7.2 and 7.8. Above 7.8, the water is too alkaline and can become cloudy, while scale may form on the shell and heater. To lower the pH, use a pH reducer/pH Down (sodium bisulfate). When the pH is below 7.0 (considered neutral), the cold plunge water is too acidic and may damage the heater system. To increase the pH, use a pH booster/pH Up (sodium hydrogen carbonate). Any increase or decrease in pH should be added one teaspoon at a time, waiting half an hour between application and the new measurement.
STEP 3: DETERMINING CALCIUM HARDNESS:
It is important to adjust the calcium measurement to be between 75 and 150 PPM. If the measurement requires adjustment, correct this level now. If the water is too soft (low value), increase the calcium hardness to increase the PPM measurement. If the water is too hard (high value), it can be corrected by: (A) adding a mixture of hard water and soft water to achieve a value within the safety range, or (B) adding an anti-scale product such as Stain and Scale Control. If the calcium hardness of your local source water is a problem (too hard or too soft), it is essential to have a test kit to measure calcium hardness.
STEP 4: DISINFECTION:
Once steps 1 through 3 are completed, the cold plunge must be disinfected using chlorine (sodium dichloride). Add 2 teaspoons of chlorine, and increase as necessary to reach a level of 3 to 5 ppm. Check and maintain this level weekly, as well as before and after using the cold plunge.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is strongly recommended to use granular sodium dichloride to sanitize cold plunge water, but granular bromine can also be used. Never use tablet disinfectants, even with a floater. As with any other chemical, the disinfectant should be introduced into the cold plunge's filter compartment.
COLD PLUNGE MAINTENANCE
FILTER CARTRIDGE MAINTENANCE
Monthly, the filter cartridge should be cleaned to remove objects and particles that have lodged in the cartridge pleats. Using a garden hose with a spray nozzle, spray water from the inside out through the pleats to expel any trapped particles.
NOTE: Never operate your cold plunge without the filter cartridge!!! This will void your warranty.
NOTE: Filter cartridges should be replaced every six to eight months, or sooner if necessary. Dirty filters can cause wear on your cold plunge's pump and void your warranty.
REMOVING AND CLEANING THE FILTER CARTRIDGE
The cold plunge uses a screw-in filter cartridge that removes easily.
- Turn off the cold plunge's power (unplug the cold plunge).
- Remove the filter cover, Figure 1.
- Unscrew the filter cartridge counterclockwise and remove it from the cold plunge (requires many turns), Figure 2.
- Rinse the cartridge using a garden hose. Rotate the filter pleats, and separate them as you spray them with water to remove all debris and dirt. Let the filter dry, then check for any calcium deposits (scale) or oil film. If you find any, clean the filter cartridge with a cold plunge filter cleaning solution to loosen and remove deposits and oils. (To extend the life of the filter, soak it regularly).
CAUTION! Always use appropriate eye protection when using cleaning chemicals or high-pressure water. Read the cleaning product instructions and follow the safety instructions and warnings on the label.
CAUTION! Never scrub the filter cartridge with a brush, as this will wear out and disintegrate the filter. Never operate the pump of the cold plunge without the filter cartridge in the skimmer compartment. Using the cold plunge without the filter cartridge can allow debris to enter the cold plunge's plumbing and void the warranty!
- Replace the filter cartridge (insert and turn clockwise to lock in place). DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!
- Reconnect the cold plunge to power it back on.

SURFACE MAINTENANCE
Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners to clean the cold plunge. Generally, a mild detergent and water are sufficient to resolve cleaning issues.
COVER MAINTENANCE
The cover is made of a dyed polyester fabric and is a durable, aesthetically pleasing foam insulation product. Monthly cleaning is recommended to preserve its beauty and extend the material's life.
To clean the polyester cover and maintain it:
- Remove it and place it gently against a wall or fence.
- Rinse the cover with a garden hose to rinse off and loosen dirt.
- Add four tablespoons of mild soap or dish soap to 1 gallon (4 liters) of warm water. Clean with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and air dry.
IMPORTANT: Do not let soap dry on the polyester before rinsing.
- Wipe the perimeter of the cover and the side flaps. Rinse with cold water.
- Rinse the underside of the cover with water only (do not use soap), and wipe with a dry cloth.
CABINET MAINTENANCE
Little maintenance is required to keep your cold plunge's cabinet in good condition.
- The cold plunge cabinet should be cleaned as needed to remove dirt and debris.
- NO abrasive or aggressive chemical products should be used on the cold plunge cabinet.
- NO solvent or cleaner containing aromatic solvents should be used on the cold plunge cabinet.
- Warm, clean water is the best choice for cleaning the cold plunge cabinet.
REPLACING THE COLD PLUNGE LED
- Turn off the cold plunge's power (unplug).
- Remove the rear panel (see page 7).
- Locate the cold plunge lighting.
- Peel off the craft paper from the bottom right to expose the lighting.
- To remove the LED housing and board, turn the outer housing 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove it.
- Pull and remove the LED board from the socket.
- Replace by reversing the steps above.

