WM 646819: Removing and Installing Rear Window Channel Seal

Step 1: Unclip Pin

Unclip the pin -1- from the mounting in the side panel.

Step 2: Remove Seal

Pull the window channel seal -1- up out of the guide.

Information

  • Before replacing seal, check the existing seal for signs of damage (tears, crushed areas, etc.). If there are signs of damage, the seal must be replaced.
  • The seal is pressed onto the flange without any additional sealant.
  • Check that the seal is seated exactly at the correct position.
  • Check gap and joint dimensions.

Installation

  1. Installation is performed in reverse order to removal.
  2. Engage the pin securely in the mounting.

Preliminary Work

Disconnect front three-point belt. See: Seat Belt > Removal and Replacement > 691119 Removing and Installing Front Three-Point Belt

  1. Pull off door seal at side trim panel.
  2. Unclip cover of three-point seat belt -1- by pulling it forward out of the clips -2-.

  1. Unscrew fastening screw -1- on the side trim panel -2-.

  1. Unscrew locking pins -1-.

  1. Unclip side trim panel -1- at the top and pull it forward [arrow] out of the guide.

  1. Disconnect electric plug connections -1-.

Installation

  1. Installation is performed in reverse order to removal.
  2. Fastening screw securing side trim panel to B-pillar Tightening torque 3 Nm (2 ftlb.) +/-0.2 Nm (+/-0.1 ftlb.)
  3. Locking pins for seat backrest Tightening torque 35 Nm (26 ftlb.) +1 Nm (+0.5 ftlb.) -2 Nm (-1.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent Work

Install front three-point belt. See: Seat Belt > Removal and Replacement > 691119 Removing and Installing Front Three-Point Belt

Safety instructions for seat-belt pretensioner unit

Removal

Information

  • After the seat-belt pretensioners have been triggered, they must be replaced. The fault can be read out using the PIWIS Tester 9718. Observe direction of travel.
  • If the seat-belt pretensioner has been triggered, cut through the belt strap before removing the seat-belt pretensioner. This ensures that the defective automatic belt device is not installed again.
  • Make sure that the negative terminal of the battery is disconnected.
  1. Seat belt mount on door sill.
    1. Clip on cap on screw head -1-.
    2. Unscrew fastening screw -2- and remove seat belt mount -3- and spacer sleeve -4-.

  1. Remove guide for belt strap.
    1. Unscrew fastening screw -1- and remove the guide by pulling it upwards [arrow].

  1. Unscrew fastening screw [arrow A].
    1. Remove seat-belt pretensioner by pulling it up.

  1. Release the lock on the electric connector -1- on the seat-belt pretensioner using a screwdriver.
    1. Pull off connector -2-.

  1. Release the locks on the electric connectors (USA) -1- on the seat-belt pretensioner using a screwdriver.
    1. Pull off connectors -2-.

Installation

Information

  • The seat-belt pretensioner may only be installed when the ground terminal of the vehicle battery is disconnected.
  • The vehicle battery may only be re-connected after the seat belt has been re-installed.
  • Ensure that belt strap can run properly!
  1. Guide the belt at the left of the door sill [arrow A] and turn the seat belt mount 180 degrees (clockwise) [arrow B].

  1. Tighten fastening screw.
  1. Guide the belt at the right of the door sill [arrow A] and turn the seat belt mount 180 degrees (anti-clockwise) [arrow B].

  1. Tighten fastening screw.
  1. Installation is performed in reverse order to removal.
  2. Fastening screw on door sill. Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)
  3. Fastening screw securing seat belt mount to B-pillar. Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)
  4. Fastening screw for belt retractor. Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)

Subsequent Work

  1. Install B-pillar trim panel See: Interior Moulding / Trim > Removal and Replacement > 707519 Removing and Installing Rear Side Trim Panel
  2. Connect the battery.
  3. Read out the fault memory using the PIWIS Tester 97180.

  1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- on the window lifter (power windows mechanism) -2-.
    1. Remove spacers.

  1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- from the convertible top support -2-. Pull front convertible top support up and unhook it.

  1. Unclip cover -1- and remove it by pulling it upwards.

  1. Loosen power windows mechanism.
    1. Remove cap -1-.
    2. Loosen fastening nut for power windows mechanism.

  1. Lift up front convertible top support with the help of another person and press it inwards.
  2. Lift up power windows mechanism complete with rear side window.
  3. Disconnect plug connection -1-.

  1. Remove power windows mechanism complete with rear side window by pulling it upwards.

Installation

Information

  • Installation is performed in reverse order to removal.
  • When installing the cover, make sure that the cover is fitted correctly in the guide.
  • The tilt angle of the side window can be adjusted at the upper fastening points using spacer plates (991.543.561.0X). S1 White, S2 Yellow, S3 Grey, S4 Green, S5 Blue, S6 Black
  1. Fastening nut for power windows mechanism at the bottom. Tightening torque 17 Nm
  2. Fastening screw for power windows mechanism at the top. Tightening torque 9.7 Nm
  3. Fastening screw for convertible top support. Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)

Subsequent Work

  1. Install belt retractor. See: Seat Belt > Removal and Replacement > 691119 Removing and Installing Front Three-Point Belt
  2. Install rear window channel seal. See: Rear Door Window Glass Weatherstrip > Removal and Replacement > 646819 Removing and Installing Rear Window Channel Seal