UV MAINTENANCE
The ultraviolet system must be maintained to keep the water clean. The following maintenance program is recommended:
- Replacement of the UV-C lamp (20) every twelve months. This operation is relatively simple and can be performed by the cold plunge owner or by your dealer if you do not wish to perform the replacement yourself.
- Cleaning the quartz tube is necessary when your UV system is not functioning correctly. Contact your dealer for quartz tube cleaning. NOTE: UV-C lamp replacement can be done at the same time. Cleaning the quartz tube (6) requires draining the cold plunge.
REPLACING THE UV-C LAMP
a. Unplug the cold plunge.
WARNING: Ensure the UV-C lamp (20) has cooled before removing it. Wear latex gloves when installing a new lamp to prevent oils from your skin from damaging it.
DANGER: Never look directly at the UV-C lamp (20) when it is on, as it can cause serious eye damage or blindness.
b. Remove the technical compartment door.
c. Remove the housing cover (14) by removing the 4 screws (15).
d. Disconnect the UV-C lamp connector (17) from the ballast connector (16).
e. Slowly remove the housing cover (18) and the UV-C lamp (20) from the quartz tube (6).
Replace with the new UV-C lamp as follows:
- Insert the new UV-C lamp (20) into the quartz tube (6). Install the housing cover (18) onto the compression nut (11).
- Reconnect the UV-C lamp connector (17) to the ballast connector (16). Ensure that the connector is fully seated. Do not force it.
- Reinstall the housing cover (14) with the gasket (13 below) and secure it with the screws (15).
- Replace the technical compartment door.
- Plug the cold plunge back into the power outlet.
WARNING: The UV-C lamp used in this appliance contains mercury. Used UV-C lamps must be disposed of in accordance with applicable legislation. See lamprecycle.org.

DRAINING OR WINTERIZING
DRAINING YOUR COLD PLUNGE
Every three to six months, depending on water condition, you should change the water.
ATTENTION: READ THIS BEFORE DRAINING YOUR COLD PLUNGE!
- To avoid damaging the cold plunge components, UNPLUG THE GFCI CORD OR TURN OFF THE BREAKER AT THE SECONDARY ELECTRICAL PANEL BEFORE DRAINING. Do not re-energize the unit until your cold plunge has been refilled with water.
- Certain precautions must be taken when draining your cold plunge. If it is extremely cold and the cold plunge is outdoors, the piping and equipment may freeze.
- Do not expose the cold plunge shell (interior surface) to direct sunlight.
- Unscrew the drain cover and remove it.
- Attach the nozzle to a garden hose and direct it to a suitable drainage area, keeping the hose below the water line.
- Open the valve to drain.
- When the cold plunge is empty, clean its shell and the filter cartridge. See the "Cold Plunge Maintenance" section.
- After cleaning, remove the garden hose, replace the drain plug, close the drain valve, and push the flap back into its housing.
- Follow the instructions in "Filling and Quick Start" on page 12.

WINTERIZING YOUR COLD PLUNGE
If you plan to store your cold plunge for the winter, you must also use a wet vacuum to clean the water lines to ensure they do not contain any water. Water left in the lines may freeze and damage the lines and the pump.
- Drain your cold plunge.
- All water must be removed from the internal plumbing.
- Remove the filter cartridge. Clean the filter cartridge and store it in a dry place. Attach the hose to the suction port of the wet vacuum and completely dry the filter pack.
- Using the wet vacuum, remove water from the drain opening. NOTE: When removing water from the drain opening, you may notice suction coming from the bottom of the filter bucket. With the help of a second person, block the suction from the filter fitting with a large cloth. This will allow the water trapped deep in the main line to be extracted.
- Thoroughly dry the cold plunge shell with a clean cloth.
- Using a funnel, pour propylene glycol antifreeze into the filter suction fitting and the drain. WARNING: Use only propylene glycol as antifreeze. This product is non-toxic. NEVER use automotive antifreeze, as these products are toxic.
IMPORTANT: Before using your cold plunge, be sure to dilute and remove all propylene glycol first.
- Replace the technical compartment door and secure it with the screws.
NOTE: Damage caused by improper winterization is not covered by the warranty. You can contact your local dealer to have your cold plunge winterized.
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
If the cold plunge is not functioning as it should, first review all the installation and operation instructions in this manual and check the message displayed on the panel. If you are still not satisfied with its proper functioning, follow the appropriate troubleshooting instructions.
ATTENTION! WARNING! RISK OF SHOCK! No user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to repair the control box. Contact your local dealer for assistance. Follow all electrical connection instructions in the owner's manual.
TRIPPING OF THE GFCI
The GFCI is a safety device designed to detect a ground fault as low as 5 milliamps (±1 mA). WATKINS WELLNESS recommends that the GFCI be tested before each use to ensure it is functioning correctly.
When the cold plunge is plugged into the electrical supply, press the "Test" button. The cold plunge should stop operating, and the GFCI power indicator light should turn off. Wait 30 seconds, then reset the GFCI by pressing the Reset button. The GFCI power indicator light will illuminate, restoring power to the cold plunge. If the interrupter does not function in this manner, this indicates an electrical malfunction and the possibility of electric shock. Unplug the receptacle until the fault has been identified and repaired.
IMPORTANT: You must wait at least 30 seconds before resetting the GFCI. Failure to do so may cause the power indicator light to blink. If this happens, repeat the GFCI test procedure.
Never use the GFCI to disconnect power to the spa (unplug it yourself). If the GFCI trips while the cold plunge is plugged in and a power outage occurs, the GFCI will automatically reset when power is restored, and the cold plunge will be re-energized.
COLD PLUNGE NOT HEATING OR COOLING
If you notice that the cold plunge is not heating or cooling while power is still available, check the following:
- Check the heat pump icon and circulation pump icon on the control panel.
- The heat pump icon flashes when the heat pump is running.
- If there is a 2° difference between the set temperature and the actual temperature, the heat pump should start.
- The circulation pump icon should be on and solid at all times.
2. Ensure that your set temperature is set to the desired temperature. Adjust as necessary.
3. If your cold plunge cover has remained closed for some time, the actual water temperature may differ from the set temperature. Place the cover on the cold plunge if it has been stopped for a while and allow some time for the actual water temperature to reach the set temperature.
4. If an error message is displayed on the screen, turn off the power for 5 minutes, then turn it back on. If the error message reappears, consult page 11, then contact your local dealer.
